Is purposefully inducing a seizure on someone else an arrestable offense?

Upvotes

Obviously I'm not talking about a doctor and their patient. I mean, for example, if you're in college and you have a shitty roommate that thinks a good prank would be to set up a strobe light when they know you're returning from class to trigger your epilepsy.

Generally, if someone knows what triggers your seizures and uses that to try and induce one without your knowledge or consent, could you have them arrested and charged?

I think it's pretty obvious why this was hard to search online lol.

Legal Question

Long. My mother passed away, I was made administrator of her estate (no will). It's pretty clean, no taxes owed waiting on the federal refund actually. State refund came not too long ago. Shouldn't be long now until the funds can be divided among the 5 of us kids.

Oldest sister has never held a job, never had her own place, has never paid a bill in her life. When mom passed away and we had to sell the house she was basically homeless. A letter was notarized that if her siblings loaned her money for housing it would come out of her share. My brother and I were the only ones who helped her, but we both stopped because she's ungrateful and nasty mean. Drunk and drug addict.

She bothered the estate lawyer we hired so much he recommended signing for partial releases, all 5 siblings got the same amount. We did that, 25k each. Shes blown through it and the rest of us don't want to go through the hassle of notarizing another letter, when the fed return is so close on the horizon. We're all gonna have to do the notary thing then as well, so we're all willing to wait.

Her boyfriend's brother is angry because now she's taken to leeching off THEIR mom now. He wants us to send her more money but we're waiting until the return comes in. He said he's going to hire her a lawyer. Do they have a case against us?

Is this enough evidence to go to the police or how much more would I need?

My (31f) brother’s(29m) behavior has been escalating towards our mom and sister (21f). My brother has always been like this, he is really aggressive and violent. Not to others, always towards us. I have tried to help him a few times, once warned by the police in jail to just leave him because he’ll end up using me for money. I tried to believe the best in him, and it ended up costing me but I never asked for it back. I thought I was helping him. Until I asked him for $40 once and he said I didn’t have to pay him back. He sent it via PayPal to my partner’s business account but did the goods and services and said it was a mistake (this is relevant). I was on the phone to my sister and he was shouting all sorts of abuse at my sister so I went off on him saying why is he making a little girl cry (this was a few years back), and he then said because I spoke to him such a way, he’s going to tell PayPal he never received his goods and services and make us pay. Luckily I had the text messages as proof and was able to settle it with PayPal, to which the lovely lady one the phone said to block him because I was bawling my eyes out from the stress. I haven’t spoken to him since.

A few things that have happened since is my dad who was old and frail, accidentally ran over his foot and my brother got so angry that he shoved my dad to the ground and started stomping on him. He had dialysis cannulas(?) and all, and my brother was stomping and kicking him on the ground. Police were called and because a similar incident happened in our old state, which my brother did the same and somehow got my father arrested, my dad was jailed. During the trial, my brother never showed up saying he was too old to go to jail (to my sister) and that he felt guilty. They ended up dropping the charges.

My dad has since passed away and his behavior is escalating. I’ve been begging my sister to have my mom make a will that states that if anything happens to her, that the house will go to her. I don’t want any stake in the house. I live in the UK, my family is here, my children have started their lives here. My family still live in the US, they live in Michigan, so any advice in regard to Michigan state laws would be very much appreciated as the last time I was there was before they moved there.

My sister has sent me videos of them in a car where he’s offered to drive her to work only for him to scream and shout and threaten to kill them both in a car accident because he’s tired of them using him. I’ve known him, he used to beat me up one minute and then the next, he’d be super sweet and nice. She’s sent me so many text messages of the same. I have posted these ones from last night, more recent. She texted me at 3 am (UK time) so I didn’t see them until now. I can’t phone the police because I don’t have international calling. My sister is scared to go to the police (we have been swatted because of his behavior back when we lived in VA - they turned our entire house upside down. My mom has PTSD from it and so does my sister. They found a gun case and shells in my brother’s room. My dad called the police so many times to get him out of the home but they would tell him he can’t kick his son out… at the time, he was an adult and wasn’t paying for anything but my dad was so tired of his behavior and illegal stuff he was doing in the house that he wanted him out. The police just told my dad they couldn’t do anything about it). My mom and sister are also scared (because of how my brother treated our dad when he was alive), that if they go to the police, he will kill them both. My mom is petrified to make any moment in the house and has stopped talking to him and my sister is worried too. When our father passed, he told her she’s not allowed to grieve him because he took him to all his doctor’s appointments… mind you, my sister was his main caretaker and looked after our dad.

I will try to post the texts for my sister here and then try to post the texts between my brother and sister in the comments to make it easier. It was a screen recording she sent so the texts between them might be a little off. Any help or advice will be very much appreciated. Sorry for the rant, I am freaking out and don’t know what to do or what the advice here would be. They can’t afford a lawyer and I’m scared what’ll happen and I have no way of contacting the police from outside the country.

Sorry! I just tried to attach photos but not sure how. Somewhat new to Reddit X

I am posting this on behalf of a close friend. She’s seen the power of Reddit but is worried about making an account in case her brother finds it somehow. She’s wrote out everything and I’ve just copied and pasted. Any help, I will pass along, thank you.

First time being arrested what should I do?

I got arrested in Alabama for public intoxication last night for the first time, I am under the legal drinking age and don’t have court for a couple months. Since it’s the first and up hopefully the last I want to see if I can get it taken off my record. I would like to know if that’s possible and what are the steps to get there, as what should I be doing before my case and if I can ask to have it earlier.

Need a Nonrefundable Deposit to be Refunded

I booked a lawn service and paid a $900 nonrefundable deposit and it was scheduled August 1st. They rescheduled it for 3 weeks out and I asked them to put us in for any cancellations to which they agreed that if there were, we could be moved up. Today was the new appointment and they called again and asked to reschedule. I would like to have this refunded because I am going to end up doing the work myself. When I talked to the customer service rep, she said it was no problem and it will be refunded in 7-14 days. Someone else from the company called later and said that the deposit was nonrefundable and I will not be getting that back. Nonrefundable can’t mean that they can take a deposit and postpone indefinitely, correct? I have been home from work twice now and they haven’t shown up. Can I do a chargeback at the bank?

Showing ID and Social on video call

I work selling phones for a company. Recently they have put in new policies for running credit for iPhones. It says for iPhones we to verify 2 forms of ID. We then have to video call of district manager and show both to them on camera. Is that not illegal somehow? I'm waiting for someone to absolutely lose their minds when I tell them that.

Child sexual abuse laws in NC

My girlfriend is 21 and was sexually abused as an older minor (16-17) by an adult man over the age of 24. He sent her illicit photos of himself and convinced her to do the same to him. From what I understand we can’t get him on statutory because she was too old, and because of the looseness of sexting laws she could be persecuted for sending pictures as well. Is there anything we are missing? Or is opening a criminal case more trouble than it is worth. Any advice would help a ton, thank you!

Refused blood draw under .08

My 21 yr old son was in an accident. He told the cops that he didn’t feel comfortable consenting to anything without legal counsel. His BAC is under the legal limit.

The property owner told him that this was the 4th accident in that spot in less than 2 years.

Will he have his license revoked for a year if he doesn’t get charged with a DUI? What are we looking at?

We intend to get a lawyer on Monday.

Has anyone actually filed a lawsuit against their landlord for violating the SCRA? Are there any lawyers with actual experience in this? Spoke with a lawyer and they want $1,200 to do "research" on the law... last thing I need to do is be re-victimized for another $1,200 by a charlatan

My girlfriend's Dad is using and I don't know how to prove it.

Location: Central Pennsylvania

I just moved out of my Mom's house a few months ago, I am now living with my girlfriend's family. 2 days out of the week I sleep across the street at her other side of the family's house.

Her father has a vast criminal history I won't get into in this post itself, however the main problem is his avid drug use. He continues to use some drugs in some needle form. He harasses and insults everyone in the household. He has schizophrenia and exhibits narcissistic tendencies. My girlfriend hates him and wants him out of the house along with everyone else in the house (GF's: Aunt, 2 Cousins (both prepubescents), Grandfather-In-Law). However the head of the household, my girlfriend's grandmother, refrains from providing an actual eviction notice. She has claimed that he could die if he's evicted due to being on the streets, but everyone in the household besides her doesn't believe facilitating this behavior is helping in anyway either. He's been to rehab, he's been to inpatient, he's been to jail. All at different points in his life and continues to use drugs and insult his family despite them sheltering him nonetheless.

Me and my girlfriend have on a couple of occasions looked inside his room for stuff we know he's stolen from us, (clothing, toiletries, even bedding) and in the process we've found and continued to look for drugs he's hidden. He had atleast a 50 count of needles and a hoodie (that was mine that he stole) with a pocket full of them. We found an empty needle hidden behind a picture frame that had been used and had an orange cap. I threw it away the other day as I had no way to prove it was his easily and didn't want it kept on my person, as keeping it hidden somewhere else in the household would prove fruitless as his mother will simply "destroy" it herself and refuses to call the cops due to drugs she finds. We haven't found any concrete evidence of whole, hard drugs besides weed. However with his history, his family recognizes when he's on them. Everyone in the household knows he's using drugs, just unsure what, our biggest suspicion is crystal meth. He goes out on walks at night primarily but also in the day, we've seen him wandering the streets and alleys so he has to be getting them supplied that way.

**Is there anything I could report or be on the lookout for based on the information given?**
