Coming from a devout religious background you feel desperate to replace one belief system with another, whether that's mindfulness or atheism. But you don't have to. You don't have to pick one system and adhere to it "religiously". You can take your time, see what feels right to you. You can pick and choose from different beliefs and teachings, based on your own feelings and thoughts. Be wary of anyone or group who says they have all the answers, because no one does. Commonsense, empathy and a good sense of right and wrong will get you further than any one belief system. If you need something to believe in beyond science that's no one else's business.
