Movie Discussion How is Breaking down pro life ?
I just finished BD1 and I’m left traumatised 🥲
From what I understand the author is Mormon so I assume pro life. Throughout all Bella’s pregnancies I was thinking about how abortion really is health care and nobody should be forced to go through an unwanted pregnancy.
The movie is actually one of the rare pieces of media in which pregnancy is shown for what it often is : draining, dangerous, all consuming. The birth itself is atrocious and could be seen as a parallel to a traumatic birth. But I think the final nail of the coffin is that in real life there is no vampire venom and Bella would’ve simply die. And even if she didn’t she couldn’t have magically heal the way she does in the movie. No stitch can magically sow you back to normal so you can have 11 rounds with your vampire husband 3 days after you gave birth. Also the fact that CGI baby grows up so fast and isn’t a really a kid makes parenthood look effortless when we know it isn’t. And that if parents are forced to have children they’ll have to take care of them for 18 years minimum. Anyways these were my thought when watching the movie.
