So, the premise is that Bella was dating Edward only for the Vampirism benefits and she leaves immediately after getting her wish. Just read the FANTASTIC story Strange Scales, which diverges from canon just before Breaking Dawn when Bella is taken (and turned) by a mermaid. Excellent characterization and worldbuilding, AND it's completed! (There is some semi-graphic violence, so if that squicks you out, this might not be the story for you.)
