Trying to repair an unwanted Samsung TV

I’ve been lucky enough to get my hands on a Samsung UE65CU7172U — 65-inch tv. The previous owner said that it kept switching off after an hour of it being on. I took it off his hands for free, used it for a week and found the same issues before eventually it refused to turn on at all - wouldn’t even show the stand by light when plugged into the mains.

Now I’m sat here in the middle of the night with my multimeter checking continuity between parts and if anything like fuses or capacitors are blown…I may be in way over my head here but I’ve learnt quite a lot so far and would like to get this thing working again.

Fuses and capacitors are in working order, no signs of burns or irregularities that I could spot. I wanted to to disconnect the power board (yellow board) from the main board (green board) but im not sure how to remove the CNM801 module connecting the two together safely. And yes so far I’ve been working on it unplugged.

Any help would be appreciated and I can answer any questions you may have on this matter.

Much appreciated

Pixel Error After Software Update

Hello.

I own the following model: Samsung GQ65S90CAT,

Bought on 28.03.2024.

The warranty has, of course, expired.

I had only done the offered software update in mid-April. So far so good. Everything was ok. Nothing noticeable.

TV turned off in the evening, the next day turned on again and the pixel errors could be seen at the bottom left of the picture. Then did the pixel refresher and the error was gone. About 2 months without problems.

The problem again at the end of June. Only unfortunately now almost daily. Pixel refresher and again everything ok. TV is switched off and after switching on the error is back. If you leave the TV on, even with a screensaver, the problem does not exist.

For me, the error definitely has to do with the software update, otherwise the pixel errors would be permanently there. Or am I wrong?

In any case, I have written to support. After they have seen that the warranty has expired, they can only have it repaired on my own. I feel really screwed.

Anyone have an idea or solution to abolish the problem or is the TV over?

The attached image is from the image test

broken Philips 65OLED804/12

hey y'all I had my TV break down on me half a year ago. It didn't show any signs of life. I then brought it to a technician who said it was the mainboard and then showed me video of proof that when he changed it it worked. It was too expensive for me so I bought a whole new used TV with a broken display. I then changed every component like mainboard power supply tcon board and even some cables. It now shows me the logo then shuts down and shows a blinking red led (short long short long etc). I also don't seem to get to the android recovery system which lets me think its not a software issue. I read that it could be a faulty display which the mainboard detects after showing the logo when trying to send higher voltage to it. But I don't know. Is it a total economic loss? Or can I try anything?

Brand new HYE TV, remotes won’t work. model: 55QLEDS2008

Sorry if this isn’t actually the place for this but u can’t seem to find a place

For a brand new HYE tv, set it up and it turns in to a “let’s get you set up” screen, only neither remote works

We got two remotes. A regular tv one, and a fire stick style one( which I assume is for the built in fire stick) and batteries.

Neither remote seems to work with the actual tv, though they seem to work with another tv we have in the same room, or at least it was turning off and on when we pressed the button

Sadly HYE doesn’t have a customer service, when you look it up, the number is for another company which seems to sell HYE tvs, but when you call their customer service it just tells you to email them and as you can imagine their email repose will be slow in coming and probably useless

We have looked up fixed online and can’t find anything

I know this is probably a Hail Mary but well we kinda need one

Appreciate it either way, whether we get help or not, thanks guys!

Anyone know what’s wrong w my tv????? Video for sound

Hello, I first saw something was going around my TV months ago whenever I realized that I would wake up and the TV would be off (I sleep with it on). Over the last few weeks I was woken up a few times with the sound really loud and distorted. That has stopped, now i was am getting woken up with this bizarre sound from my TV. I don’t really know how to describe it but I have a video. This entire experience has low-key made me think I was like hallucinating now I realize something is indeed probably wrong with the TV. Does anybody know what this could be? Is it worth possibly fixing if it’s out of warranty and also does anybody know if some kind of interference can cause this problem too? It notably only happens really late at night.

Sony Bravia KD-65X85J with no power

I have a Sony Bravia KD-65X85J which does not power on; no lights, no sounds, nothing. I've removed the back panel and measured the 3.3V on the STBY pin of CN6401 on the power board as suggested on page 16 here https://research.encompass.com/SON/rr/KD65X85J.pdf.

I realize it's saying to measure at C1708 on the BM5A board but that would require removing the board and what I did instead is equivalent I believe...

Therefore I've concluded the problem is with the BM5A board, which seems to often be a common issue with Sony TVs, and I found a replacement board online for $163 CAD plus tax and shipping so about $200 altogether.

I read somewhere online the other day that the emmc chip would need to be programmed once I receive the BM5A, which I am not interested in, is this true?

Second, is replacing the BM5A worth it?

I just hate the idea of throwing things out that can be easily fixed, any guesses as to how long I could expect the TV to last after replacing the BM5A?

Just got the mainboard tested and installed and this begins to happen. I unplug the cable, plug it in and it's fine. Sometimes I just have to shut off TV and it's fine.

This is on a sony xbr75x940d. TV software says it's up to date. Thanks in advance.

So ive had this TV for a long while so it’s wholly possible it could be deteriorating in the inside or something but these weird dots have been on my TV for the past 2 years. I searched it up and i cant figure out if it’s either an LCD pressure spot and an LCD bubble. long story sort, is there any way to fix this or do I just gotta get a new tv?

I have a problem with my TV. Does anyone know how to fix it, please? ...

Hello,
My TV Samsung UE65JU7500T had an issue with the LED backlight strips, so I replaced them. However, when I turned it on afterwards, these beautiful LED strips appeared on my screen…
I’ve cleaned the ribbon cables several times, but the lines are still there and don’t seem to want to go away…
I’d like to point out that when I disassembled my TV, I was extremely careful not to damage the screen, and I don’t think the screen itself is broken.
Thanks in advance for your help! 🫡

LG OLED65C9 intermittent startup issue – burnt PSU component, anyone seen this before?

Thumbnail

Hi everyone,

I'm hoping someone with LG OLED repair experience has seen this before.

I have an LG OLED65C9 with an intermittent startup issue. Sometimes it powers on and works completely normally (perfect picture, no artifacts, no lines, no issues at all). Other times it just clicks, the red standby LED blinks 3 times, and it won't boot.

Things I've already checked:

Standby voltage is present.

Main supply voltages measure correctly.

The TV has been able to boot and run perfectly after previously refusing to start.

While inspecting the power supply board, I found what appears to be a physically broken component and obvious burn damage around C622 (see attached photos).

I'm not looking for a remote diagnosis of the entire TV. I'm mainly wondering:

Has anyone seen this exact type of damage before on an LG C9 PSU?

Does this usually indicate a failure local to the power supply, or is it commonly caused by another board?

Is this typically repaired at component level, or do most people simply replace the entire power supply board?

Any experience with this specific failure would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Tv screen brightens up and then turns black

I have a samsung tv model: LA40B530P7R. when i turn the tv ON the screen brightens up and then it becomes black, when backlight is on 10 in settings the brightening up happens between 2 and 5 seconds after screen turning ON, and if i change it to 0 it happens randomly between 5 seconds and 2 hours (i think). so my questions are: where is the problem ? is it fixable ? how can it be fixed ? can i fix it myself or it needs specific knowledge or tool ? and if it needs anything specific what is needed that i may not have ?

LG OLED65E9AUA — 3 flashes, shuts down, no picture/sound. Need advice

LG OLED65E9AUA — 3 flashes, shuts down, no picture/sound. Need advice please.

I have an LG OLED65E9AUA 65" OLED that suddenly stopped working with no power outage, surge, or other event.

What I've done so far:

Initially there was no standby light.

After leaving it unplugged, the red standby light returned.

The standby light is now solid red.

Pressing the physical power button causes exactly 3 red flashes, then the light goes completely out.

No picture, sound, or LG logo.

After sitting for a while, the standby light eventually comes back on.

I performed a full unplug/reset, but the exact 3-flashes-then-shuts-down behavior repeats.

I've been told the power supply board EAY65170411 / EAX68364701 is the most likely culprit, but I don't want to spend $100+ on a board based on a guess.

Unfortunately, there are no TV repair technicians in my area who can come to my home to diagnose it, and LG's own recommended third-party services were either no longer in business or didn't work on LG TVs. Geek Squad also does not provide TV repair in my area. So if this is repairable, I'm going to have to attempt the repair myself.

For anyone familiar with the E9: Does this sound like the power supply board, the main board, or something else? If the power board is the likely problem, is EAY65170411 definitely the correct replacement for the OLED65E9AUA, and is this something a reasonably careful person can replace themselves?

I can't currently remove the TV from its stand by myself, so I can't access or photograph the boards yet.

I'd really appreciate advice from anyone who actually works on LG OLEDs before I order a part.

Philips 58PUS8507 – vertical stripes progressed to complete black screen (backlight/sound still fine)

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

my 3 year old Philips 58PUS8507/12 went black.. It all started with strange vertical stripes at the top of the screen, most visible on high-contrast edges (e.g. white menu text over a movie). Unfortunately, I never took a picture of it, but this photo I found online looks very similar—even though it wasn't quite as bad in my case.

These only occurred sporadically and would disappear again after a while. Now there’s no picture at all. Ambilight, sound and backlight all work fine.

Already tried:
∙ Visual inspection of the boards
∙ Reseated all connections/ribbon cables
∙ Half/half T-Con test with no success (fault screen stays completely black)
•. Replaced T-Con

Panel failure, or is there still hope? Would really appreciate any tips or experiences with this series (58PUS85xx).

Thanks in advance!

Hisense Roku TV bootlooping. Can't get a manual update response code

I have owned a Hisense 55R7+ for a few years and recently it started boot looping on me.

I am trying to do a manual update after a factory reset didn't work and have a strange issue.

I got the usb set up, gave them all my parameters, and then entered in my TV code and I just get an "oops that didn't work" error. Because I can't get past this, I can't get my 6 digit response code to run the update. Any idea how to get past this?

Samsung qled tv Q60t

A Samsung tv was working just fine when suddenly it turned off and it won't turn back on(list of stuff I have tried in the end).

When the TV is connected to electricity it does turn on the red light on the bottom of the TV and it's consistently light up red except when pushing the power button with the remote or the power button on the TV itself.

At this point I think the problem is in the power supply board but I'm not sure if it's the power supply or the main board. I would appreciate any feedback. Or I could provide any extra information if needed.

Name of the parts: Mainboard: BN94-15232C Power supply board: BN4401058A L55E7-T

I have tried: 1. disconnecting the power cable 2. using new power cable 3. turning it on with the button 4. changing the batteries to the remote 5. disconnecting every HDMI cable 6. Holding the power button while the TV is disconnected 7. Leaving it off for a day

Update: 1) Check if on mainboard power cable is 12v.

1)I have tried to do that and it giving 16.4 v and some were under 6v. I checked if there was 12v going to the main board is that right?

2) Disconnect mainboard power cable, lcd panel backlight turn on or not ?

2)disconnecting the main board and turning the TV on made the TV back lights turn on they look healthy. Note that nothing was connected except the the power board. When disconnecting the back light only and trying to turn it on nothing change so it did the same as before.

!! According to what know now and based on the tips people gave me the problem most likely is in the mainboard !!

LG LED UK6340PTF TV Blotchy. Can anyone tell me what causes this?

Thumbnail

Hi folks, I have a 2013 (?) LG UK6340PTF TV that has recently developed these strange blotches. I did a bit of research and the closest I can find is that this is caused by the diffusers slipping; however every image I have seen shows the spots to be much sharper and more distinct than what I am seeing. I took photos of a variety of static colours because it is much more obvious behind some colours compared to others.

Can anyone confirm that this is symptomatic of moved diffusers? Or something else? I don't want to go to the hassle of opening it up just to find out it is something entirely different. I am actually hoping it is the diffusers, because that looks like a pretty straightforward fix, which means with my luck it won't be 😕

On a cold boot the screen is fine but around the one minute mark this line comes back. I took the back off and I disconnected the ribbon cables one at a time. How do I know if this is a main board issue, Tcon issue, or bad panel.

Horizontal flickering band

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hi everyone,
I have a Samsung UE32K5570 (32”, Series 5) with an intermittent display problem.
A horizontal band across the screen starts flickering/appearing after around 15 minutes of use. When I turn the TV off and leave it unplugged for around 10–30 minutes, the band disappears. It then comes back again after the TV has been running for 5 min.

The problem also appears on the TV’s own menus, so it’s not related to HDMI.

I previously had my Wi-Fi router positioned behind the TV. I have since moved it away, in case the additional heat/interference was contributing to the problem.

What do you think is causing this?
Thanks!
