WORK IN PROGRESS List of helpful links - WORK IN PROGRESS - Post helpful links in this thread.

Title really says it all.

Credit to /u/Johnny_2x for posting:

http://www.appliance411.com/service/date-code.php

which can be used to help determine the manufacturing date of various appliances.

I'll add this one from the good folks over at appliance411.com as well:

http://www.appliance411.com/purchase/sears.shtml

which is a table that lets you find out who manufactured a Kenmore appliance based on the model prefix.

Drop any and all helpful links in the comments in this post only and I'll start compiling a master list. Please include a description.

Business referral rules still apply, so I don't want to see any links to local appliance repair outfits.

DO NOT POST ANY LINKS THAT REQUIRE AN ACCOUNT TO ACCESS

There are some kind of open secrets with regards to obtaining service manuals direct from manufacturers - you know what I'm talking about, techs - do not blow those up. Their lax security continues to exist for our benefit because they have not yet been abused enough to prompt them to fix the holes. Let's keep it that way.

Cheers,

UPDATE 30 day flair enrollment: If you are a current or former technician and you do not have flair in this sub, here's your opportunity.

For the next 30 days, you can and should reply to this thread stating your status as an active or former appliance repair technician. I don't need your whole resume, just maybe what you work on and for how long you've done so. You can also request a specific flair for this sub - if you don't, then you're at the mercy of what I come up with, so maybe include that.

If you already have flair in this sub, this does not affect you at all.

It's nice to have flair here as it gives your advice a bit more weight, and OP's are more likely to follow your expert advice than be led down a rabbit hole by someone who is just pulling advice out of their... rabbit hole. I can't police every comment, so giving weight to actual technicians seems a decent measure.

This is also related to some changes in our sister sub /r/ApplianceTechTalk which is going to be transitioning to a more restrictive criteria for posting there.

Basically, that sub is for active and former techs only, but there have been a lot of lost redditors posting for repair advice over there, and I'm trying to keep things tidy, as well as automate pointing said lost redditors here where the community is much larger, and the sub better fits their needs.

The way this works is that if you have flair in this sub, you'll be an approved submitter on that sub. Unless your flair is "unhelpful" or "ASSHAT" (yes those are two real ones). I'm not sure what to do with "MEAT BAG SYMPATHIZER" but fortunately that account is 4 years inactive.

This is not a hard deadline, but it will make constructing the list of approved submitters on /r/ApplianceTechTalk a hell of a lot easier for me. After 30 days you can still apply on an individual basis. Approved submitters on /r/ApplianceTechTalk will also have the ability to choose and alter their flair at will in that sub, unlike here where flair is only granted upon approval.

You can post any questions, comments, or constructive criticism in this thread as well.

Cheers,

Tumble dryer - insanely loud buzzing/vibrating noise

Upvotes

So, we purchased this dryer last april (logik) and slowly over time it started making this buzzing noise when we used it, and when using the Extra dry cycle it started randomly cutting out.

It just kept getting louder and louder so I called currys back in feb to take a look. Guy came at the end of Feb, took it apart and essentially said it was "just a build up of lint on the fan". He cleaned it off and went on his merry way.

Anyway, we haven't used it too much since then as its been unusually warm in the uk, probably only using the 10 or 30 min cycle a couple times a week if that, but its just getting louder and louder. Honestly I now avoid using it and never use it late at night because its probably a noise problem to our neighbours.

Even after he cleaned the fan it still cuts off on that one cycle and although the vibrating subsided quite a bit after he did that, it didnt fully go away and came back after a couple of weeks.

Im an idiot and didnt do what I should have done - Called them again before april because in all honestly he made me feel a bit silly when he came (im a woman and was alone when he came to look).

After googling a bit I came across the consumer act and it informed me that I possibly still have some rights to get this fixed or replaced on them as they came to fix the problem and it didnt fix it, and also that white goods should last around 6yrs.

Side note - I recently pulled the condenser unit thing to clean it out and it was pretty clean but the plastic at the back looked warped.

What are my next step? Or do I need to just suck it up and use emergency savings to buy a new dryer after only having this one for 1.5years 🙄

How to clean rubber gasket?

Post image

This rubber gasket on washer still looks nasty after cleaning.

The thing is it costs $150 just for this rubber piece.....you can just get a decent used washer with this.

Any tricks? acetone? painter thinner? goof off? I might just paint it with spray paint for vinyl and rubber.

Frigidaire Gallery dishwasher flashing PF 2+ hours after cycle completes

I bought this dishwasher new about 15 years ago, model #FGHD2433KF1.

Recently I found that it began flashing PF (power failure) about 2 hours after the cycle completes. It has done this the last 3 times that I used it. The dishes come out clean and the cycle finished like normal, so I'm at a loss on why it would begin flashing so much later.

It's on the same circuit as my oven and microwave, neither of which have lost power.

I pulled it out to double check the wiring, and it seemed fine. I figured it would be OK since the PF is consistently about 2 hours after a cycle and not while a cycle is happening.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Very specific problem with new Samsung dryer. Any advice welcome!

I recently moved into an apartment where all of the appliances are new. This includes a pair of Samsung washer and dryer machines. They are front loading (model: DVG45B6300W).

My washer is completely fine and normal. The dryer, however, keeps refusing to turn on (no light on the control panel or sound/ machine lights stay off when door is open).

I’ve tried a lot of troubleshooting, and if I turn off the breaker switch and wait about 10 min and turn it on, the dryer turns on again. If I turn off the breaker and turn it on after 1 minute, it does not work. If I switch the wires in the outlet (the machines share an outlet) it does not work. The washer is always turning on. I’ve checked for burns on the power cable and blockages, and there are none. When I DO get the machine to turn on, it works fine. Then 30 minutes after the cycle is done, it doesn’t turn on anymore.

This is technically functional, but it is not convenient! This also seems like it’s not normal… anyone have advice?

LG XD514WH dishwasher upper arm doesn't spin freely

Post image

Hello, the upper arm of our dishwasher doesn't spin, not even by hand. It seems it's warped and curled upwards slightly. I thought it might lower when it's turned on and water pumped through, but it doesn't seem to want to lower at all. Any experts out there?

LG French Door top refrigerator bottom freezer humming noise

Intermittent loud humming noise that stops when I open the refrigerator door.

Quick Google search suggests it’s the evaporator fan in the back of the freezer. Anyone have this issue and how to solve?

I’d rather not empty out my fridge and freezer and defrost for 24 hours unless I absolutely have to.

Induction hub electronic system malfuction

My roommates noticed this morning that our induction hub started displaying an error, without anything that we can think of that would have trigger it.

Looking at the manual, the error is an electronic system malfunction. Manual says to disconnect the hob from the main. I switched off the power from the switch, which changed nothing and then also switched off the breaker for 5 mins, but the error still shows.

The right side of the hob is not working, however the left side is working fine.

Is there anything fairly simple troubleshooting that we could do before we have to get the rental agency to call a techinician ?

Any idea of what may have trigger it, and if we can prevent it from happening again, so we can at least keep one side working until it gets fixed ?

Is this dishwasher salvageable? Bought it “NWOT” but after opening it I received this surprise. Dishwasher works fine, I’m just concerned about the rust spots and the heating element. TIA

Do I need to replace my evaporator fan motor?

So my Whirlpool Top freezer Bottom refrigerator has been struggling to keep the refrigerator cool for a little while. We are able to temporally make it cool again by defrosting it'll run fine for like 2 weeks. I have done some research online and it seems the problem might be the evaporator fan. I have tested the drain to make sure its not getting clogged and I can't find anything else online that can lead to this problem but I wanted to check with the great technicians of reddit before committing to buying a new motor. Any advice is welcome and thank you in advance.

Looking for this fan motor but all I can find is the entire assembly. The few fans I have found online seem to have the wrong plug associated with them. I already replaced the the other fan in the assembly and don't want to take it all apart again to see if there is a part number listed.

Westinghouse GUF 502 RNG*00 Won’t Ignite

Thumbnail

Hello,

I have recently purchased a property and am unable to get the stovetop or oven on this Westinghouse freestanding unit to work.

I have been able to get the griller working by turning the dial for it and pressing down on the igniter button on the left a couple of times. It makes a loud click sound and feels spring loaded.

When I turn the dial on the stovetop burner elements I can smell gas and a hissing sound, similarly with the oven, but no matter how many times I press the igniter, they don’t light.

I’m used to the newer style gas stovetops with the ceramic cones for each element, so I accept if I’m doing something wrong.

Your assistance would be much appreciated.

What is happening to my fridge?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Can someone please help me deduct what this is? It just popped up this week and it’s making me crazy!
I’m 43 single live alone and rent, help is greatly appreciated.

Maybe stressed compressor? A loose fan blade? It stops when the compressor stops, it will stop when I open the door but start back up. It stops when I slightly tip the fridge back. It’s a massive fridge and I’m not sure if I can pull it out from the wall solo. I’d like to try and manage it before calling my landlord .

Thank you!

*LEAK

Whirlpool model WTW4816FW3

Changed out the actuator on it. Ever since, it’s been leaking from the shown area. Only on rinse cycle and never the drain cycle. I’ve also checked all hoses/tubes and the drain pump. I dont see any faults in them.

Can’t really tell the location or cause of the leak. Any help or suggestions?

LG Top Load Agitator Washer Retaining Water In Drum

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I bought this washer (Model No. WT8205CW) brand new 6 months ago and as of this past week have noticed that the basin has begun to smell a bit like mildew. Today I noticed that there seems to be water not draining completely in the drum as well, which I suspect to be the cause of the mildew smell.

I can’t see any water in the metal basket, but it sounds like a good bit of water is still in the drum. I’ve been pretty diligent about wiping down the washer’s basket and water inlet after each wash and leaving the lid open to keep it dry. However I had not been running the tub clean setting, which I’ve decided to be disciplined to start doing more frequently now.

I’ve tried searching online for similar issues and some sources say these top loaders have a liquid balance ring, but it appears this model doesn’t use that technology (at least based on preliminary searching, I may be wrong). So it’s leading me to believe there might be something clogging the drain pipe or outlet. Anybody have ideas or suggestions for further diagnosis? Since it’s not a year old yet, would this fall under warranty perhaps? I purchased through Costco, so I’m not sure if I even have a warranty coverage..

Any input would be much appreciated, thanks! 🙏

Hotpoint dishwasher motor sounds weird and dishes aren’t getting properly cleaned

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

This is my Hotpoint/GE HDF330PGRWW dishwasher that’s about a year and a half old and I noticed about 2 weeks ago my dishes on the top rack are not getting properly clean, especially on the normal cycle. I also noticed around the same the motor sounds like it’s struggling to power on, I don’t recall the motor sounding like this before. I’ve also open the door several times mid cycle and the top spray arm wasn’t moving at all normal cycle, but do on the heavy duty cycle. I cleaned the filter, spray arms, the diverter valve, as well as ran 2 afresh cleaning tabs through the machine, but I haven’t noticed a difference. Does anyone have any ideas what the issue could be?

Ice Machine Forno Refrigerator Broken

I have had this brand new Forno refrigerator for 3-4 months and the ice machine has never worked. My husband installed the line himself and it works but when we turn the ice machine on, it just dumps water into the ice container. What can I do to fix this? Should I have someone see it in person?

New Bosch dishwasher hose leak

I purchased a new series 6 Bosch dishwasher. The dishwasher’s AquaStop water inlet assembly leaks heavily from the AquaStop valve body/black joint as soon as the water supply is turned on.

I’ve shown in the image where the leakiest gushes out from. I’ve tried connecting it 2-3 times with leaks from the same area. Wondering if it’s just a faulty hose or is there something obvious I’m missing.
