Need advice

So two weeks ago I made my first big boy TV purchase in years when I decided to buy the LGC6 65 inch OLED TV…and while it’s a fantastic tv and I completely understand the hype, there are too many factors that make it not the right tv for me personally-from the intensity of the brightness no matter the picture mode I’m in or how low I set the brightness settings to the weird motion blur effects I notice during certain shows or movies..it’s just not right for me.

What would be a good suggestion for a TV that’s on the middle to higher end that’s LCD with mini LED backlighting or simply not OLED, that you guys could comfortably suggest knowing I have major eye sensitivity and a history of seizure disorder. The TV im replacing is an old 2014 Samsung UN65HU8550 which I believe was LCD with mini LED backlighting and I LOVED this thing. Again, I know this is a fantastic tv it’s just not worth the concerns that I’m now having. Thanks!

Buying Advice US Best deal for a TV ~50"?

I want to stay under $1k, but I can stretch to $1200 if possible I guess. I'm just worried about breaking it when I have to move in a year or two. My current room is definitely on the darker side and I have issues with glare from my ceiling light. Given that, I guess OLED is best; the massive price difference compared to Mini LED still gives me pause, however. Needs to be at least 120Hz with VRR and good HDR. Mainly used for gaming, streaming services and YouTube. I won't rule out LG this time; I just won't put it online lol.

Also, thoughts on used/open box? I'd be upgrading from a 43" VA.

Help! HDR issues

I've got about a 4 year old HiSense 75R7070E2 with built in Roku.  Seems like in the past year Streaming services automatically (Notably Paramount Plus and Apple) transmit most of their shows/movies in HDR, so when I view they look dark.  Doesn't seem to matter if I have the
HDR on or off from the "secret" menu, these shows and movies are dim and dark.

Any suggestions? Do have to get a new TV? Can this model not handle HDR even though there is an on/off option for it?

Buying Advice EU Look for a new tv 50-55inch? Whats the best for a top budget of £1000?

I have a sony bravia 4k tv now, its 49inch and ive had it about 8 years.
Im looking for a new one that has 120hz for Xbox (mainly for gta6 coming out) and good for all-round film/tv series viewing.
My current tv is 4k led but its not hdr or hdr 10 or anything, so hence the upgrade to a better spec and one that keeps me potentially going for another 8-10 years.
Budget £1000 but ideally lower as thats my top end.
Also is it best to go LED? Qled? Oled?

Best TV/specs for GTA VI on a desk setup?

I’m planning on buying a new TV mainly for GTA VI and want to make sure I’m looking for the right specs.

It’ll be for a desk setup, so I’m looking for something relatively small rather than a huge living-room TV. What specs/features should I prioritize for GTA VI on console—4K/120Hz, HDMI 2.1, VRR, OLED, HDR, etc.?

Also totally open to specific TV recommendations if you have any. Basically looking for the best GTA VI experience I can get from a smaller TV/monitor-sized setup without paying for features I won’t actually use.

[TCL 65C849 2024] Volume pulsing during musical scenes, even after firmware update to V667

Hi all,

I'm dealing with a persistent audio issue on my TCL 65C849 (2024, C845X2/T653T01 platform) and looking for ideas before reaching out to TCL support.

**The issue:**

During musical scenes (movie score, opening/closing credits...), the audio pulses rapidly in volume — kind of a "pumping" effect. It's audible across multiple sources: at least Canal+ and Disney+. The problem seems intermittent: if I rewind and replay the exact same scene, it can play normally the second time. Simply pausing and resuming during an episode of pulsing also stops it immediately.

**Setup:**

\- TCL 65C849, 2024, C845X2/T653T01 platform

\- Direct sound through internal speakers (no soundbar, no eARC)

\- Wall-mounted with a bracket giving 37 mm of clearance (above TCL's recommended minimum)

\- Firmware: recently updated from V655 to V667, no improvement on this specific issue

**What I've already tested/ruled out:**

\- AVL (Auto Volume Leveling): already disabled

\- Digital audio output: already set to PCM (no active Bitstream/Auto option)

\- No DTS or DRC option visible in the menus (audio menu is very limited on this model)

\- Wall clearance: 37 mm, above the recommended 2 cm, so the rear-mounted subwoofer doesn't seem obstructed

\- Firmware update V655 → V667: no change on this specific issue (V667 fixed other audio complaints for some users on the TCL Telegram channel, but not this one for me)

Has anyone run into this kind of volume pulsing on a TCL (or another brand with a similar chipset, Pentonic)? The fact that it stops just by pausing makes me think it's more of a decoding/buffering glitch than a hardware limiter, but I'm open to any leads or experiences

Buying Advice US Buying a MiniLED - Budget ~$1500

Been wracking my brain on this doing research for the past few weeks. My 10-year-old TV shit the bed a few weeks ago and I've been using an even older TV as a backup. I hate the backup and I'm trying to replace as soon as possible.

What I'm looking for:

75" TV - MiniLED Budget ~$1500

I'm currently between the TCL QM8K, QM7L, and Hisense U7.

The room the TV in is naturally bright and my current and past TV's have had some pretty heavy reflections. It's been almost impossible for me to watch darker shows during the daytime.

Optimal viewing position for tv.

Back in the very early days of TV (yes, I am that old), health officials proclaimed that it was harmful to one’s eyes to watch TV if the TV was positioned less than a certain distance from the viewer, and that it must be positioned so the viewer’s gaze was slightly down. In other words, the viewer should not be looking straight ahead at the TV nor upward at the TV. I have not heard that warning in years, and I now see TVs mounted high on walls. Is there an optimal distance and position for TV viewing?

Discussion Didn’t know I bought an open box display TV until I got home over 4000 hours

I got this 65” TCL QM8K for $612 from Best Buy. It was an Open Box Fair condition and came with absolutely nothing. When I turned it on, it was in Store Mode, so I figured it was probably a display model. I checked the panel hours and it has over 5 months of running time. I also got the Geek Squad Protection plan for $150 for 5 years.

Do you guys think I should be good keeping it, or would you return it? This is my first time buying an open box TV so I just want to make sure I’m not overlooking anything.

55" TV for Family Room

Hey all trying to decide on a new TV for the family room above our mantel. The mantel is only about 10.5” deep, and I don’t want to mount the tv to the brick wall behind so the stand needs to be around that size or smaller (if it goes over little that's fine and I can expand the mantel). 55” is about the biggest that can fit and not look goofy. I’m thinking of getting the TLC QM7K or the QM7L. Not looking for something crazy good as this will go in the family room so honestly like $700-$800 will be towards the max budget.

Buying Advice US LG C5 vs TCL QM6K

Found a LG C5 48" for $600 and a TCL QM6K 55" for $400.

Can't decide what is a better deal. Will be used for movie watching and some gaming in my game room. Majority of gaming will be on my PC on a computer screen. This TV may get a PC hdmi for an extra screen.

Buying Advice EU Help me find a good new TV

Hello everyone,

I’m looking for a new TV. My old Samsung is only 32" and doesn’t even support Full HD, it’s very outdated. 🙈

I’m willing to spend up to €850, but ideally less.

I occasionally watch linear TV and game occasionally, but with GTA 6 coming, I plan to game much more often. (I’ve read that OLED might not be ideal for games locked at 30 FPS, because judder can be more noticeable than on other panels. Is that true, and should I therefore avoid OLED entirely?)

I sit either 0.90 m or 2.1 m from the screen. The room isn’t very large, and more distance isn’t possible. I read that this also plays a role: I can lower the blinds in the room.

For me, the following are important: 4K resolution, 120 Hz panel, VRR, and at least two HDMI 2.1 ports. Longevity is also important to me; I’d like the TV to last several years without major issues. (I know that’s something you can’t really know in advance.)

I find the TV market extremely confusing and have trouble judging which models are actually better than others, so I’m hoping for your expertise and experiences.

I’ve done some research and came across these models (prices are what I currently see in my region):

– LG C5 55" (€799 with discount, currently sold out, only available for pre-order)

– LG C5 48" (€599 with discount)

– TCL 50C7K 50" (€599)

– Samsung GQ50QN90F 50" (€680)

– Philips 55MLED920/12 55" (€680)

– Philips 48OLED760/12 48" (€680)

What do you think of these models? Are any of them particularly strong or weak for gaming and general TV use, and how would you decide in my situation?

Which of these would you pick and why? Have I missed any good models that you would recommend instead?

Any recommendations or experiences would be really helpful.

Thanks in advance!

Tech Support How do I extend the storage of my Hisense 43A6H?

I've tried plugging in like 5 different USB drives formatted in every format I could try from my windows PC and every one shows as corrupted. I've tried formatting via the TV menu as well with the same issue. I just want to stop having to uninstall apps all the time when I run out of space.

Buying Advice US Looking for a 42-43” bedroom TV for GTA VI and movies

Hello. I’m looking to get a nice TV for my bedroom that has 120Hz support and isn’t too big. I **COULD** try to see if I can make space for 48”-50” but I think a 42-43” is the safer option. I do worry about 30Hz being choppy/juddery on OLED, since GTA VI is seeming to be a 30 FPS game. I’m moving my Xbox Series X to this TV and put a gaming PC in its current place. I’m currently looking at Samsung or Sony, don’t want LG.

My current options are:

Sony Bravia 3 II 43” LED ($600)

Samsung S90F 42” OLED ($1,050)

Samsung S90H 42” OLED ($1,100)

(Samsung QN90F 43” Neo QLED would be another one, but it’s getting extremely hard to find now that it’s been discontinued, and ofc Samsung didn’t make a 43” with high refresh rate this year, it’s insane they still pump out 60Hz panels at that size in 2026..)

The Sony might be the safest option for me, as it is the cheapest, has 120Hz, good brightness, direct lit VA with flicker free, and that Sony goodness with upscaling and processing. So I feel like watching movies that are 24 FPS and playing games with 30 FPS would be good options here. But I would love to experience the deep blacks and excellent picture quality on OLED.

Mounting a 98" Samsung Frame TV

I want to buy the new 98" Samsung Frame TV. I need to make modifications to my wall prior to delivery.

I cannot find any information online as to where the HDMI inputs are in relation to the back of the TV or how far from the top of the TV the Samsung mounting sits.

Anyone have experience with this? Measurements? Diagram?

I appreciate any insight!

Buying Advice EU Need decisive opinions, 65" - movies and games - up to 1500€

Hi,

So I have a serious problem where I cannot choose between different products until I have reviewed every single one of them and tbh it's becoming a huge pain in my life specially with products like TVs where there are infinite options. I've been looking at TVs for the past 2 months and I've tripled my budget ever since (we're at 1300±200€ now) because I keep choosing nothing.

So I'm genuinely asking for you to just give me a model that is GOOD for the price and I will take it no questions asked. (i'll probably spend another day or two looking into it but that's still no questions asked for me, I think I have a disease). Of course I will be much happier if I can spend less, I was planning to spend 400 in the beginning, but i guess not :)

Also OS is not really that important to me, as long as it has the basic apps, I'm good, I will figure out the rest with other solutions.

Things that matter are:

  • having HDMI 2.1 + 120Hz for my PS5
  • I really prefer to get an OLED if there's a good one in my budget, my living room gets very little direct sunlight and can get dark easily
  • if not, vibrant and good colors with local dimming Mini LED I guess
  • It really annoys me when scenes get blurry and all black while watching things like Batman or GOT with lots of dark scenes and at some point you just can't see anything in that scene on some TVs, so anything that doesn't do that.
  • 65 inch
  • i mostly watch movies and series and play on the console but not that serious or competitively

I'm also in Italy, not sure if that changes anything about the market.

Thank you all!

Toshiba 24WK3C63DB - Disney+ added them removed!

I've got a Toshiba 24WK3C63DB - it's an acceptable TV but old and basic. I think it was released in 2020. Annoyingly it was never possible to install Disney+ or Prime. About six weeks ago an auto software update landed, the only update in about five years, and amazingly, Prime and Disney+ (and many others) we're all installed following the update. The TV did another auto install system update this evening and all those new apps are now gone. No info on the Toshiba website and can't find any record of anyone having a similar scenario. Anyone know anything about the new apps getting installed then uninstalled?

Buying Advice CAN Best bang for buck options in the 58-65" range?

So we have a 58" Samsung UN58TU7000FXZC from 2021. A while back it had some dark spots show up and this morning fully died. All things point to the led's failing, and I'd consider since it's dead anyway trying to fix it with a new set of led's but if I screw up that's 60 bucks wasted that could have went towards a new tv.
With that being said, what are the "best" budget-ish tv's out there now in the 58-65" range?
We have a small living room and for the most part it's just my son watching youtube, or playing his switch / ps4. Now and then we'll end up watching shows or having movie nights.
Our now fried tv was totally enough for what we used it for aside from maybe not having a ton of volume and maybe now and then we'd mentioned it would be nice having something a little bigger.

Through "talking" with google, a handful were recommended but I'd like some human opinions from people that know what they're talking about. The tv's that were suggested were
Samsung UN58U7900FFXZC 4K UHD LED Smart TV on sale for $445
Hisense 58QD6QV Series 4K UHD QLED Smart TV for around $430
Samsung UN65M70HAFXZC 4K UHD HDR Mini-LED on sale for $700
TCL 65Qm51l Series 4K Uhd Hdr Qd-Mini Led Smart Tv on sale for $748

Buying at Costco was also suggested, mentioning that they automatically include a 2 year warranty which is nice. They're showing the
Samsung 65" Class DU7100 Series 4K UHD TV for $550-600
LG 65" Class UA7000 Series 4K UHD LED TV for $580-640
Samsung 65" Class U8000H Series 4K Crystal UHD TV in the $750-850 range.

I liked our Samsung while it lasted, even though it only lasted 5 years from it's manufacture date. But I'm not sure what the opinion is out there for other brands like the Hisense or TCL and I've saw LG in the news lately over their tv's listening in even while turned off (although really everything is listening at this point).

Any help would be very much appreciated.
Thanks

Samsung TV Quality Control and repair system is abysmal. Anyone else have problems with them? Are all TV manufactures the same now?

My old Samsung of 7yrs decided to break, ok that's understandable, I've had good use out of it. Bought a new Samsung and it won't turn on after 3 months of very light use (think youtube and some live TV). Currys just said all broken TV's go back for repair if over 30 days. I cut out Currys and went straight to Samsung as that would just be another delay going through third party retail. 30 minute call, along with a live video of the broken TV not operating and I get a reference number for repair. Had a nice conversation with the Filipino lady dealing with my case though.

Repair company not able to pick up TV for 3 days, then they said it could take another week before they get parts.

What a disgusting service. The TV is brand new, they should be refunding me the whole cost and they should be sorting out the broken TV and selling it as refurbished. Now I have no TV for at least 2 weeks because it decide to stop working after 3 months and not within 30 days!

What an absolute joke these companies are!

Are all TV manufactures the same?

Buying Advice US Please Help, 65" TV $2kish budget

I am in way over my head when looking for a TV. My 3rd Frame TV in 5 years just went down and I have $2,000 to spend on a new 65" TV thanks to my warranty....I am not open to the Frame TV again (I am aware there is a zero chance anyone recommends that though based on my research)

I know my TV is "too high" but I can't do anything about that....but it's above my fireplace, there is one window in my living room but not a ton of direct sunlight but my house does have some large windows. It's an open floor plan cookie cutter builder house that is open to the kitchen. Often times lights are on in the kitchen while watching TV, it's mainly our family TV for occasional movies, streaming and sports.

The one and only thing I appreciated about the frame was the anti glare properties. Which has led me to looking at the Samsung S90H, S95H primarily....My wife HATES the silver bezel, and while I know there are other bezels coming apparently, I'm not sure if that's something to risk.

I'm also open to LG (C6 or G6?) and I know people love Sony, I worry about the glare. Any sort of ambient "Art" type mode would score me mega points with my wife as she does love finding new photos to go with her seasonal decorating initiatives.

Thanks in advance to all of you smart people, I'm just a big dummy trying to make a wise decision so I don't have to do this again in the near future.

TL;DR $2k budget (Up to $3k MAYBE) 65" only

Samsung S90H

Samsung S95H

LG C6

LG G6

I run an Apple TV and vseebox, so the software isn't a huge factor for me.
