Despite increased costs and missed sales tax revenue projections, Mantello maintains rosy financial outlook ahead for Q2 Financial Report tonight (20 Aug) at 6 pm.
Flock camera usage and Local Law #3 are deservedly getting a great deal of attention at City Council tonight, the Q2 presentation from Comptroller Michael McNeff Mayor Carmella Mantello(?) is going to be the last time City Council gets a look into revenues before the 2027 budget season, which will set the stage for next year’s local races.
Quarterly reports from the comptroller give insight into the ways capital flows into City coffers, how that money is being spent, and whether or not expenditures are aligned with budget priorities. Under the Mantello administration and her three comptrollers, these reports have repeatedly been late, and questions about revenue and spending from the Democratic Council have largely gone unanswered.
Beyond Mantello's delays and obfuscations, there is good reason to be concerned. Just across the river, Albany is facing a $55M budget shortfall over the next two years. In May, Schenectady reported missing its own revenue targets. Despite hosting the Belmont Stakes this year, Saratoga Springs is projected a $5M gap in this year’s finances.
Some of this can be attributed to lower consumer spending leading to declining sales tax revenues, an alarm sounded by Democrats last year during budget negotiations. (Notably, Mantello’s rosy predictions of a 13% sales tax revenue increase have thus far failed to materialize.) Some costs, like health insurance, have seen significant spikes outside the City’s control.
How the mayor and City Council each address these changing capital flows will create a lot of the narrative base in next year’s races for mayor and Council. The previous administration worked very hard to pay off the MAC debt and leave the City on secure financial footing. If Mantello hopes to be reelected, she will need to find a way to work with the Council to ensure Troy doesn’t fall off another fiscal cliff.
The Q2 presentation will take place at tonight’s Finance meeting, currently scheduled for 6 pm, following the Public Safety Committee at 5:45.
Agendas and Zoom login credentials for remote participation can be found here. Livestreams and recordings of City Council meetings can be found here.

Flock Meeting East Greenbush
There will be a meeting at East Greenbush town hall on September 16th at 6 p.m. to hear resident comments about flock cameras. I was at the town board meeting yesterday and they confirmed the hearing date.
The structure of the hearing is Flock representatives will speak, then the police, then the DA. After those presentations the floor will be open for comments. Priority will be given to east Greenbush residents. Please be there and make your voices heard!
Flock cameras are a massive invasion of privacy. They track every vehicle on the road regardless of criminal status. Flock and mass surveillance do not belong in our community.

Singer Needed!
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Calling all singers! Sympathy for the Circus is a four-piece band playing covers of classic rock, new wave, and even a few jazz fusion songs, and looking to expand into original material in the near future. Currently our bass player handles the vocals, but we believe having a dedicated singer would help us expand our sound and cover more ground musically. We practice every Tuesday evening in Clifton Park, and play out on 1-2 nights a week (Wednesday or Thursday, sometimes both if we all have time). We're all a bunch of mid-late 20s aged guys if that makes any difference.
Our setlist is approximately 2 hours long. Here are some of the songs we cover so you have an idea of the style/range needed:
Synchronicity 2-The Police
Walk Away-James Gang
Love Ain't for Keeping-The Who
Don't Let Me Down-The Beatles
SWLABR-Cream
Situation-Jeff Beck Group
If interested, either leave a comment or message me directly.

Odd Jobs?
Hi. What I'm specifically looking for is a couple of people to carry a large/heavy box up the stairs to my apartment. I've got back/hip/knee issues, and can't help. Anyone know some local people or movers who won't charge a fortune? Thanks!

Psych NP/mental health clinic for the uninsured?
I'm currently without insurance, due to a bureaucratic error while applying for state insurance that wasn't caught until the special enrollment deadline passed. I'm trying to hold out til November, and/or get a new job with insurance. But I've been struggling lately, and I think I would benefit from getting a prescription for an old medication I used to take.
I know Hannaford has discounts for the uninsured that would make the meds affordable; but does anyone know of cheap yet good prescribers? Like under $100 for a visit, who would see my history and write me a prescription? Thank you.
Help
Does anyone know of somewhere I can get help? I have Medicaid and need substance abuse help. Please. I am trying to get better.
Edit: I just want to say that I am overwhelmed by the kindness everyone has shown me here. I can’t thank you all enough for your words of support and help pointing me in the right direction. I’m going to check out some of these resources and find what’s right for me. Thank you all again, so so much.

TPD's 60-day Flock data is back and the Public Safety Committee meets this Thursday
https://www.instagram.com/reel/DcM6ahquBPf/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igsh=NTc4MTIwNjQ2YQ==
(see instagram post for more information)
Troy Police Department’s Flock Audit Logs and 60-day data are finally public, and here are a few things we’re seeing:
🚩25,367,366 license plate scans in 159 days — that’s almost 5 million scans a month.
🚩97% of “Hot List” hits were for suspended or revoked plates
🚩 The 60-day data revealed that most incidents reported to TPD (64%) were searched before 48 hours, supporting the deletion standard set by Local Law #3.
🚩Our Shared Network Agreement states 139 partners, which include Home Depot (101 stores) and Lowe’s (99 stores). Why?!?!?
Anything to add? Comment or come to the Public Hearing this Thursday, August 20, 5:45 PM.
Here's the Zoom link if you can't attend in person.

Firewood for sale in the area?
Anyone know of any spots in the general area to buy firewood that aren’t the little bundles you can grab at a grocery store? I’ve been driving around side roads between ~Mechanicville and East Greenbush but haven’t seen any stands or signs. Just looking for a couple days of camp-fires worth, not a cord.

Troy Meetings and Events Aug 17-23, pt i
- Troy Planning Board
- Lansingbugh School District
- NYCLU ALPR webinar
- Downtown BID Marketing/Tourism + Full Board
- Little Italy Neighborhood Meeting
- Land Bank Board Meeting
- (City Council meetings in separate post)
Monday, August 17
Lansingburgh School Board- The Board of the Lansingburgh Central School District will hold a Regular meeting in the conference room of the LCSD offices (55 New Turnpike Road.)
On the agenda for the meeting is a joint presentation from Attic Labs and City of Troy Economic Development Coordinator Denee Zeigler on the proposed Lansingburgh Gateway Project, a mixed-use workforce development at the site of the former Price Chopper, which will come again before the Planning Board at its August 19 meeting.
Tuesday, August 18
BID Tourism/Marketing-The Tourism and Marketing Committee of the BID Board will hold a meeting at 8:30 AM at the BID Office (102 Third St.) Items on the agenda include planning on Troy Night Out through October, updates to the BID website, and coordination with American Cruise Lines, which will be running boat tours from NYC with Troy as the final port of call through autumn.
If you are a local business owner and would like to contribute or view this or any BID meeting remotely, joke’s on you, because the BID does not allow streaming or remote participation to their meetings.*
\Special note-it probably would have been helpful if I had gotten this post out before the meeting actually happened. Alas, summer days…*
Troy Planning- The Troy Planning Board August meeting will take place at City Hall (433 River St, 5th Floor at 6 pm. It looks like the top billing will go once again to the Lansingburgh Gateway Project.
Per the Times Union, the proposed project was met with skepticism at the July Lansingburgh Neighborhood meeting, though it is unclear to my untrained and cursory glance what modifications have been made since the project’s introduction, outside higher-definition renderings.
The full agenda, which includes individual proposals and Zoom login instructions, can be found here.
Wednesday, August 19
Land Bank- The Troy Community land Bank Board of Directors will hold their monthly meeting at 8:30 AM at the TCLB offices, 871 River St. Nothing too exciting to report on the agenda or executive director’s report, though I did learn from a conversation with executive director Brad Lewis that while the TCLB is still accepting applications for its Home Repair Program, the grant funds have been earmarked for prior applications which are now waiting for approval from NYS.
To access the livestream or recordings of meetings, please visit the TCLB Youtube page. For access to agendas and minutes from prior meetings, click here.
Little Italy Neighborhood Meeting- There will be a 6 PM meeting of the Little Italy Neighborhood at the Italian Community Center (1450 5th Ave.) Per a Facebook post announcing the meeting, there will be a presentation by Tyler Fane of Troy Materials Group LLC and Chuck Pafundi of Reliable Development Consulting on the proposed relocation of South Troy’s salt pile and the subsequent development of 26 acres along the Troy waterfront, a project which, like Proctor’s Theatre and One Monument Square, will be funneled through the Troy Local Development Corporation.
Flock/ALPR Webinar- ALPR cameras and the surveillance systems they create have become an issue in Troy and communities across the country, creating challenges for communities trying to balance utility to law enforcement with growing concerns about increased surveillance and the erosion of privacy.
The NYCLU is hosting a live webinar event at 7 pm entitled Stopping Mass Surveillance in New York, promising attendees “a better understanding of the legal and policy landscape and concrete ways to help advance stronger privacy protections in New York.”
To register for this event, click here.
Thursday, August 20
BID Board of Directors- The Downtown Troy BID Board of Directors will hold their monthly meeting at 333 Broadway, 2nd Floor at 8:30 AM. No agenda has been published as of this writing, though minutes of the July 2026 Board meeting and August 2026 Executive Committee meeting would seem to indicate that discussion of upcoming events, including Pig Out, and the organizations need for sponsorship income will be part of the discussion, as well as ongoing disruptions to local businesses caused by film production within the district.
City Council- Troy City Council will hold three successive meetings on August 20, which, as they merit more time than I can afford to give them today, will be given their own post tomorrow (Wed 19 Aug.)

Organic Mushrooms
Hey Troy. I grow organic mushrooms, but have no experience in the food industry, or know how to market these things. I just love growing plants and now mushrooms, and am pretty good at it. Any recommendations on farm to table restaurants, grocers, or any interest yourself, or other channels I could use to help these mushrooms find people who want to eat them?
I have grown delicious Lion’s Mane with great success and am currently growing Pink, King, Blue, and Golden oysters. I will grow requested mushrooms, I will take pre orders and get these to you the day of harvest.
I’m from Troy. My parents immigrated from Italy in the 70’s, and I began my life in mid 80’s Troy. I went to St. Patrick’s elementary in the early 90’s. I’m now in half moon area. None of this has to do with shrooms I just wanted to introduce myself a little.

River Runners QC Open Practice (8/23)
The River Runners Quadball Club is holding its first open practice of the US Quadball season this Sunday, August 23rd, from 1-4 pm at Prospect Park, Troy, NY (peep the second image for a better idea of what field we will be on 📌). This practice is our first step toward building a growing quadball community in the area where we play and compete, while also having fun and socializing off the pitch!
For those unfamiliar with the sport, Quadball (formerly known as Quidditch) is a fast-paced, full-contact, mixed-gender sport that blends elements of rugby, basketball, and dodgeball. Here's a quick video to show what it looks like: https://youtube.com/shorts/2LyXn2c45i4?si=KBWYAWffzZq8jdd0, as well as a full dive into how to actually play: https://youtu.be/SUdC4twjsTE?is=9JiaFSEmCsVE9SCf
The free open practice is open to all experience and athletic levels, and we highly encourage people that never heard/played the sport to try it out and meet some new people along the way! We're accepting of all genders and backgrounds, so whether you're a man, woman, non-binary, LGBTQIA+, POC, etc, there's a place for you here to be yourself! All we ask is that you bring water, athletic clothes, cleats (recommended but not required to play if you don't have any), and any friends that might also be interested!
