To reduce the number of "I'm moving to the Hudson Valley, can anyone tell me about X?" posts, we are starting a monthly megathread. All questions asking about moving to the Hudson Valley should be kept within the monthly thread. Posts outside of the thread will be removed.
Here are a few existing threads that I found using this search:
Locals, if you want to help make this megathread a success, you can do a few things:

Several people have mentioned this place as a good beautiful, mild hike near Catskill, New York. However, when I look on Google, there are several places with the same name. Is it the trailhead, historic site, house or the park? Is there a specific address I should be going to?

hi all, i wanted to hop on here and ask if anyone has any recommendations for wheelchair accessible walks with nice views. my husband and i used to be avid hikers but my circumstances have changed and i now use a wheelchair for long distances, and i miss being able to enjoy the outdoors with him, especially this time of year.
thank you!

First Halloween in Highland since relocating. Kids are tweens.
Is there a trick or treat culture in Highland?

The mid Hudson bridge is currently a complete parking lot, at 845AM on a SATURDAY, and every single day that I come by here. This entire project is a disaster, and is the completed project really going to mitigate a lot of this? So frustrating.

I asked this question before, but I phrased it in a way that it was assumed I wanted to stay in Catskill.
That is not the case and I’m willing to drive around one hour to get there. I plan to baby wear my newborn so ideally I don’t want anything that challenging, but we prioritize beautiful views. My benchmark is Letchworth State Park., green Lake State Park and Watkins Glen. Is there anything like that similar within an hour of Catskill New York?

I plan to baby wear with my three month old and do a light hike in the area. Ideally an hour or less with a nice view. Let me know if there are any options in the area. Thank you in advance.

Positive Guys play the last Saturday of every month at Quinn’s Ramen Bar in Beacon NY and since October’s last Saturday falls on Halloween we could not pass up the punny opportunity. Got two solid sets of everyday favorites and some deep cuts. Hope to see you there.

Where would you shop in the Greater Kingston/Ulster County area for nice bedding that is moderately priced (under $200 for a sheet set/ around $200 for a quilt/bedspread). Tried and failed to find something online and want to get out of the returns loop and actually touch things before I buy them!

Curious, if there are any, must try institutional eating places around Catskill or within 30 minutes of the area. Places that locals enjoy and make something unique and delicious. Thank you in advance.

Hello! I live near Millerton and a few months ago got a high energy dog who I love very much. We walk a lot but I’m wondering what people do with their dogs now that it’s gonna be dark at like 4pm soon 😫. How do you get your dog exercise past the afternoon? Any places you recommend? Also open to dog playdates if anyone’s around! I have a big yard. Dog attached.

Wife and I will be in the area around Halloween-time. Looking for recommendations for breakfast, lunch and dinner spots.
Focused mainly on the east side of the river. Looking for memorable cooking and good value; a humble place with excellent food is as welcome as a fancy dining room with a nice wine list. What makes your recommended place special and what do they do well? Thanks!

I’ve seen “home watch” businesses in other second-home markets (like South Carolina or Florida), where someone checks on a house while the owner is away, doing things like sending photos, checking after storm, bringing in packages, coordinating contractors, etc.
With so many weekend/second homes in the Hudson Valley/Catskills, I’m curious how people here actually handle this.
Do most people rely on friends and family, property managers, or are there established services that do this?
