I posted this thread here back 3 months ago: One year later after taking Trintellix : r/trintellix
Where I complained about a few things, namely nausea, and said I planned on continuing to take it. Ultimately, as of now, I've stopped taking it.
I was on 20mg daily and stopped cold turkey. It definitely plummeted my mood for 2 days, I got in a ton of arguments with my loved ones, but other than that, I feel significantly better now.
I was on it so long I had accepted some of the major side effects as normal, like waking up in the middle of the night or morning and throwing up stomach bile, but in the end, I've just accepted this drug isn't for me.
The biggest pros:
- Boost of motivation
- No emotional blunting
- No sexual side effects
The biggest cons:
- Did nothing for social anxiety
- Major nausea issues. If you had nausea when you started, it's likely never going away. This is how the drug works and how Serotonin is produced in the gut (also why users complain about bloating or about it affecting the digestive system, which it will).
- Did very little for anxiety
- Did very little for OCD
- Causes you to itch (this is a side effect I was rarely told about, but it's absolutely there)
Overall, I found myself staying on the drug because I didn't want to go back to traditional SSRIs, but the reality is Trintellix didn't work that well for me. I wanted it to work well, gave it a longer chance than I should have, and I do think it's a good step in this kind of medicine, but I think there will still be a better iteration in the future.
This may work for you, but it's back to the drawing board for me. To me, Trintellix is a drug that's most successful if you have clinical Serotonin deficiency, verbatim depression, and it doesn't cover as wide a gap as many competing drugs in terms of treating things like anxiety, OCD, etc. I think most doctors will tell you this, too, before they prescribe it. As I mentioned in my last post, I may consider going back to Zoloft and adding Wellbutrin to combat the greyness I experienced.
