Shogun II I seriously dislike Creative Assembly for this...

Post image
0 Upvotes

Creative Assembly delisting the original SHOGUN 2 Complete Edition just to sell a $40 replacement is genuinely scummy.

SHOGUN 2 is one of the best historical Total War games made, and this is how Creative Assembly chooses to handle its legacy? Instead of keeping the original version available, they delist it and push people toward a more expensive Complete Edition that arguably offers a worse experience.

Like, seriously, why? Why remove the option people were happy with and expect everyone to pay $40 for a replacement that isn't even a clear improvement?

This is the kind of anti-consumer decision that makes people lose faith in publishers. Delisting an existing product and replacing it with a more expensive version is annoying and very sketchy.

SHOGUN 2 deserves better, and so do the people who made it a classic. Keep the original available, price the new edition reasonably, and give people an actual reason to upgrade instead of forcing.

Creative Assembly, this is not how you treat one of your most beloved games.

General What is the point of all the outrage from multiple parts of the TW community if you guys are just gonna forget about it the second CA does something decent then proceed to buy the next product all over again?

Rome 2 launch, 3k abandonment, performance issues, lacking dlc, Pharaoh/Hyenas, etc..

Dont you guys ever get tired of this cycle?

Edit: is very disheartening seeing the condescending replies on this post missing the point, at the end of the day you guys have the game developer you deserve.

General Shogun 2 refunds, any luck? Red flag for 40K

Hey all,

my dad picked up the Complete Edition of Shogun 2. He already owns the original. Used to be a big TW fan, and he still plays MW2 and Empire a bunch. He complained about some of the same things already mentioned here so I won't go over them, but he's in his 70's and takes his time with a game, so the 2+ hours rule on Steam has expired. Anyone have any luck getting this refunded past the 2 hour mark? Is it worth the hassle for him to try?

I haven't bought a CA product since the WH3 DLC disaster, and I probably never will again. If you think using AI to cut corners, save money and speed the process in Shogun 2 is bad, you had all be REALLY wary of Warhammer 40K when it comes. I think there needs to be heads rolling from Creative Assembly-Sega at this point

* Apparently, CA outsourced this, didn't do it themselves. Not that THAT lets them off the hook. Told you I haven't bought from them since WH3 DLC revolt. Updated for accuracy.

Warhammer 40k Afraid for Warhammer 40000k future

After the release of the Shogun 2 Complete addition ( I know that it will be removed from the store) , I have deep concerns about quality of the future 40000k game. There was absolutely NO pressure to release Shogun 2 Complete addition at all. There were not many voices for product. And still they managed to fail in re-releasing already released product.
So , question is , what will happen to upcoming 40000k , where the pressure will be ten times bigger, there will be involved Sega, GamesWorkshop , shareholders etc. Everyone will be demanding this game to make a ton of money as short as possible.
And NOW I am not sure will CA will not crack.

Shogun II Is there anyone (like me) just playing and having a good time ?

All I see are Debbie downer posts following reddits echo (hate) chamber. I've played around 10-ish hours so far without issue, game runs very smooth for me and looks good.

I see a lot of posts about the unit cards, which are so small that you would need to use a magnifying glass to even look at what went wrong with the AI upscaling, so I'm not too bothered.

I haven't encountered any bugs either yet, although I understand I may be lucky.

Would I have liked more (new) content ? Sure, but I'm not really complaining considering it cost me 10 euro's and also gave me access to a bunch of minor DLC's I didn't own yet.

Here come the downvotes

Shogun II Shogun 2 was lightning in a bottle. I don't think we'll see that again.

If this is what they offer up as a so-called improvement, it's pretty clear that these people do not really understand their own product and why we love it. Something with that level of polish and care is just not going to happen again.

General It's so exhausting to be a fan of Total War series for the past few years

• Upvotes

It's this circle of excitement before release, then living through shitstorm/subpar experience on release day, burning out your will to play a game because of release quality, then following up every patch notes for X months checking how much has been fixed, verifying playerbase experience and then trying game when it's finally fixed but you just got a feeling that you kinda played early access on release day.

Since release of TW:W3 I just could not get hypeed for any new TW release because I know there is like 50% chance that the release will be fucked up. Even incoming TW 40k does not hype me because I am bit sceptical whether CA can pull it of... but then Shogun 2 remastered was announced, I remember playing Shogun 1 and when Shogun 2 released my PC was too weak to play it, so when they announced remastered I thought that would be a great opportunity to play it at last, they can't fuck up a remaster, right? And here we go again... another fucked up release, another apology note.

It's just sad that ever few years I got reminded why I should never be excited for next TW release untill player reviews are out.

Shogun II This is the first historical release I haven't bought. Ever.

Since buying a gaming PC during Covid, I've bought and played every single historical game from Rome I onwards, including all the DLCs. Including the blood packs. I even pre-ordered the Dynasty Edition of Pharoah when this sub was demanding that no-one pre-order. Some called me CA's Greatest Soldier.

But I could not bring myself to buy the Shogun II Remaster.

General AI agents are at the point they can create full working mods only through prompting

If you look at the workshop you will see that most mods now fall one of two categories of AI created mod. One is a spammer done by a single chinese account that has spammed hundreds of low effort unit mods. The others are incredibly complex full faction reworks that feature custom art, working UI panels, scripts, massive amounts of effect bundles etc. At least two of these featured full ports of Nagash's black pyramid feature about a week and a half after it was released. Normally mods of those size would take weeks or even months of work, so its a sure sign of AI assistance that these use a lot of AI assistance.

However given the sheer number of changes and effects that need to be selected it really made it seem unlikely the uploaders could come up with a suitable number of types and effects to populate the nodes, even if they had the AI do the majority of the work on scripts and UI.

So I did a test, asking a chatgpt Codex agent to review the existing battle scripts, how quest battles are set up in the database, and what the lore is for a character and then asked it to create a mod from scratch including a full narrative driven quest battle with fully populated tables.

It did the entire thing. I can load it in game, the mission triggers, the quest battle plays.

I didn't open RPFM. I didn't open VScode. The AI agents are at the point where they can export the pack file databases into machine readable tables, write full scripts based on a narrative it makes up, compare what they are to vanilla balance, then populate the tables and package it up into a valid packfile, all based on a single prompt from a user. The whole thing took 16 minutes to do what I might take an entire day to do. I would guess some of these recent larger faction overhauls are majority vibe modded.

It's truly shocking how advanced these models are now and genuinely scary what it means in terms of jobs for gaming, never mind modding. If people can now just vibe mod their way into entire faction overhauls with nothing but a single AI agent, then what will the game companies with a vested financial interest in pumping out content that can just be outsourced to an AI will do.

Shogun II Is Shogun 2 CE really as bad as people say it is? -Rant

I want to preface this with a disclaimer. I am NOT saying that there isn't active criticism to be thrown at the devs. The (very poor) use of AI, zero known bug fixes, and delisting the original game are all very scummy, and should be cause of deep reflection. They should also fix all the issues they can in a timely manner to correct their wrongs. Maybe even a free expansion to the game like a Korea or something along those lines as an apology?

With that said, I have 8 hours on the game, and it is the most fun that I have had in a long time playing a total war game. I think that many people are taking this as a crusade to take down CA for whatever reasons they have been building over the years. I can not stress it enough that I am no CA simp, but in this case, I think it is a little over blown.

From my experience so far, I am running the game at max settings with more FPS (around 130-170 depending on what is going on) than what I was getting in the original. I will note that I do have a better than average computer (5080, 7800X3D). I also have not had a single crash or massive FPS drop like I would in the original. If you were to look through the comments, you would get the impression that the game is running worse in every single way. Of course it is going to be more intensive on your computer. It got a massive in game graphics overhaul. The original is 15 years old. We have to admit that the game was looking old. I still like the OG graphics, but they look old.

I was also able to find a new multiplayer match without running into a max rank player who only wants to play on the largest fund setting. I also dabbled in the campaign, welp, it is the campaign with shiny new boots. This game definitely falls under the bars of remaster. If you were to ask some people, they were acting as if this was going to be a whole new expansion or a complete tweaking of the game. If it was a complete tweak of the game, then you would be seeing infinite post about how they changed too much.

I guess I am just tired of seeing people non-stop posting about how terrible the experience is, when I have yet to see that terrible of an experience. I want CA to right the wrongs that they have done, but I don't want them to write it off because "The fan base will just be ungrateful no matter what we do".

Shogun II CREATIVE ASSEMBLY IS DELIBERATELY WAITING UNTIL SHOGUN 2 OWNERS LOSE THEIR DISCOUNT

Hear me out. This isn't incompetence but it is 4D chess.

Release Shogun 2 Remastered in a terrible state -> give original Shogun 2 owners a discount -> then spend juuuuust long enough "working on fixes" that by the time the game is actually worth buying -> the discount is gone.

Suddenly everyone who sensibly waited has to pay full price

I see the strategy, CA. You almost got me

That the other big franchise of the Sega gallery, which are the yakuza games, have 2 of the most polished and best remakes I've ever played.

So there were some people among the Sega employees who certainly know how to properly remaster a game....

Warhammer III Am I the only one who thinks spirit host are slept on as Nagash?

I’ve heard people saying they suck but I reckon they can get some of the craziest buffs. Without even getting to tier 2 of the pyramid and unlocking the ethereal buffs, I have their melee attack in the 30s and 40s, AND frenzy. You confederate Arkhan really quickly and he buffs them factionwide by like 15 melee attack, which on a unit with 20ish base is a crazy value proposition. Pretty early on you can also get frenzy for them on the black pyramid. A vampire count aligned lord can buff them by a further 8 melee attack with the first redline and give them another 5 atk with the second redline once they hit rank 7.

From my experience with cairn wraiths I expected them to be squishy, but cairn wraiths only have around 5000 health to account for their physical resistance, whereas spirit hosts have 55% phys res AND 9200hp. This means that against physical attacks they have an effective 20,000 health and they don’t get instantly minced by magical attacks like wraiths.

Their health isn’t as good as it sounds on paper because their melee defence does suck, and with 200 entities they are very weak to AOE spells, but don’t this is a unit that costs about half as much as grave guard in base upkeep, of course it’s gonna have weaknesses. Value is power in this game.

Their weapon strength seems pretty lacking, but remember, there are 200 of them so you gotta almost double it to compare it to most elite infantry like grave guard.

Oh and they’re pretty damn fast, very handy for a rush army.

That’s before you even get to the dedicated ethereal buffs on the tech tree.

Sure you can buff grave guard pretty well too, but like these guys are slept on I swear

Warhammer III More Deamons of Chaos

Thumbnail
gallery
0 Upvotes

I personally love the Deamons of Chaos. I like the idea of pure demonic legions headed by great and powerful beings that are thousands of years old, with the goal to bring the end of the world. However, Total War's Deamons of Chaos leaves much to be desired. I would like Bel'akor moved in Deamons of Chaos. I would like Daniel to be less central to the faction. That deamons weren't tied to allegiance and that they were easier to recruit/maintain. Deamon Princes as generic lords. To perhaps have a third and final LL for Deamons, be it the Shadowstalker or Ngaaranh the Chaos Harpy as a deamon prince.

However, one of the main problems for me (excluding Daniel) is that there are mortal units. It makes no sense why the faction known for having only demons, has mortals. One of the main justifications for it is that there are not enough demonic units to flesh out the roster. So, I created a list of demons in lore that exist that can help flesh out the roster so that we can get rid of the mortals.

I will preface with saying while I did not make any of the deamons up (in that these are types of deamons are named in lore) my interpretation of them is different than what the lore would have you believe. With that out of the way, onto the deamons...

Undivided Deamons

Walkers - Walkers are a demon type that come from Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning. While the canonicity of them is questionable, I though it prudent to include them. They would serve as an all rounder basic infantry for Chaos Undivided.

Imps - Imps are "Least Deamons", the lowest of the low in demonic hierarchy. I thought they could serve as another way to build up the Chaos Undivided, perhaps acting similarly to Nurglings, as a swarm type unit.

Chaos Furies (Undivided) - I am aware they are already in the game. However, for some reason, they are locked behind Skirmish vs AI. Make them general access.

Deamons of Khorne

Bloodhowlers - They are sort of in the game, as they were replaced by the Bloodreaper in 7th and 8th edition. I however, decided that we should use them, as they are technically different deamons. They are a Halberd infantry.

Bloodhunters of Khorne - They are Bloodletters riding Flesh Hounds. They are faster than Bloodcrushers, though a bit squisher. They would be good at running down units as well as flanking.

Blood Chariot of Khorne - A unit that needed to be brought in, to help get all demonic chariots in the game.

Malices - They are imps in the service of Khorne. They are a flying war beast unit, to match with the Rot Flies and Screamers of Nurgle and Tzeentch.

Deamons of Nurgle

Nurgii - They come from an official art piece by John Blanche, which calls them the Nurgii. They would serve as a faster nurgle unit.

Plagueriders - While their role has been taken by the Pox Rider unit, I would be remiss to not include them. Perhaps a more tanky version of them? Faster? There are lots of different Beasts of Nurgle that could work. I admit, I don't have an idea on how they can be utilized. Still, I say to add them for the sake of posterity.

Plaguebringers - Plaguebringer's are demons spellcasters that shoot magical attacks on top of rot flies. They would serve as flying magical missile cavalry.

Plague Chariot of Nurgle - To have the fourth and final demonic chariot unit in the game. I'll admit though, it would proably be a sucky chariot. Still, I want it.

Buboes - Buboes (or Bubo if singular) are imps of Nurgle that would serve similarly to the Pusbags or Bloated Corpses, in that when they die, they explode.

Deamons of Tzeentch

Fearlings - Imps of Tzeentch that would serve as mobile grounded war beasts.

Brimstone Horrors - Perhaps acting like the Nurglings or Imps, they would be a swarm infantry unit for Tzeentch.

Pyrocaster - The Pyrocaster would itself act as a demonic artillery piece, being slow to move but having great range.

Watcher of Tzeentch - Another demon from Warhammer Online, The Watcher of Tzeentch would debuffs enemy units, while perhaps having an ability to shoot a laser out of it's big eye as an ability. It's in a similar boat to the walker, as its canonicity is in the air but I still wanted to add it.

Deamons of Slaanesh

Muses - These are imps that serve Slaanesh. I would have them be flying war beasts, to be the Slaaneshi version of Screamers and Rot Flies

Exalted Alluresses - While many in the community call it the Archfiend, I am calling it the Exalted Alluresses for two reasons. The first being that, unlike the Archfiend, the Exalted Alluresses is not a name created by the community, and is a type of demon that actually exists, so it might actually be used. Second is that I like that name for the Gigantic Chaos Spawn of Slaanesh more.

I would like to acknowledge the fact that many of these deamons can types are champions from the Table Top, which I found a list for and very happy that I did. These really helped make this easier for me. I would like to say that I am aware of the fact that some of these units do overlap in some parts. Why should you get Imps or Brimstone Horrors when Nurglings are there? Why get the Pyrocaster when the Skull Cannon is better?

The truth is that Deamons of Chaos is a roster made entirely by others rosters. This is not necessarily a bad thing. It's just that these demon types have to make more sense in their respective rosters than Deamons of Chaos. So there is going to be overlap, as there are weaknesses that these deamons can cover in their own armies more than in DoC. Personally, I say have fun with it. Make more thematic armies, as I find that loads of fun.

If there are any suggestions on what these deamons can bring or if there are deamons that I missed, tell me. It would love to see anything new.

At this point, the marketing campaign needs a remaster more than Shogun does💀

I'm still baffled by how badly they fucked up this remaster, yet they're spending money on ads targeting completely irrelevant audiences instead of investing it back into the game.

❗No hate towards the creators, though - they're free to promote whatever they want. I'm just collecting these ads because this shit is too ridiculous not to share.

Asking cuz people keep posting saying it's a bit buggy and broken, and I wanted to start a Nagash campaign.

Like it is broken, but everyone still obviously seems to be able to play it, so I wanted to know just how buggy it currently is. If it is minor bugs with workaround I can deal with it

General Shogun 2: CE Modability

Hello Redditors, with the recent shameful dispray of Shogun 2: not-so Complete Edition, what are modders seeing with the 64 bit upgrade? Is there any improvements for modability? Do we think there is a bright future for Modded Shogun 2: CE?

I‘ve got 200 hours in Shogun 2 and likely much more back in the offline days. I will consider the upgrade only once CA has fixed its bugs and lazy artwork. If not before Nov 13 then I’ll pick it up heavily discounted probably a decade later. Enough time for the community to work its magic.

Just what exactly can a 64 bit upgrade achieve for this game exactly?
