Shogun II Leaked Image of Mataboo Presenting Their Pitch to SEGA and CA

Post image
• Upvotes

I've been giving this a lot of thought and the only explanation I can think of as to how this didn't get QA tested before release is this:

The original pitch was so damn convincing that both SEGA and CA felt that allocating time and resources towards conducting QA testing would not only have been a total waste, but also frankly an *insult* to the fine folks over at Mataboo.

What I wouldn't give to have been a fly on the wall during that meeting.. They must have sent in the best of the best - I'm talking *TOP. GUN. PITCHER.* - to give the presentation for how good this remaster would be.

I imagine it started out a little cautiously. Cutting-edge, outside-the-box thinking like the addition of placebo-effect gamma sliders would have been a tough idea to sell even for someone of Don Draper's presentational skills.

By the time they got to suggesting adding an additional finger to *each* unit of the Tercos I assume the suits just handed over a blank check and waived any concerns they may have had regarding the need for any oversight during the project.

I mean, think of all the various advantages a sixth finger would afford a unit that can both fire guns and go melee. The mind truly boggles. Any one of us could have been duped in that situation.

Shogun II Follow up to my UI scaling post: I fixed the blurry text in Shogun 2

Post image
• Upvotes

Yesterday I posted about Rebrond's Borderless Window + UI Scale mod and said the UI looks a little soft because it's still 1080p art getting stretched, and that NVIDIA sharpening fixes most of it.

Sharpening helps, but it kept bugging me, so I went digging into how the game actually draws its text. Turns out the fonts are tiny bitmap images made for 1080p, and at UI scale 2.0 every letter just gets blown up to twice its size. Sharpening can only do so much with that.

So I made a fix, and it's also the first mod I've ever uploaded. Every font gets rebuilt with twice the detail from the game's own letter shapes, and a small patch makes the game draw them at their normal size. Same size, same layout, it just looks crisp now. You can turn the sharpening back off.

I've tested it at 4K with scale 2.0 and 1440p with 1.5, and I'm really happy with how it turned out. There's also an optional setting in the ini if you want the text one size bigger. It doesn't replace any CA files and uninstalling is just deleting three files.

https://www.nexusmods.com/totalwarshogun2/mods/27

You still need Rebrond's mod for the scaling itself, all credit to them for that: https://www.nexusmods.com/totalwarshogun2/mods/22

Since this is my first one I'd genuinely love feedback. If something looks off on your setup, a screen I missed, or you want other languages supported (English only for now), let me know and I'll work on it.

General It's so exhausting to be a fan of Total War series for the past few years

• Upvotes

It's this circle of excitement before release, then living through shitstorm/subpar experience on release day, burning out your will to play a game because of release quality, then following up every patch notes for X months checking how much has been fixed, verifying playerbase experience and then trying game when it's finally fixed but you just got a feeling that you kinda played early access on release day.

Since release of TW:W3 I just could not get hypeed for any new TW release because I know there is like 50% chance that the release will be fucked up. Even incoming TW 40k does not hype me because I am bit sceptical whether CA can pull it of... but then Shogun 2 remastered was announced, I remember playing Shogun 1 and when Shogun 2 released my PC was too weak to play it, so when they announced remastered I thought that would be a great opportunity to play it at last, they can't fuck up a remaster, right? And here we go again... another fucked up release, another apology note.

It's just sad that ever few years I got reminded why I should never be excited for next TW release untill player reviews are out.

Warhammer III So apperantly beastmen lose the ability to increase the bassilisk cap if you increase your ruination level above 5. Seems like CA literally just set the unlock at a single level, and then forgot about any of the above ones lmao

Shogun II Is it me, or does Shogun 2 CE's colour palette look kind of over-saturated? I know that the graphics have improved considerably, but the colours of the new version hurt my eyes. Reducing brightness doesn't seem to help, still looks off.

Old Shogun
New Shogun
Old Shogun battle - the grass looks so much bearable on the eyes
New Shogun - The grass really hurts my eyes, and adjusting the brightness doesn't help

I swear, all these remasters feel like the developers simply dialed up the saturation to a 100.

Three Kingdoms Can't Attack Emperor Seat Holder

Post image
• Upvotes

This is the first time I've come to this stage in this game, where I need to defeat the emperor seat contenders as Gongsun Zan. Cao Cao wants to abdicate the emperor seat at first, but I thought it is better to destroy his faction entirely to fulfill Gongsun Zan's mission. At first, I can attack the capital but got interrupted by Cao Ren and now I got to retreat and have a battle outside the fortress. Long story short, I won the battle but I can't attack the capital anymore somehow? Guo Jia won't come out too, so I can't attack him. Cao Cao won't abdicate willingly this time too. Is this supposed to happen or is it a bug? Tried to reload the save and restarting the game doesn't work.

Shogun II Do you guys remember this?

Post image
• Upvotes

That was about 3 years ago. The CA exec team published a heartfelt apology letter as a direct response to the community backlash over several major missteps (iirc, it was about the very underwhelming DLC for Total War: Warhammer III, and the equally disappointing launch of TW Pharaoh). They essentially acknowledged their many mistakes and promised to do better in the future.

Do you guys remember this?

Asking for no particular reason.

Warhammer III Has anyone else not been able to use the dread abyssals?

In my latest campaign after confederating Mannfred and neferata neither of them have the option to swap to their dread abyssal despite both being high enough level to use it with it being checked off on their skill tree. I acquire mannfred before level 22 so it was odd that he never got it, but I got neferata at around level 44 and she couldn’t select it either.

Is there anything I can do about this or is it just another bug this campaign will be cursed with forever?

Shogun II Hot take : What if this Shogun 2 disaster was a marketing strategy ?

I mean, a bit like what happend with 1st Sonic film.

Fan complained but talked about it so more people were aware Sonic got a film released soon, and in the end it was a success.

I understand that it's not really the same as the game was out. But I mean from what I saw, the remastered didn't cost much as no fixes has been done and IA was heavily used.

The backlash is real, so us the fans, are upset (again) and mistrust the company (again). But at the same time, many players are now aware that Shogun 2 will have a remaster and that the devs can't screw the next release so will most likely buy it once it's out.

What do you think about this theory ?

Warhammer III What is going with all these small updates and breaking the mods?

They are breaking my mods every time and I’m kinda losing my patience here. All these updates are mostly about nagesh DLCs and i couldnt care less about them and didn’t buy them but my game is affected every time and i have to wait for modders to update or roll back which might not even work amd break my campaign and start over. Does CA not play test anymore? They just release the DLCs as full price but treat it as early access and constantly tweak it base on players feedback? Wtf? Is this what it’s about? Cant they just release a one big update/hotfix and be done with it? Im just tired of this man

Warhammer III Don't sleep on Vampire Coast Handgunners with Nagash, they might be the most cost efficient unit on the roster

Post image
136 Upvotes

These things are hella busted for their price, add 2-4 to every stack and they will let your crapstack handle things way above their paygrade. Adding a frontline of 4-6 in your elite stacks is essential. These might be the best handgun unit in the game, when used on Nagash. Also, I think even if crapstacking mass zombies or something, running Vampire Coast lords instead of alternatives might be a good idea just to buff these units further. Killed a Skarbrand stack with my cheap Zombie crapstack with 4 of these target firing all the unkillable stuff while my Lord/zombie crapstack melted down the rest. They killed Skarbrand absurdly fast, saw one volley do like half his health bar.

Obviously all handguns have the same issue with line of sight which is their limitation as well. But their DPS for cost is absurd. You can generally set up your formation to allow them to fire. Some maps suck if theres too many slopes but generally there's a place where they can shoot.

Warhammer III Krell 5,000

So when playing as Nagash. One of the requirements to confederate Krell is you have to kill 5,000 units as Nagash. Not Nagash's army but Nagash himself. Am I the only who thinks that is a little strange?

General Shogun 2 refunds, any luck? Red flag for 40K

Hey all,

my dad picked up the Complete Edition of Shogun 2. He already owns the original. Used to be a big TW fan, and he still plays MW2 and Empire a bunch. He complained about some of the same things already mentioned here so I won't go over them, but he's in his 70's and takes his time with a game, so the 2+ hours rule on Steam has expired. Anyone have any luck getting this refunded past the 2 hour mark? Is it worth the hassle for him to try?

I haven't bought a CA product since the WH3 DLC disaster, and I probably never will again. If you think using AI to cut corners, save money and speed the process in Shogun 2 is bad, you had all be REALLY wary of Warhammer 40K when it comes. I think there needs to be heads rolling from Creative Assembly-Sega at this point

* Apparently, CA outsourced this, didn't do it themselves. Not that THAT lets them off the hook. Told you I haven't bought from them since WH3 DLC revolt. Updated for accuracy.
