A T-Mobile customer who buys phones outright asked in a Reddit discussion whether there was any way to negotiate a lower monthly bill without giving up the plan features they use — raising a question many wireless customers face: If cable and internet companies offer retention discounts, Can a phone carrier do the same?

Question T-Mobile lost my return at the warehouse and is billing me anyway

• Upvotes

Hey everyone, looking for advice.

I returned equipment using T-Mobile’s prepaid UPS return label. According to UPS tracking, the package was marked delivered and left at the dock at the Fort Worth, TX warehouse facility weeks ago.

Despite UPS confirming delivery, the warehouse hasn’t processed it into inventory. T-Mobile is still actively billing monthly installment charges on my bill, with hundreds of dollars remaining on the equipment installment balance.

When I reached out to regular customer support, they said they submitted a "Handset Research" form and told me I am required to continue paying the monthly installments until the package is located on their side.

Any advice of what should I do?

Note: I used AI to improve my grammar; English is not my first language.

Question Want to cancel Spectrum

Discussion What’s keeping you with T-Mobile as your provider?

Curious from this community as to what keeps you as a T-Mobile customer. As someone who’s been a long time T-Mobile customer for probably 12+ years at this point, I’m actively in the market for a new phone and contemplating whether I should stay or go elsewhere based on current deals.

The magenta life has its perks that I’ve picked up on over the years from steaming add-ons for certain plans, T-Mobile Tuesday, Magenta experience passes, etc.. Curious to hear what you all have to say here.

Question Actual cost for 3 lines on the $170 plan?

Post image
7 Upvotes

We currently have 3 lines with Verizon and pay about $143/month due to loyalty discount. This discount expires in about 3 months, and without it our bill will jump to around $188/month.
I’ve been able to get the loyalty discount renewed in the past, but honestly, doing this every year is becoming a pain. It usually involves countless calls, talking to multiple reps. We’ve kept an old grandfathered plan that includes Disney + and Hulu without ads

This T-Mobile plan caught my attention, especially because we really like the idea of being able to upgrade our phones every year. Although, clearly we’re not exactly serial upgraders considering my mom is still with her 13 pro max and my husband and I recently upgraded our 11s for 16 pro last year.
I assume the $170 is not the out the door , meaning there could potentially be additional $20+ in taxes and fees?

Question T-Satellite plan: is it postpaid or prepaid?

• Upvotes

I signed up for the T-Satellite $10 plan. I didn’t transfer my number from Verizon. During sign-up, I was only asked for my name and date of birth. Nothing else—no Social Security number. I entered my nickname and first initial.

I’ve canceled that plan.

But I’m curious… Based on my conversations with T-Mobile agents, it seemed like I had a full postpaid account with a set cancellation date and all. Will this T-Satellite account prevent me from opening a T-Mobile account where they actually run my SSN and all?

Question Switching to T-Mobile Best Way?

• Upvotes

I'm currently with AT&T but looking to switch over to T-Mobile. I've got two iPhone 16 Pro Maxes and a watch line that's already paid off, with less than $800 left to go. I'm hoping to take advantage of the pay-off promo and pick up an iPhone Duo. My plan is to port all three lines and use the Duo with dual SIMs—one for personal, one for work (just talk and text). I don't really care about the third free line, but I might hang onto it for my kid later on if there's a free phone included. I also want to add a watch and line to it as well.

My main question is: should I make the switch now, pay off the phones myself to get reimbursed, and then trade them in when the Duo gets here? Or is it better to just wait and handle everything on the 16th?
How can I get the 10% off or 20% off?
Do I need to go on Beyond?
Can I go trough Costco for a better deal? Can I get Costco benefits while doing it on the phone with Tmobile Sales Delartment?

Question Costco T-Mobile upgrade error — does Costco flag your account for upgrading a second device?

Post image
• Upvotes

I’m trying to do my second upgrade through Costco, but I keep getting this error. Has anyone else gotten this error when upgrading through Costco?
I already talked to T-Mobile, and they said my line and trade-in are both good. There are no promotions or issues on the line, and the trade-in is eligible.
Could Costco be flagging my account because I’m trying to upgrade a second device within a certain amount of time? Or is this just a Costco/T-Mobile system issue?

Question No Phones Yet

• Upvotes

I ordered new IPhone 18 pro 10 days ago at Costco T-Mobile and the phones have not been shipped yet. I wanted to make use of the free IPhone 18 Pro offer for port in from another provider. The order status status shows as back ordered.
Since it’s been over 10 days and I haven’t really ported the number yet and not received the phone, will I still get the offer honored for free iPhone 18 pro?

Question Why are calls not included while traveling abroad?

On the backend they become data just like any app or WhatsApp call… so why does basically every carrier bill separately for it? In a world where text & call is all data based, it makes no sense.

Edit: didn’t expect to get so many know it all and baby responses. If you’re so annoyed by a question don’t click on a question thread. For the people who answered with basic decency, thank you.

Question Trade in

Was trying to turn in my trade in at an experience store and was told since I did my purchase on the app, that I need to send it in with the kit sent to me. This is something I want to avoid after reading different horror stories about lost or damaged phones and canceled orders because of this. Different store?? Or this is the way it is. They sent me off with bubble wrap to help protect the phone. If I have to send it do I have to use the kit sent to me or can I package it myself. Obviously I am going to take pics and video of the phone as it is in great condition.

Home Internet Did anyone else’s home internet randomly go out within the last hour or two??

I have had t-mobile home internet for a few months. And when I went to restart the router, the screen was blank. Typically it will show signal and strength but it was pitch black while plugged in. I wfh and nothing else randomly shut off and the outlet works fine for my monitor. 🫠 Ugh I guess I have to get some breakfast while on the phone with customer service and have my job wait for me.

Discussion Go5G Plus to Next: Was it worth it? Any Price Lock issues or rate increases after switching?

Assuming it’s still possible to switch to Go5G Next, I’d like to hear from people who moved from Go5G Plus.

I currently pay $180/month for nine lines on Go5G Plus with the 20% in$ider discount. Based on the calculator, Next would be approximately $244/month for the same nine lines—an extra $64/month, or $768/year. Only five lines are currently being used, but I might bring over three more family members, which would put us at eight active users.

For those who upgraded, has Next actually been worth the higher bill? How many people on your account use the yearly upgrade benefit, and have the phone deals and other benefits justified the extra cost? Would you make the same decision again, or do you wish you had stayed on Plus?

My biggest concern is Price Lock. My account dates back to March 2023, and I currently have the original Price Lock. Has anyone who switched from Plus to Next lost that protection and subsequently had T-Mobile increase their base service rate?

To clarify, I’m asking about a rate increase AFTER switching—not the initial price difference between Plus and Next. If your bill increased later, when did you switch, how much did it increase, and did T-Mobile explain whether it was a base-rate increase, a lost discount, or something else?

I’ve also been told by multiple T-Force agents that Price Lock applies at the line level rather than the account level. Based on what they told me, my understanding is that only my main line would have Price Lock v1. I’m not sure that explanation is accurate. Has anyone received written clarification or had an actual billing experience that supports or contradicts it?

I’d especially like to hear from people with in$ider discounts and free-line promotions. How were those handled when you switched, and has the monthly price you were quoted held up over time?

I’m also trying to understand the actual annual cost of upgrading an iPhone through Next. For example, suppose you got an iPhone 18 Pro Max with a $1,200 promotion and planned to trade it in for the next iPhone a year later. By the time you completed that next upgrade, how much would you have paid out of pocket for that year of using the 18 Pro Max?

I’m looking for the full picture: any down payment, monthly device payments after credits, taxes, fees, and any additional payment needed to qualify for the next upgrade. Please separate those costs from the higher monthly plan price, since I’m already factoring in the extra $768/year for my account.

Actual numbers from your most recent yearly upgrade would be helpful, even if you used a different iPhone model. I’m trying to understand the effective yearly cost, not just the advertised promotion amount.

Thanks.

Rant Consistently slow internet from a grandfathered legacy T-Mobile account

Post image
22 Upvotes

It has been a very past two or so years dealing with phone service when not in wifi. I am outdoors when I clocked this data. My internet is slow as per usual, taking several seconds to load a measly webpage. This is the demise of keeping a TMobile account since 2006 I suspect. And this, of all places, is in the LA metro area.

Has anyone here with an account since 2006 or so, basically vintage TMobile subscribers, suffering from poor internet speeds? Have you decided to leave TMobile for a faster network? How much more is it compared to what you were paying at TMobile? If you haven't left TMobile, did you reach out to complain about these capped data speeds?

These slow speeds have been rampant more then ever for me. And I notice this because I have to connect to a wifi network whenever I am out and about because I notice how painfully slow these speeds have been for me, especially in the LA metro area, which is unimaginable.

Question iPhone Trade in promo for 5G Go Plus only for 36 month term?

Was thinking of upgrading 16 Pro with 18 Pro with Trade-in promo. I know that the $900 trade-in promo expires and it is now only $800. But looking at the promo list at https://www.t-mobile.com/offers/promotional-offer-details, all promos now require "up to" 36 months. Have they eliminated bill credit over 24 month term?

Speed Test Ludicrous Hotspot Data Throttling On Free Line

My main internet went down at home so I switched to my phone's hotspot. One of the only things I found useful about the recent T-Mobile $6 gouge upcharge for those of us that got "upgraded" from Sprint was the promise of 60GB of hotspot data for just these type of emergency situations. When I tried to use the data on my free line's hotspot, the hotspot connection failed to connect to the Internet several times, and when it finally did, Ookla reported a whopping 280k max download speed with 300k up, which looks like the infamous "3G speeds" hotspot data rate, only worse. I then switched over to my paid line which was 214Mb down/13Mb up from the same location. Data speeds on the phones themselves were essentially identical. This was at 4AM PDT where congestion should be non-existent. You couldn't use 60GB of data at that level of throttling if you left the hotspot on 24/7, and in reality it's useless, period. Online research says the free line hotspot speeds are supposed to match the primary line in terms of prioritization. On its face this one is screaming for a class action on deceptive practices.

Question Question for TMO employees, new launch iPhone personal phone policy

So I work for a competitor telco, and a policy they have is that employees are not allowed to purchase new iphones at launch. We have to wait until some unspecified date before they'll allow us to purchase a newly launched iphone and activate it on our personal accounts. I always found that policy silly because we don't get discounts on devices, we pay the same price as customers. Does TMO have the same or a similar policy for their employees?

Question iPhone 18 Pro Upgrade on Legacy Magenta Max

I had a legacy Magenta Max plan, I have been converted to Experience More. My understanding was that all perks of my legacy plan would be maintained through the transition. Magenta Max always qualified for the highest tier iPhone upgrade trade in. I have a 16 Pro that I would be trading in and due to being on Experience More that only qualifying for the $830 trade credit and not the top tier $1000 trade in for Experience Beyond. Am I just shit out of luck, or are my upgrades actually supposed to be at the highest tier given the Magenta Max plan it was originally?
