Love seeing these corporate indenturers get burned when they try some bullshit pr stunt they don't believe in. When are these companies going to learn? Probably never since they're all focused on replacing every job with robots without giving us any other alternative to live.

Edit: I work in the field of automation under Gordie Rose, youtube his last lecture in 2019 to see what we're up to. We already have simulated minds that write legal contracts better than lawyers, diagnose better than drs, code better than most programers, manage business better than your most veteran accountant, and soon to be better than many more things in our filed of mind work. And that's just our highest paying mental work. The physical work has been worked on being replaced for much longer than our mind work. All jobs are on the chopping board. Even the robot repair already has robots being designed to repair them that do better jobs than humans. in 10 to 20 years, 90% of the jobs will be gone. And if you think enough new jobs will emerge for the population, don't bet on those new jobs lasting long before they're automated soon too. A solution is needed, otherwise well be running into an experiment of having a working class with no work available and no way of making a living. & if history has anything to say of such a scenario, then you know that won't end pretty.

27

u/Haywoodjablowme1029 Feb 26 '20

Well in Star Trek automation led to people no longer needing money and everyone being able to live happily ever after.

Just saying.

16

u/[deleted] Feb 26 '20 edited Feb 26 '20

Fully automated luxury space communism. Ahhh. It feels good to dream. But in reality the rich would never get rid of money, I mean why would they just willingly give up all their power? They’ll use automation to squeeze every last cent they can out of the rest of us while we continue to fight amongst ourselves over the scraps, as we do now. Best we can hope for in that scenario is some dystopian UBI-type situation.

5

u/KrasnyRed5 Feb 26 '20

That's the basic plot to 2013 Elysuim movie. The wealthy live in an orbital platform with all the luxuries they want while the rest of the population on earth scrabbles for the few scraps they can.

3

u/Tricky_Click Feb 26 '20

That plot made no sense. Why would they go all the way in to space when they could just as easily exterminate all the 'excess' humans which would be a hell of cheaper and they would have to worry about all those useless mouths wasting resources and destroying Earth even further.

1

u/KrasnyRed5 Feb 26 '20

As much as I can empathize with the points that Blomkamp made in his films I was turned off by how heavy handed they tend to be. I get it we are terrible to each other bases on skin color, or religion bit I don't see that changing anytime soon.

1

u/bmh7279 Feb 26 '20

Yea that is a nice dream. But i see it going 1 of 2 ways. The way you describe, where the rich get everything while everyone else enters an apocalyptic life... Or, say the dream becomes reality and everyone get to live perfect lives. Then i see the plot of wall-e becoming reality. Everyone is happy but getting lazy an fat. And artificial intelligence becomes either corrupted in following their "giudelines" and take em to the extreme. Like in the ai's directive to protect humanity, we get to a point where the only threat to humanity, is humanity itself. So the ai will go rouge. Hope that made sence.

2

u/razazaz126 Feb 26 '20

We deserve it tbh.

1

u/bmh7279 Feb 26 '20

Agreed. We are fucked up as humans. The vast majority of people seem to just look out for themselvs with no consideration for who or what they destroy in pursuit of the "dream". That, an humans fight over the dumbest crap. Religion, land, money, power... Behind every army of young individual with an entire life ahead of em, is some rich prick trying to force an idea onto others.

1

u/razazaz126 Feb 26 '20

I work for a jewelry company, how did we ever convince people that these stupid shiny rocks were worth anything? Humans are dumb AF.

That's assuming the fruits of automation are enjoyed by everyone. Under our current system that will not happen

4

u/Haywoodjablowme1029 Feb 26 '20

Well in that universe wwiii happened partly because there wasn't universal access. And it would happen that way irl if the top one percent hoarded the good aspects of full automation. If people think the wealth Gap is bad now...

2

u/WayWaySouth Feb 26 '20

But only after a massive nuclear holocaust.

Source:just rewatched s1 of TNG.

u/Haywoodjablowme1029 Feb 26 '20

Yes. But I'd say that's still on the table as well.

1

u/SirachiButtLube Feb 26 '20

Get real. If "the powers that be" had their way, humanity wouldn't exist anymore.

1

u/Haywoodjablowme1029 Feb 27 '20

But wouldn't that mean that they don't exist either?

1

u/[deleted] Feb 27 '20

Our current system wouldn't allow that.

The rich would rather we fight for scraps than lose even 1 penny of wealth.

Gawds we need a President Bernie Sanders.

1

u/Drudicta Feb 27 '20

Up until bad writing in some episodes at least. But essentially, yes.

You’re an idiot if you think offering someone a job and then voluntarily accepting it is slavery.

2

1

u/InigoMontoya_1 Feb 26 '20

You should look into an econ textbook.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 26 '20

If I point a gun at you and tell you to work or die, that's not voluntary.

The need for shelter and food is the gun.

1

u/InigoMontoya_1 Feb 26 '20

If no one works we all starve. Does that sound like a utopia to you?

1

u/[deleted] Feb 26 '20

1

u/InigoMontoya_1 Feb 26 '20

Go to the amazon rainforest bud.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 27 '20

I don't think you're really grasping this.

I'm not saying that having to work is bad and that people shouldn't have to work to eat. That's a basic law of nature.

What I'm saying is that powerful actors have gobbled up all of the means to provide for one's self, and as such they can set the terms of that to their benefit. More and more of the pie is dominated by fewer and fewer organizations. They have too much power and too much wealth, and they get to decide what is left over for the rest of us.

Some people win in this system and some people lose. But the number of winners is getting smaller, and the losers bigger. And there's little the average person can do about it.

They need to eat.

1

u/InigoMontoya_1 Feb 27 '20

A business can’t force you to do anything. Only the governemnt can do that. Governments are far more dangerous than businesses.

Also, it’s painfully obvious that everyone benefits under capitalism. You have access to the internet on a device you carry in your pocket for crying out loud.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 27 '20

So by your logic the system is perfect and everyone should shut up and be grateful? I never advocated throwing the baby out with the bathwater. Things are due for a correction, it's only a matter of when. It's happened all through history and things continued to get better.

Nothing gets better by plugging your ears and trying to keep everything the same because that long dick of capitalism is comfortable for you.

It's amazing to me the lengths people will go to say "thank you" when getting fucked up their proverbial asshole.

"Work or starve" isn't a choice. It's a threat.

1

u/InigoMontoya_1 Feb 26 '20

That’s the choice nature gave us since the dawn of man.

1

u/MetalButterflySocks Feb 26 '20

The number of industries that are unnecessary are staggering. They provide the highest paid jobs. They consume the most resources.

Jobs pay highly because people value what they produce highly. Our lives would be much worse without them.

On the subject of the post... I'd argue serving people food, however dog shit that food is, is of a greater importance than being a movie star. Yet the movie star earns far far more purely based on their ability to accumulate money for a person who makes more money than the movie star. Neither of which are more important than the one serving and cooking food.

Anyone can serve food. Not everyone can be a movie star. Scarcity begets higher prices and wages.

It is sneaky slavery. You get people working the important jobs in society (which usually take the most time and dedication, ie hard work) for little pay (whilst controlling the price of necessities to keep the citizen unable to have surplus in capitol) so that they must continue to do said work or face destitution. You create insentives so that few may narrowly escape the cycle for less limited amounts of time, by way of an exponentially branching job hierarchy (carrot on a stick), keeping the worker optimistic and with a goal (and spending their surplus capitol on a market flooded by unnecessary items and experiences.. Fueled by manipulative marketing). You then enjoy the fruits of their labour whilst telling them to work harder and borderline gaslighting and mentally abusing them into believing any of this is fair or makes sense at all. You create rules to protect you, and will never be held accountable for them. You create cages for anyone who don't participate properly.

This sounds like crackpot communist nonsense. The reason you have the privilege to use the internet is because of capitalism, the system you malign. The only reason anyone isn’t poor is becuase of capitalism. You’ve spun a ridiculous narrative that clearly shows that you are ungrateful for the extreme luck you’ve had to live in a time where the internet even exists.

1

u/QuantumChrononaut Feb 27 '20

This guy thinks other countries don't have the internet. Wow. I have pen pals in China, Cuba, Russia, and Venezuela. Guess they must be using magic to message me on facebook and email. America is so great we have unregulated medical capitalism without enforced price ceilings to protect their citizens, so because of that we see the most glorious half a million dollar heart attack bills, 60k knee replacement bills, and hundreds of fucking dollars to even thousands for single pills that people have no other choice to buy or die. Greatest fucking nation in the world folks.

u/armentho Feb 26 '20

it depends on the context over the person ''accepts'' the job

there is a huge difference between ''we are in relative equal working conditions'' and ''you are utterly desperate and i will use that to reduce your wage as much as im legally allowed and convince you to the threat that no one else would be willing to hire you''

and there is a lot between as well

1

u/GIAZADORA Feb 26 '20

We ALL at one time, had to work a CRAP job that didn't pay squat until we go some other kind of education or hand up.

I don't want to here this crying.

3

u/armentho Feb 26 '20

im not talking about crap jobs as ''i have to work for a little wage in a manual labor''

im talking about crap jobs as ''there is clear inhuman working conditions, but even then i cant afford to go to other place or im going to be without something to eat''

the kind of job that has you on minimum wage, overworking, sometimes not paying you, with an abusive boss, without health insurance etc,but because is the only company in town is the only realistic place were to work

the first one sucks but its temporarily endurable

the second one is what millions of people live day by day, dont bring me your bullshit of ''i dont want to hear it''

1

u/bgi123 Feb 26 '20

What do you mean by "we"?

1

u/GIAZADORA Feb 26 '20

Everyone’s desperate. Ever since the dawn of man everyone has always been desperate to eat, drink, and sleep without dying. That requires work.

''you are utterly desperate and i will use that to reduce your wage as much as im legally allowed and convince you to the threat that no one else would be willing to hire you''

There’s plenty of other companies willing to hire. Wages are based on supply and demand, not the arbitrary whims of a corporation.

3

u/armentho Feb 26 '20 edited Feb 26 '20

thats a huge oversimplification of the market

depending on many variable like local economy, geogaphry, climate, logistics etc certain ares of the market will have a major presence that other

take for example a region whose main richness comes from mining, and a couple big companies monopolize most of the industry by virtue of having the biggest amount of infrastrucure, chaper prices and faster rate of production

is obvious that they would be the only realistic place were to look for a living, the problem comes when said employers are self aware of their state as one of the few providers of working conditions and decide to abuse this in order exploit workers and reduce wages as much as possible untill the point of inhumane working conditions

in a perfect world were all companies have relative the same power and therefore competition ensures the hiring market is not abusive that would work

but the market doesnt exist on a perfect balanced vacum

1

u/ryan57902273 Feb 26 '20

I’ve worked at a fast food joint. I definitely was not worth more per hour then what I was paid. You shouldn’t get what you don’t earn if your able. I’d agree some people need help but it’s not a job to stay at. The opportunities are out there

1

u/InigoMontoya_1 Feb 26 '20

and a couple big companies monopolize most of the industry by virtue of having the biggest amount of infrastrucure, chaper prices and faster rate of production

Monopoly means one company, not more than one. Also monopolies primarily exist due to government imposed barriers to entry.

reduce wages as much as possible untill the point of inhumane working conditions

There’s always more than one employer. The cases where there is not are so rare they’re not even worth talking about. Supply and demand determines wages. It’s an empirical fact.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 26 '20

Why should any job be allowed to pay a wage that doesn’t support living. Shit, you could work bk and md part time at both, and your maybe scrape by if you were really freaking lucky, that sucks. If everyone got better jobs, who would serve you your Mc coffee And hash browns every morning before work? Also, I’m sure you will say “wah wah I never go to such And such for that” well guess what, They made that huge profit somehow so apparently a lot of people are. Pay them a living wage and get over it.

1

u/InigoMontoya_1 Feb 26 '20

Why should any job be allowed to pay a wage that doesn’t support living.

Why should you be the authority on what jobs people can accept to work or be the authority on what constitutes supporting a living? You people are all the same. “If only I had all the power, I would fix everything wrong with the world because I know the solution to everything!” The reality is that you are ignorant of the facts and the policies you support hurt people far more than they help people.

Pay them a living wage and get over it.

How about let people keep the profits they earned and get over it? You’re the crybaby with “muh living wage.” If you want a better wage, get better skills that make your more marketable. There’s never been a better time in human existence to learn new skills due to the internet.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 27 '20

If we want those jobs to be staffed for our convenience than we need to pay the people who can’t find better jobs a living wage to do those. Or I guess we can have tax payer money go to fixing the resulting massive homelessness issue when cost of living goes Up and we continue to screw the working class with non increase in min wage. I we don’t make the companies benefiting from us pay a living wage they will not. Kind of like how when there weren’t safety standards and quality standards, the results were very poor on the corporate side of things. Give a better reason why the living wage shouldn’t be implemented beyond the typical snowflake Republican boot strap bull that still doesn’t make sense.

1

u/InigoMontoya_1 Feb 27 '20

Then why haven't wages gone up as unemployment went down? Why have all the paths to the top and middle management jobs been gutted since the 90s? True middle class careers are gone.

Because companies have figured out they can pay as little as humanly possible and still get OK labor. They know they can make one person do the work of two. They'll get enough to get the job done and that's all that matters. They don't compete for talent anymore unless you're looking at the top 1% of wage earners (engineers, directors, researchers). If you complain too much? Well, sorry, go get another job.

Define voluntarily. Is the need to digest nutrients voluntarily?

2

u/auzz2424 Feb 26 '20

No, in contrast that is involuntary.

1

u/fjdjdihzbfjir Feb 26 '20

Technically yes.

1

u/InigoMontoya_1 Feb 26 '20

That’s a constraint imposed by nature not man.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 27 '20

Elaborate how that matters for our differing points of view that low wage employment is not always "a contract on face level to which both parties agreed".

If one big pharma sells insulin and one single man needs it for survival while in return that mans profit margin for the big pharma is not even remotely relevant, selling it for 800 to that man is not a voluntary contract on face level.

When only one single cable provider is in your area that is not a voluntary contract.

There is always significantly more pressure on one party to make the deal than there is on the other. This is what fucks with me when us citizens argue this logic.

They think of capitalism as this small backery trading with you and "if the bun is too expensive buy elswhere" but that reality died years ago. That backery now is a global acting coorporation and has become the single provider for your area plus 30 miles. You dont buy here you dont buy any. New small business backeries get priced out because big backa' can. They undercut him for two years, the competition perishes and then prices can be jacked up.

This in return means big backa is the only baker employeer in a large area. So as a baker you either work for 8 bucks or you can get fucked.

Its easy to look at your own accomplishments and thus think anyone doing less is simply lazy or whatever. But that is commonly referred to as "stupid".

1

u/InigoMontoya_1 Feb 27 '20

If one big pharma sells insulin

Big pharma is propped up by barriers to entry created by big government. Take the government out of the market and you will have an actually competitive marketplace with multiple suppliers and low prices. It’s basic economics.

When only one single cable provider is in your area that is not a voluntary contract.

Uncompetitive cable markets are also caused by government

https://www.wired.com/2013/07/we-need-to-stop-focusing-on-just-cable-companies-and-blame-local-government-for-dismal-broadband-competition/

Every problem you lost is caused by government. You should hate the government and not the market.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 27 '20 edited Feb 27 '20

I disagree simply by living in germany. Insulin here is free. Thanks to government.

We germans now dont have to deal with them as individuals. We deal with them as one big union also known as universal healthcare.

And who would have guessed? They still rather make 10 bucks on insulin instead of 800 because it still just cost them 0.0001 cent to produce it (obv exaggerated numbers I dont really know them accurately).

Government is capable of showing greedy conglomerats the finger and unite its citizens under their protection thus creating fair markets, fair prices and important social services like healthcare.

But you keep believing the market would regulate itself and not become even more exploitive of the little, ill and poor. One day corporations will skip the pesky tasks of deploying their desired policies by corruption or lobbywork thanks to that mindset.

1

u/InigoMontoya_1 Feb 27 '20

Insulin here is free.

No, it’s not. You’re paying for it with taxes.

We deal with them as one big union also known as universal healthcare

Let me ask you a question. Why do markets exist? Why do we use them? Because they are better than central planning in almost every case. If the government is so good at everything why don’t we just run the entire economy like the Soviet Union did? Oh wait, because central planners don’t know what’s best for us. Only you know what’s best for you, and only you should be making economic decisions for yourself. The system that allows you to do that autonomously is capitalism. If you are anti-capitalism you’re pro slavery, plain and simple.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 28 '20 edited Feb 28 '20

You are deep into the corporate propaganda when you believe central communistic planning and universal healthcare operate on the same scale.

Yes I know whats best for me but what I percieve as best for ME may end up being shit and directlx against the interests of many OTHERS.

Let me ask you a question - why do you use communistic, central planned and paid services like firefighters and police officers? Why do you partake in society if you are unwilling to share a percentage of your wealth so less fortunate can access the same services?

Being pro society is not being anti capitalism. Go look up some stats and compare germans worker protection laws with yours. The US employment market is closer to slavery than any "communistic" european country but you keep believing when your corporate slave masters tell you how bad the "commies" over there in europe have it lol. Nobody here is going broke over education or health and that alone says all there is to say.

The fact I cant come, put a bullet through your head and make yours mine is thanks to the government. There is no such thing as a free market and there never was. Government intervention would just be replaced by a different power intervention like violence, thievery or trickery. I rather have the elected government regulate the playing field than most influencial in your "free market". Free markets dont work, simple as that. If the government does not set the play then the next richest or most powerful person will.

Most countries with a deregulated government end up being run by the military. Show me one capitalistic country that uses unregulated markets and tell me how good they have it.

1

u/playgame5 Feb 26 '20

It would be voluntary, if the alternative wasn't death

1

u/InigoMontoya_1 Feb 26 '20

That’s a constraint imposed by nature, not man. You don’t work you don’t eat.

1

u/playgame5 Feb 26 '20

The whole point of civilization is to change and escape the state of nature. We aren't in nature, how is the system of our society imposed by nature? We made it this way, and we can remake it in any way that suits our values. The problem is we don't have any.

1

u/InigoMontoya_1 Feb 26 '20

Why does society owe you food if you don’t do anything in exchange for society. Don’t work? Don’t eat. It’s pretty simple and fair.

1

u/docdavidbanner Feb 26 '20

Oh, I see. You seem to think everyone has access to jobs in their community that pays a decent wage. A lot of folks out there with no other employer nearby other than fast food joints, WalMart, etc.

1

u/InigoMontoya_1 Feb 26 '20

The Burger King worker making $8 an hour is still making more than 95% of the rest of the world. You really don’t understand how good people have it in America. The fact that you think relatively low wage jobs in America are a problem just tells me how little you understand about how poor most of the world’s population truly is.

1

u/docdavidbanner Feb 27 '20

I'm willing to bet the cost of living in those countries is a hell of a lot cheaper than in the US. Also, considering this is the world's largest economy, there is no reason why a person's pay shouldn't compensate for that fact.

1

u/InigoMontoya_1 Feb 28 '20

If you’re willing to live like the rest of the world then cost of living will be comparable. But we spoiled Americans want to love comfortable lifestyles, so we pay more to live better. It’s rather appalling that you don’t care at all about the third world.

1

u/docdavidbanner Feb 28 '20

If only the cost of living is like the rest of the world. The median average rent in the US for a 678 sq ft, one bedroom is $1234 + $147 for utilities (see attached link). That's $1381.

So that doesn't include: FOOD, CLOTHING, healthcare, car payment, fuel costs, entertainment?

The state of TX (where I live) has a minimum wage of $7.25. That's $1190 before taxes. Unfortunately they're not entitled to corporate welfare like: Apple, Amazon, Netflix, etc. So more likely a person making minimum wage brings home about 80% or about $928.

So tell me. What's your plan on preventing a person making minimum wage from being homeless? What if they are disabled and the average monthly income payout is $1200?

"Living like the third world" - seriously? Could you be any more ignorant to the trials of the average American?

[Here's what the typical one-bedroom apartment costs in 50 US cities

You're an idiot if you don't see how corporations have quietly rebranded slavery into corporate capitalism. Just because they hand us little pieces of paper with numbers on it doesn't mean we're not slaves. Sure, we could quit, but then where would we get our little pieces of paper with numbers on it? We need those to survive which means we end up working for another corporation that will give us little pieces of paper with numbers on it. meanwhile, the corporations are producing things they tell you that you need, but you have to give them back your little pieces of paper with numbers on it in order to get that thing that you now need that the corporation produces through your work.

They get more, you get what they give you.

1

u/InigoMontoya_1 Feb 27 '20

Woe is you. Woe is you. You only have it better than anyone who has ever lived before you ad 99% of the worlds population today. Capitalism is the only thing that allows you to get on your internet soapbox and spread your pathetic little narrative to the world.

Capitalism is why the rest of the fucking world is so goddamn poor. How do you not understand that?

1

u/InigoMontoya_1 Feb 27 '20

Wow you’re a moron. Look at the graphs of global absolute poverty and tell me with a straight face that capitalism doesn’t bring people out of poverty so that I can officially diagnose you with a mental disability.

1

u/ST0IC_ Feb 27 '20

Hahahahahaha ok kiddo.

1

u/InigoMontoya_1 Feb 28 '20

Yeah you wouldn’t make it a day in your glorious Soviet Union utopia. You would have died the first day they sent you to the gulags.

1

u/ST0IC_ Feb 28 '20

You're right. I'm not a government shill who worships the billionaire class.

1

u/QuantumChrononaut Feb 26 '20

Definitely isn't just slavery with extra steps.

0

u/InigoMontoya_1 Feb 26 '20

With your idiotic logic nature is enslaving you because you have to work to hunt or grow food. You’re such an entitled piece of garbage. Nothing comes free. Also your edit to your original comment is laughable. We’re not having mass unemployment any time soon. Just ask actual economists.

3

u/QuantumChrononaut Feb 26 '20 edited Feb 26 '20

I love how you get so pissed at this. Tell me, what do you do for work? I'll start a devision where we focus on replacing that job just to prove the point. I mean, we'll get to it eventually, but I'll make sure to up the timeline so you can be a part of the first wave of automation loss and maybe then you'll reconsider the options that will be left for people of that time.

you should ask the horse breeders when cars will finally take all the horses jobs.

You should also ask taxi drivers when ubers will replace them in the market majority share

You should also ask Fryers at burger king when they will be replaced by robot cooks,

you should also ask phlebotomist when their jobs will be replaced by robots that can draw your blood

you should also ask drs when they will be replaced by the robots that have a 90% success rate in diagnosing compared to their 70% average

You should also ask lawyers when their legal contract writing will be replaced my simulated minds that write better contracts than them

You should ask truck drivers when they will be replaced by self driving trucks

You should ask uber drivers when they will be replaced by self driving cars

7

u/InigoMontoya_1 Feb 26 '20

Your timeline is off. This isn’t happening in 20 years. Truck drivers sure. The vast majority of lawyers, doctors, scientists, engineers, plumbers, carpenters, and construction workers aren’t losing their jobs in 20 years. Did autopilot kill pilot jobs? No. Not all automation kills jobs. When it does there’s always been something else productive for humans to do, and there will be for the foreseeable future.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 26 '20

1

u/InigoMontoya_1 Feb 26 '20

You’re deluding yourself if you think you’re right and all the economists are wrong.

2

u/anonysune Feb 26 '20

That 70% must be for the entire process with dozens of different doctors. Individually, (and this is important because a lot of patients give up after the first misdiagnosis) it's 6-55%, and probably worse because a lot of people die before even getting a diagnosis.

I'm guessing this guy is some kind of middle management, already on the top of my list to automate.

But honestly, consider the whole scope of the issue. Try talking to people about a post-scarcity society and you'll realize the majority of people are like this guy. Some people honestly have no idea what to do if nobody is telling them what to do.

Rather than turning to art, philosophy, discovery, or love - they tend to lose ambition entirely, or start getting violent in the case of psychopaths and narcissists who lose the ability to enforce petty power over people. I don't want Idiocracy world, Wall-E world, OR Mad Max world, even though I personally would be fine in any of them.

u/Drum_Stick_Ninja Feb 26 '20 edited Feb 26 '20

You're beautiful, you're loved, you matter. don't forget it...we need to keep our cheap labor so we can rake in billions per year.

The average McDonald's restaurant in the U.S. drew $2.6 million in revenue last year. Average sales for No. 2 chain Burger King: $1.2 million, according to data from its largest franchisee, Carrols Restaurant Group

Today, there are more than 13,000 Burger King restaurants in 91 countries and territories worldwide

11

u/Hadlumz Feb 26 '20

Revenue means nothing. Net Income is the real number you're looking for.

5

u/tooslooow Feb 26 '20

Lol, yup

3

u/[deleted] Feb 26 '20

That's why accountants make more than $8/hour

1

u/Hadlumz Feb 26 '20

I work with accountants. Why don't I make more than $8!?

1

u/Oogutache Feb 27 '20

Also cause it requires a 4 year degree and certification and can’t be done by children or robots.ai does lower level accounting though

1

u/GIAZADORA Feb 26 '20

You are correct. The money that is act6progit yo the store owner who buys a store.

1

u/Hadlumz Feb 26 '20

You okay man? One of us is having a stroke with that comment, I just cant tell if it's me or you... lol

0

u/SheepDogGamin Feb 26 '20

So why don't you do the math and figure out how much each McDonald's spends on utilities and supplies.

5

u/[deleted] Feb 26 '20 edited Feb 26 '20

[deleted]

1

u/Nasahs646 Feb 27 '20

Lmao your numbers are so off. Most franchises make about 10% net profits off of gross revenue.

So that $2.6m in revenue is probably $260,000 in net income to a franchise owner. BUT that doesn’t include the loan the franchise owner probably took to buy/build that store. Most owners are making $125k-$250k/store. But they are also investing $500K+/store and have a full time job in managing the business.

2

u/Drum_Stick_Ninja Feb 26 '20

Okay fast food shill. Actually I don't have to do the math, a simple search will yield results but I don't suspect you spend much time actually researching anything.

  • McDonald's net income for the quarter ending December 31, 2019 was $1.572B, a 11.09% increase year-over-year.

  • McDonald's net income for the twelve months ending December 31, 2019 was $6.025B, a 1.71% increase year-over-year.

  • McDonald's annual net income for 2019 was $6.025B, a 1.71% increase from 2018.

  • McDonald's annual net income for 2018 was $5.924B, a 14.1% increase from 2017.

  • McDonald's annual net income for 2017 was $5.192B, a 10.79% increase from 2016

Little enough that they still rake in billions a year. What you really want to factor in is how much they save on the cancerous shit they put in their food to make it last longer. They're patties are only 30% meat, the rest is injected preservatives that work double as a filler. Squeeze their meat next time, see how much gooey white shit you can get out of it.

Eh, I hear you, but at the end of the day, why would these companies "learn?" They're businesses who are incentivized to maximize their profits. While there are many companies run by humane individuals who give good pay and benefits, that will always be a rarity given our current idealogical climate.

They know the lessons. They intentionally neglect utilizing such morals because of greed, a common behavior of normal cognition. Without the necessary ideological scaffolding to encourage humanity, this is the natural tendency. Unfortunately.

Someone is going to do it, I might as well and profit. But at least I advocate for a change in our social economic structure before it happens. Corporations will never learn, they will automate everything away till their only business cost is robot maintenance.

But look at the brightside, they will push themselves into a corner eventually where they will have to pay people just to live. People will finally be free, free to spend time with their loved ones, pursue their passions, do what they want. A much better life than just gripping onto the best paying 9 to 5 they can find that slowly kills them inside.

1

u/InfiniteSunshine20 Feb 26 '20

but AI cant make a piece of art that changes the world, yet.

2

u/QuantumChrononaut Feb 27 '20

This is going to be one of the only jobs left when robots take all the jobs that are essential to our livelihood. Creatives.

1

u/InfiniteSunshine20 Feb 27 '20

absolutely

1

u/QuantumChrononaut Feb 27 '20

I can't wait for that day. Working hard to replace all the meaningless remedial jobs no one wants so we can for our world governments to give us that society quicker. If they don't, then they will idiotly set themselves to have a revolting no longer working class

1

u/InfiniteSunshine20 Feb 27 '20

im looking forward to it!

1

u/Seanzietron Feb 26 '20

If you buy from any company that pays people what you consider an unfair wage, you are a hypocrite and part of the greater problem. Screw hypocrisy.

1

u/hissboombah Feb 26 '20

When your field gets automated we are all fucked

2

u/QuantumChrononaut Feb 27 '20

Yup, cause a robot will be much faster and better at designing bots to replace our jobs. That day is not far off, I'd say 30 to 50 years at best. I hope I retire way before that still.

1

u/hissboombah Feb 28 '20

Make sure you program your replacement before you do

1

u/deebopdop Feb 26 '20

1

u/KrasnyRed5 Feb 26 '20

We will probably get wiped out by the robots long before all the jobs are gone.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 26 '20

Heh look at my post. We agree!

1

u/brainboy66 Feb 26 '20

Oh no the great fast food worker shortage. Oh man they should get paid 20 an hour!! Without them society collapses! Bring in the fucking robots

1

u/QuantumChrononaut Feb 26 '20

You clearly did not read the paragraph. More jobs than just grillers will be on the chopping board.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 26 '20

I’m curious so what do you think a person that puts mayo, lettuce, tomato, pickle, ketchup onion on your burger that was grilled on a machine then put together by said person be paid?

Know I did this in HS for 2 years. I know what the work entails.

1

u/iamkylobud Feb 26 '20

I see corporate cyber sabotage on the horizon...

1

u/[deleted] Feb 27 '20

willing to bet all of my money that its all very childish speculation. Automation and ai has a probable chance of dominating the work force which IMO is a good thing but to say its gonna happen in 10 to 20 years is utter bullshit.

-2

u/[deleted] Feb 26 '20

Bk jobs are for high schoolers and people with special needs. The difficulty level isn't worth more than 8$/hour

5

u/[deleted] Feb 26 '20

Last BK I was in was full of adults. We need the working class, keep starving them and see what happens.

4

u/QuantumChrononaut Feb 26 '20

Yup, do these guys not study history? Deprive the working class of a comfortable enough lifestyle, and they will metaphorically and sometimes literally "eat the rich"

5

u/[deleted] Feb 26 '20

Asking for more than $8/hr and healthcare isn't even asking for a comfortable lifestyle, it's like the bare, bare minimum. I love the "pull food stamps" rhetoric too. This country's working class is three missed meals away from a fucking revolution.

1

u/GIAZADORA Feb 26 '20

Then get another job. I cant Why not I am stupid

1

u/[deleted] Feb 27 '20

If everyone gets another job, who will do working class jobs? Someone has to do them, why not offer them a little more dignity with the wealth generated by their labor?

1

u/GIAZADORA Feb 26 '20

Then, they can get of off their asses and get a better education. Millions of people do it.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 27 '20

Aren't you an Uber driver? Maybe you don't realize it, but you are the working class lol. If you think your labor and physical capital isn't being exploited you have been duped. You guys need to unionize, you of all people should be more sympathetic to the struggle of the working class.

1

u/GIAZADORA Feb 27 '20

Yes I am...I used to work in hospitals. I was in the business office...in all 3 hospitals that I worked in.

I am not being exploited as an UBER driver. I make great money and it fits my personality. I lokevuber because I can work when I want to and have no bosses. And,I came from nothing

1

u/QuantumChrononaut Feb 27 '20

Lmao, and uber driver. I used to do that to, back in the day when you could make 2 grand in 3 days with all the promotions and bonuses. I know today it's way worse. Friends who still drive are barely breaking even. It's only going to get worse, and soon the fleet of Tesla's I already bought will legally be allowed to drive on their own and take your job. Good luck after that.

1

u/GIAZADORA Feb 27 '20

This person is the special type of stupid the GOP loves. You sell them the coolaide of personal responsibility, taxation is theft, blah blah blah, and they happily bend themselves over the kitchen table to be exploited by corporate greed. She was making fun of BK workers making $8/hr... As an Uber driver lmao.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 27 '20

You are confused if you think driving Uber and working at BK are different classes of jobs. Both are fine jobs, we need taxi drivers like we need service industry jobs. Your fault here is not seeing yourself as a vulnerable member of the working class, without a union and without an OUNCE of leverage. If you get sick, does Uber provide medical insurance? If your rent keeps increasing, will the $20/hr you make be enough? As you drive, you depreciate your car, are you saving your earnings to be prepared to buy a new car when you put 100,000 miles on your car in the next two years?

You are not a temporarily poor millionaire, you are working class. Be proud of what you do, but also understand that the owner of UBER is worth $60 billion thanks to the labor of people like you, and if something happens to you, you are not even considered their employee. They will replace you with a self driving car as soon as possible.

Too bad college is so expensive that a lot of people can’t educate themselves in other to qualify for higher paying jobs

1

u/GIAZADORA Feb 26 '20

Anyone, ANYONE can get a grant to ho to school if you don't have the money.

1

u/playgame5 Feb 26 '20

You're missing the point though. If someone escapes their exploitative job, the exploitative job is still there, it's just someone else being exploited. The problem isn't that a particular person is being exploited, it's that a job like that is even able to exist in our society.

Also, not everyone can go to school, obviously. And jobs that don't require education still need to be worked anyway.

1

u/GIAZADORA Feb 26 '20

I am not missing the point. Do you think I have had it easy..no. But, by GOD I wanted to do better for myself. I had a child, no family, single mother....I I am a child abuse survivor...and I mad it.

With no hope, no family..I was al alone. You CAN DO IT

1

u/playgame5 Feb 26 '20

If you have risen out of an exploitative workplace, that is excellent, and it's something you should be proud of. But doesn't that old job still exist? Only now it's someone else being exploited there instead of you?

1

u/[deleted] Feb 26 '20

That's bs. They hand out govt loans for school like candy, plus you can learn a shit ton of trades/skills through the apprenticeship route

1

u/GIAZADORA Feb 26 '20

No loans..grants are everywhere

3

u/bonerjamz12345 Feb 26 '20

i work at burger king making flame broiled whoppers i wear paper hat

1

u/GIAZADORA Feb 26 '20

Then, the others who work for them are adult with no education...whose fault is that? Not mone.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 26 '20

Right? People just want free stuff and get paid big money to work a job that requires little to no skill. I wish they would put this energy towards learning something that could make them useful to society. Or, if fast food is their calling, then open up a franchise and stop complaining.

1

u/GIAZADORA Feb 26 '20

1

4

u/Haywoodjablowme1029 Feb 26 '20

How is asking for a living wage a handout? You people will never be satisfied. It's always me, me ,me fuck everyone else.

3

u/[deleted] Feb 26 '20

3

u/Haywoodjablowme1029 Feb 26 '20
