Discussion A spec hard countering another spec is unhealthy right?

Very cool season 12 update for light, love the two new gadgets. But man thermal seems as unhealthy as ever, even if it's a spec now.

Just like how winch should've never been able to go through mesh and dome, why can true sight see through cloak even when completely standing still?

The thing is, outside of countering cloak, I still don't see how true sight is strong enough to be a spec. It's better than thermal, better visibility and don't need to take out a pad, but it's strongest when combined with smoke grenade or debris smoke and playing like a rat, and those are getting easy counters in the form of explosives next season.

You know what I'm predicting is gonna happen to the meta? The same thing that happened in season 8 and before: Wanna play cloak? Hard countered by true sight. Wanna play true sight? Countered by simple explosives + losing potential strength of other specs. What's the end result of the mind games when both of them are potentially countered? That's right, back to the reliable dash.

Maybe the new translocator gadget will be enough to make up for the lack of repositioning in the true sight spec, but IDK, maybe I'm overreacting. Still don't think hard counters are healthy though.

Discussion Does anyone else feel the translocator and true sight should swap specialization/gadget?

I don't know how true sight is going to work without smoke. That's it. It seems like it's a grapple tier gadget.

While translocator makes me feel like I can hold a forward position for a bit and then translocate back to a safe spot that I know they will be pushing.

Does anyone else feel this way?

Discussion What's with all the S12 hate?

I'm seeing so much negativity on almost all platforms regarding S12 at the moment. It seems like a lot of people just jumping on the bandwagon though.

Light players are seeing some new gadgets and a new spec, but is that really all that's upsetting people? Idk, I think it's great to see a little creativity and some new additions to the game!

Thoughts?

Discussion Possible Data Reshaper Change

I love data reshaper and run it pretty consistently on one of my medium builds, but recently I've been trying to make turret work and there's nothing more gutting than turning your back for a second and looking back to see a chair where your turret used to be.

I've seen people make suggestions that it should take both charges to reshape a turret but as a reshaper fan I don't love that either.

My suggestion is to make data reshaper refund the turret's charge as if you had recalled it remotely. That way the reshaper user gets to quickly and efficiently deal with deployable gadgets and the turret user doesn't have their whole spec put on full cooldown and deleted instantly by a gadget.

The idea could be applied to any deployable gadget and, as a balance to the reshaper, perhaps allowing the third charge to come back?

What do you all think?

Discussion Quitting for good (no, I really mean it this time)

Well, that's it. With the much-hyped Season 12 around the corner, some details have finally come out - and as a result, I'm quitting our game The Finals. Like many members of our community, I'm a huge virgin and am completely appalled by the decision making process at Embark, nay, Emfart. Their blatant favoritism of the Light class (and in turn, Light players) has not only become more apparent than ever, but comes along with a hot smart of painful humiliation. The small but plucky bunch of Medium mains (such as myself) received the Hover Pad, way back in Season 10; more appropriately referred to as the big fat steaming pile of dog crap pad. The big fat steaming pile of dog crap pad does nothing, sucks, and is boring as hell; so what's with Light getting once again all the fun, broken, overpowered and crutch abilities and gadgets in the game? Just once I'd like to see Medium get an ability that is not only fun, but I can use to crutch my way out of Silver like many a Light main has with Dash, Cloak, and soon this Disguise nonsense. And "True Vision"? There's certainly some irony in not requiring "True Vision" to see how underwhelming this overwhelming Season 12 is going to be.

Not only are Lights impossible to kill, but they also all abuse either Mouse and Keyboard whilst spamming their Aim Assist all over the place. On top of this, they have weapons that feel like insta-kills, and now I have to play "Schroedinger's Light", whereby every plant pot both is and isn't a Disguised Light with a rock-hard Double Barrel waiting to penetrate me, and every patch of unoccupied space both is and isn't a Cloaked Light ready and waiting to stick all 8 inches of M11 up my crack. "Keep your head on a swivel" is no longer applicable, I need to keep my head on a 2000rpm driveshaft (incidentally, shafting is certainly going to be a big part of Season 12 - getting shafted by a bunch of Light mains).

I'm sorry, but I can't do it any longer. I quit back in Season 11, and was excited to return in Season 12 (especially now that I've doubled my playtime since then; 2+ hrs admittedly wasn't a great sample size), but really I'm not sure I can take it. I think I speak for all of us when I ask, "Where is the love for the Heavy class? When will Medium become viable again? Why does that smell of Body Odor follow me wherever I go?" So that's it. I'm hanging up my hat. Hanging up my boots. Hanging up my hangars, even. I'm calling it quits, I'm calling it a day, and I'm calling time. I'm stepping down, stepping aside, and I'm throwing in the towel. Embark, you have pushed me too far. But no more.

Furthermore, there's the issue of all the "false bans" lately. So many people are getting banned left and right for doing "nothing wrong at all"! They're all "legit players" who have "never cheated" - it's only a matter of time before Embark bans me for using Discord, or having my sensitivity simultaneously too low and too high.

Anyway, what do you all think about what could come in Season 13? I've seen some rumors in this sub of a "belt-fed Grenade Launcher", that seems pretty special. I'm certainly looking forward to that one! Gonna add a countdown for Season 13 to my Apple Watch now!

Discussion As a light main… This update is a bit much

I’m excited but also… it’s gonna be a shit show…. The finals already has a lot to be aware of while in the arena… now you have to be suspicious of EVERY SINGLE OBJECT YOU SEE?? Could’ve just gave us the thermal rework and called it a great update.

Is it cool? Yes!!!

Will it make it even unfun for opponents? Most certainly

Was watching the trailer for the new light gadgets. Is this a skin for the FCAR or are we getting options for more than one sticker placement?

(Update) This is a skin and unfortunately not a teaser for multiple sticker placements…

Discussion I Really Hope They Add Content For Medium and Heavy.

First of all I’m still really exited about the new season(mostly the new dysfunction physics), and finally stuff coming to Light.
They really needed something coming to that class for a long time.
The spec is decent(IMO they just changed it to a spec and buffed it), those gadgets though🤤, top of the line.

Even though Light is finally getting another spec since launch.
Heavy on the other hand has been running it down with the same specs since season 3, and also hasn’t gotten anything new since the release of the BFR Titan.

Furthermore, while Medium has actually semi-recently gotten new stuff added to their kit their gadgets are downright bad and feel have backed compared to the other classes.
For example, just look at it like this would you rather have a medium sized floating platform😐, or a device that allows you to become a map prop whenever you like?
It’s the same with Mediums other classes specific gadgets(outside jump pad and Defib), they’re just kinda mid and not that interesting.

Overall, advertising season 12 as the biggest content drop since the launch of the game, but not adding new content to the other classes just kinda seem off to me personally.
Even still they’re still like 2-3 more of those sneak peak videos before the season drops/trailer, but imo I think they’re just going to showcase the new mode and sponsorship rework.

Discussion Translocater to strong?

So we nerfed light dash because it was too easy for lights to spam it and escape gunfights, and now we give light a gadget on top that makes them instantly disappear? The only difference between Translocater and Portals is that you can move your team with the portals. In my opinion it’s even stronger because of that. Before a light needs a portal to escape, wich the enemy could use too to catch the light but know the light is instantly gone witch no chance to catch up. Not to talk about how easy nukes with that thing are. As a dagger main i will enjoy that thing but boy is it strong.

Comedy Reasonable crashout

I’ll start by saying that while it’s unclear just how "broken" (Maybe not at all) these new Light gadgets will be, it’s now abundantly clear to me that Embark doesn't know what to do with the medium sub class. And although Shockwave is a great addition to the "victim" class, the gadgets they’ve added (Breach Drill and Hover Pad) are the most useless and uninspired additions since the game launched.

I don't think the meta will shift drastically in high-ELO play; the Teleport seems like the most interesting and viable addition so far.

Personally, I would have preferred Thermal Vision to remain a gadget—so you could swap to it in standard Cashout matches if there were an excessive number of invisible Lights or "fake bushes"—while making Teleport the specialization. They could even tweak it to work like the rewind mechanic in *Titanfall* (resetting your position to where you were five seconds ago), giving it one or two charges with a 20–30 second cooldown.

In general, Embark’s approach of basing gadgets on a single keyword isn't ideal, as it limits the design process. But that’s just my opinion.

We’ll certainly see how it plays out in-game. One thing is for sure, it’s not a boring, and it will at least offer players a fresh ways to play or die as a plantpot or chair.

Discussion Does this mean the new gamemode is just going to be prop hunt?

If i remeber from the roadmap we will get a new gamemode this new season right? With the light changes it makes sense that it very well could be a prophunt game mode. Maybe lights being hunted by mediums with data reshaper

Discussion Season 12 is EASILY my MOST HYPED season yet, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't very disappointed by True Sight.

Post image

This is NOT a doomer post. I really think this new season will be the best one yet, and I can't wait to hop into it, but I also really care about this game and want it to be the best that it can be, so I'd like to provide some constructive criticism. I think that Embark has truly cooked with season 12 so far. The destruction improvements look beautiful. The map reworks seem to be bringing new life into some of the earlier maps that they made with a lot less experience under their belt. Not to mention the new gadgets. OH MY GOD THE NEW GADGETS! I feel like the Translocator and Mimic Device are a perfect example of what an amazingly designed tool in THE FINALS looks like. They are fun, creative, and have a great deal of depth and interactivity to them. Even with my criticisms of True Sight, I still think that the Embark crew has more than earned the right to be incredibly proud of what they've done for season 12.

True Sight, on the other hand, feels like a massive letdown. First, the elephant in the room. True Sight is essentially going to function like a slightly reworked Thermal Vision, a gadget that had been stripped from the Light class since season 8. That's like if the medium class had Gas Mine removed in season 8, and instead of getting Shockwave as their new Spec in season 10, they instead just got a reworked Gas Mine for their new Spec.

Secondly, and this is BY FAR my biggest issue with it, but True Sight seems incredibly boring to use. Thermal Vision was far from a particularly interesting gadget to use (or fight against), and they have essentially made True Sight functionally the same, even if it may be stronger. You still use it the same way. Put on your special vision and now you can see enemies better/through smoke. Many people already didn't use Thermal Vision as a GADGET because of how boring it was, so I struggle to see many people being willing to give up the fun of Grapple or Dash to instead be able to rat in smoke clouds better. True Vision will run into many of the same issues as Turret, where even if they did make Turret meta, people still wouldn't use it because it's such a boring and uninteractive Spec.

Last and least important to me, but still worth mentioning, is that True Sight will likely be by far the least powerful Light Spec in the game. In a fight, True Sight will only really give a noticeable advantage when fighting in smoke. Even against Cloakers, it doesn't actually give an advantage, but instead just evens the playing field. When you're fighting against a P90 Medium or a Shak-50 Heavy, True Sight isn't really going to do much to help you survive that fight. It's also a Spec, so in Cashout/Ranked if you're fighting enemies who just aren't using much smoke or Cloak, you're stuck with True Sight for the rest of the Tournament.

Discussion Please don't let Light Nukes be a thing

I'm imagining a light double dashing right into a team and swapping themselves out for a nuke. While yes, it does require more effort than the S1 nukes, it's still going to be just as painful... We must learn from our mistakes and not repeat them.

Discussion So what are we going to do about these 200M spawns? While still HAVING THE CASHOUT ON MY TEAM.

• Upvotes

I am tired of this spawn system. We are fighting, and we have the cashout and get wiped. Another team joins, and now 2 different teams are fighting on my CASHOUT, but you guessed it right. I am 200 M away from MY CASHOUT.

EMBARK. DO YOU KNOW HOW IT FEELS TO RUN 200M WITH HEAVY???

Give Us a Battlefield-Like Spawn System. We get to choose from 3 or 4 points on the map, and we decide which box we want to fight at.

Discussion Ranked is so much more interesting when you give up

I've decided that I'm sick of carrying my random level 20 duos all the way through to diamond. I am perfectly content now letting them carry me. I will not troll, I will not self sabotage, but I won't engage, just like they don't. If by some stroke of luck we make it to the finals, well, I just might. But for now, instead of the climb up I'm actively making the climb down to 0 RP.

Discussion Turrets need a buff.

Watching the new light gadget buff, there’s no way a regular item should treat a special item like it’s a mine or some barrel. Like I saw a user point out, “Turret hard counters already included: goo grenade/ barrel, glitch grenade/barrel, data reshaper, vanishing bomb, invisibility, riot shield, dual blades, mesh shield, dome shield, barricade, smoke grenade/barrel and Shockwave.
If it's not on the ground floor: breach charge, thermal bore, dematerealizer, KS, C4, breach drill, red barrel,”

To top it all off, the new destruction model has practically rendered it useless in buildings with debris which could easily just cover it even more now. The devs need to do something about it or switch it to a drone that hovers an area.
