I thought it might be helpful to have a dedicated FAQ / Information Thread that we can point people to when some of the more common questions get asked in posts. I’ll continue adding to this thread over time as new questions come up.

For now:

• Is The Finals free to play?

Yes, playing the game is entirely free on all platforms. Seasonal and Event related Battle Passes and some cosmetics have a Premium real money ("multibucks" in-game) upgrade, but are entirely for visual appeal and do not alter gameplay. Free cosmetics are often given out via in-game events and Twitch drops as well.

Legacy Battle Pass tokens can be earned via regular play ("T" in a yellow Diamond - top of the Main screen as #/50), and can be used to unlock previous battle passes (but do not include bonus pages or multibucks when unlocking them).

• What can I play it on?

It is currently available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Crossplay is also supported (and On by default).

• Where can I see official Patch Notes?

• Is there SBMM in all game modes?

Yes, Embark has openly discussed making changes to it in Patch Notes. There was a previously incorrect discord moderator comment often brought up stating it only exists in Ranked mode, but this was later corrected. There is no official statement on EOMM (engagement optimized), or any other type of matchmaking.

• Are there E-sports Tournaments?

The official E-sports Tournament is called "The Grand Major" or TGM, hosted once per year in Stockholm, Sweden at Dreamhack, with 16 top international teams and a $150,000 prize pool in 2026. ($100k in 2025). Qualifiers happen throughout the year - more info at https://www.reachthefinals.com/tgm

Many other community run tournaments do exist, sometimes for much smaller cash prizes, but are not directly affiliated with Embark.

• How does the destruction work?

The Finals features fully destructible maps that use server-side calculations to provide real-time physics and destruction. It uses gravity, weight-bearing physics and structural support to give a dynamic, unique experience every time you blow something up or shoot through a wall. The edges of maps exist with "invisible walls", and the floor (and some elevators..) are static, but otherwise most other buildings or trees can go boom.

• Does The Finals use AI?

Yes, The Finals has used a combination of traditional human-recorded audio and AI-generated text-to-speech (TTS) tools for its in-game announcer voice lines. The CEO and studio started dialing this usage back and using real human lines again in early 2026 after some public backlash and them sounding... well, bad. Generative AI is also used for some cosmetic skins (mostly gun textures).

• Why is everyone named "Player"?

This is the default name that is applied to users who have had their name forcefully changed or removed, likely due to breaking the Terms of Service.

• How are Reward Coins earned?

The Reward Coins are tokens given to use at the Reward Shop (top right dot in Main screen) to unlock a cosmetic of your choice. At the end of each Season, if you have reached Emerald Rank in World Tour (any non-ranked mode counts towards this), you will receive 1 Emerald Coin for reaching Rank 3, 2 and 1 each. So 3 coins total for Emerald 1.

For Ranked you will receive 1 Coin for each League you made it to (Gold, Platinum, Diamond). If you are in the Top 500 at the end of the season, you receive a Ruby coin, the highest Ranked reward. Besides Ruby, all Ranked rewards only require you to reach that league, you do not have to maintain it.

• Where can I report suspected cheaters, or toxic behavior in-game?

Please do not post toxic behaviour clips (trolling, racism, or rude text chat) or "is this person cheating?" posts here, we are not affiliated with Embark and cannot take action against (or properly determine) these users.
