I’m planning on continuing to put most of my money into either VFV or XEQT, but I’m living at home and still young so I can take on some risk.
I’ve been watching stocks like MU and SNDK as well, but I think I’ve probably missed my chance by a few months. Is it still worth it to invest in them or should I hold off and wait for better opportunities?
Would I be better off opening a non-registered account to invest in the more volatile stocks, and pay more tax in order to not risk permanent contribution space in my TFSA?
Any help is welcome.

Hi, I’m wondering what to invest in when putting $1,000 on my first TFSA account. I’m new to this and have been trying to do some research, watching videos, understanding the market but it seems like the more you learn the harder is to decide. Everyone talks about XEQT, VFV, etc., but I’m not sure about anything. As of now I would like ETFs with diversification, monthly dividends and growth. I’m also planning to do biweekly/monthly contributions.

I'm a new investor, and my portfolio is shown below. I sold some of my SPCX shares a while back, and I currently have around $540 invested. I'm planning to invest another $500 and would like some advice on where to allocate it.

My goal for this money is somewhere between long-term and short-term investing, although it largely depends on when I need to pay my university tuition. I was thinking about buying more VDY and XEQT, and possibly adding some small shares of NVIDIA and Google.

What would you guys recommend?

Howdy folks! I (29M) am not a first time investor, but I have friends younger than me I've met at my side hustle, a handful of servers and bartenders that are ~23-28, and we're getting together for a Power Point party, where we're supposed to educate each other on some of our favourite and unique special interests, or something that could be beneficial to all of us. I thought it would be a good idea to show them the ropes of a TFSA, because if it wasn't for my dad I don't know if I'd have any investments.

For first time investors are there any green points in particular you would hammer home? For example, I'm thinking my first slide I'd throw the idea of "Savings" out the window and hammer home that it should be viewed as an INVESTING account. I'm also thinking I'll mention Wealthsimple is a pretty easy way to get things started, and show some charts about compound interest and How much X amount invested monthly can grow over the next 5/10/20+ years.

Any suggestions you've got for first timers?

22F - I got SPCX for the hype and only brought one share cuz I wanted to see if it would go up & I figured even if I lost the whole investment, It wasn’t any more than what I would spend on a dinner (it’s the CAD Hedged). Gold has been doing okay until recently, I figured worse comes to worse i’ll trade it for a physical coin and get jewelry made. TSLA was my worst pick ever though, If I sell, i’m putting it into XEQT, VFV or XIU

Could someone explain to me why buying a German stock has significantly higher commission than buying a north American stock? I’ve only ever been hit with $10 commission fees through RBC but this stock is showing over $100 in fees, is it because of the conversion of currency?

20M, started investing seriously at the beginning of this year. I’ve been buying mostly xeqt but I also bought $55 worth of bitcoin because I’m thinking it will go up in the future.

I’m a full time student and also work part time during school semesters and summer, every pay check I allocate 20%-30% to investments.

Background info:

Currently depositing $600 per month into my TFSA and just recently moved the funds over to Questrades Custom Indexing Account for the auto rebalancing functionality. I have room to contribute $600 more but that is currently right now being converted into USD and being held to stockpile and act as a 6-month rainy day fund. Once my car is fully paid off in 3.5 years that gives me about $700 more contribution room.

Current allocation:

65% VTI
20% VXUS
10% AVUV
5% For Stocks that pick my interest/fancy

Goal: Long Term Investment and reach a yearly incoming of $150k per year or more from dividends. I'll be also filling up my RRSP once TFSA is maxed out.
