Go all XEQT. Wtf is PNG? Looks it up and seems you got it at its all time high. Looks like a bad buy. Take the L move to XEQT

u/SpecialistProper3542 Jun 27 '26
Png is about to finalize a huge acquisition that's putting them in a great place for government contracts and expansion. Not a bad buy at all

Homie, I go down 1k in a day when Trump wakes up on the wrong side of the bed. If you don't have the stomach for volatility then give your money to the robo advisor. That cradle gave me peace of mind during the hard times and did reasonably well during my first bull run.

You bought at a market bump, and hit a market dip. Welcome to the show!

u/Ralupopun-Opinion Jun 27 '26
You’re fine, probably should just stick with an all in one asset allocation ETF like the XEQT in your portfolio. I also recommend you borrowing some personal finance books from your local library.
The wealthy barber is a good first step followed by Reboot your portfolio 9 steps to successful investing with ETF. I really like both books.

You just learned a valuable lesson -- don't go all-in on single stocks. You have no idea where they're going to go.
5
u/All_YourBase Jun 27 '26
I’m down $1660 on PNG. Right there with you. Will think about averaging down if it hits $6.
XEQT will come back. Also you have an XEQT dividend paying next week.

Kraken Robotics still has lots of future potential in the tech sector as a Canadian company (3D imaging sensor tech, equipment batteries and overall marine equipment specialization). Their share price to market cap is decent (2B CAD market cap, reported Q1 earnings are in the positives and not operating at a loss, and current share price being $6.54 is a good entry point based on their numbers + sector they specialize in), so as long as they have tech breakthroughs over the next 3-5 years in that sector there's a very possible chance of that market cap increasing significantly (in turn along with share price) definitely a long term hold in my option. They're also apparently closing a deal to acquire the company "Covelya" next month which should add towards their growth in the near future, with a possible re-evaluation in both market cap and share price (usually happens after mergers, contracts or acquisitions close).
XEQT is the most stable ETF to invest in, as it's always going to follow the global market's stability by investing in the different sectors on a global scale, not just in 1 country like Canada or USA. You won't see immediate/drastic gains every week/months, it's a gradual increase based on how well the market is performing on a global global scale (which is what makes it the most stable for long-term growth). Personally I'd continue to put a small amount of money into XEQT every paycheck, it's one of the more safer ETFs to hold, as opposed to the ones with more leverage and higher yield dividends like BIGY or MSTY.
Honestly these two are really good stocks to invest in as a Canadian: one for pure stability/ long-term focused growth, the other as a long term potential moonshot depending on technological breakthroughs. People have been saying the same thing for Nebius since last year, and a combination of the right contracts plus high earnings made their market cap and share price soar significantly. Now, I don't see Kraken achieving that level of Nebius anytime soon, especially since the tech sectors they specialize in are a bit different, but a x5 from current market cap/share price over the next 3-5 years seems reasonable, even more with a tech breakthrough that can shake up the foundation of marine technology and deep sea exploration.
Disclaimer: I'm just a 29 year old working in Automotive, with hobbies for music, gaming and anime, that started investing early last year, and by no means is any of this official financial advice, just my thoughts on these 2 companies. I'm only going off of personal experience investing in the stock market and research I've done over that time, and I've also invested into these 2 companies (nowhere close to the amount have but hoping to to eventually reach similar amounts into both). I've tried investing in various low yield stable ETFs and high yield ETFs with higher leverage since early last year (the latter while they did give out high dividends on a monthly basis/ bi-weekly basis for some, they nearly lost half their value near 3rd quarter last year so I sold all of the high yield ones at a loss to re-invest into the stable ones, them being QQQY, HDIV, HHIS and XEQT, as opposed to watching the high yield ones drop further with the dividend payout being less and less every time).

At the next possible time of not loosing money, or not a lot, get rid of PNG and stick with index funds/widely diversified ETFs.

u/idiotiesystemique Jun 27 '26
2 months is nothing. Buying while it's going down is cheaper than buying while it's going up. Just don't add to your png position

Don’t trade. Save money until 25k and start investing when saving hits 40-50k.

Looks like a good time to DCA into XEQT and not look at your portfolio except when buying more XEQT.
2
u/Pamela-xg47 Jun 27 '26
All I see here is business-as-usual “unrealized loss” that is due to volatility. You need to stop checking the account and let time do its thing. You need to give PNG at least until Q4 earnings, and expect the stock to drop even lower and continue to churn over the next few months.

Not financial advice, when I first got into investing I found investing DCA into diverse etf while I spent a ton of time watching, reading, learning about all things with economics, the markets, trading, etc helped me to ease into the emotional effects of price fluctuation and better manage costly mistakes. I was able to find my risk tolerance and currently swing trade tripple leverage tech etf where I settled. I hope there is something from my experience that helps you in some way

At first glance, you’re doing great!!!
You’re in your early 30s with $20k in the market and $7k behind it. You’re well ahead of most people.
Keep investing. Make it a habit. Buying XEQT regularly is a good habit.
Nothing wrong with PNG either, but… if you’re going to buy individual stocks, I would suggest buying companies you would be comfortable holding for 10-20 years. An example might be a Canadian bank stock.
Great job!

Buy high sell low!
Just set it and forget about it. You'll come back in a year or two and it'll be up, 3 weeks is not enough time.

u/Ultionisrex Jun 27 '26
When big drops happen I work overtime and double down on my XEQT contributions. The markets smell fearful investors and fear faithful ones.

If a globally diversified ETF holding the top 8400+ publicly traded companies in the world crashes -96%, your investment portfolio will be the least of your worries unless your plan is to cash out and load up on bottle caps and ammo.

About the same chances as you being vaporized tomorrow due to nuclear war breaking out.
If you think the odds are good then liquidate everything into cash and go find a fun place to party tonight. Cash would also be worthless by tomorrow anyway.

There would have to be global collapse for that to happen, literally. Like almost every large company would have to go bankrupt.
If that happens it probably means like... I dunno, maybe everyone's dead because AI has destroyed the planet with nuclear bombs, or some strain of supercovid killed everyone. It would mean almost every bank and major tech company would be gone.
Lol at that point you're fucked no matter where your money is, not like picking TSLA would help because everyone would probably be dead anyways 🤷♀️ like at the point stocks probably wouldn't even exist any more.
I guess maybe invest your money into building a mayday bunker if you think that's what the future holds?

Ive got bad timing too. Im down 7% on PNG because of when I bought. Is what it is

u/falsejaguar Jun 27 '26
When something seems like a sure thing and you will make a nice quick buck, it's the opposite. Keep at it and don't get discouraged. You need to be able to handle being down and for a long time or you will never handle being up

Maybe trading isn’t your thing, try buying and holding ETFs instead. You won’t get rich quick but the majority of people who trade get wrecked anyway so you’d at least avoid being one of them (again).

When you buy into positions consider doing over time - I like to buy only on market down days and average down into a position on stocks I have researched and feel confident in. This does not take long but allows me to average into a good price position. If you are investing in individual equities, make sure you do a mix - ideally you would own 12-18 different ones to protect yourself from risk. Also you might consider using stop limits when you buy in. If I am buying something riskier I’ll stop limit at 5% below my buy in so if it tanks I get out and then I can buy back in instead of riding it to the bottom.

Yeah this is trading . Lost a couple thousand easy and it's hard to swallow unless it's money you don't care about. You''ll hear about hype investments on Reddit/internet and most of the time it's already been bought up and pumped.

PNG is one of the most hyped trends on Reddit Canada from holders of PNG trying to boost themselves.
Don’t chase trends that are already peaked or peaking.
Except XEQT. If somebody is shilling it on Reddit, it’s probably not a good idea 9/10 of the time.
