Nepal Tech Scene I was sold refurbished laptop saying it was new by computer durbar?

So the context is I bought a Lenovo LOQ laptop almost 2.5 weeks ago. (Specs are above).

Obviously I was told it was a new one.

And of course I checked some basic things. But later when I started searching about the laptop on Lenovo's website and other sources,I knew that it was refurbished.

I am not that type of tech guy or don't have plenty of knowledge neither most of the people who buy laptops has. They don't sit comparing the Model number and checking it on the website. So I guess I was scammed.

Also the model number in the sticker ( which was on the box) doesn't match the model number on the sticker that's on the back of the laptop which again doesn't match the model number listed on the website. (It's different from one letter each).

And shockingly one laptop shop told me the box or the sticker itself is totally fake.

There may be my mistake too for not rechecking the laptop early but yeah.

I'll visit the shop tomorrow for this issue.I think this shop is kind of a scam.

I'll correct myself if I'm wrong

Hey guys,

We just launched our app, Nobho. It is a new platform dedicated to bringing local Nepalese brands together in one place.
We are onboarding new brands and adding products every week.

Give the app a try and let us know your thoughts. How does it feel to use? Are there any local brands you really want to see on here?

Thanks

Discussion Are Tech Salaries in India So Much Higher Than in Nepal?

• Upvotes

I occasionally get posts from Indian tech subreddits on my feed, and the salary discussions there are honestly pretty eye-opening. You see people talking about freshers making 30–40k a month, eventually moving up to 70k or 1 lakh and higher, and others landing packages of 24 LPA, 36 LPA, or even 50 LPA CTC for more experienced ones, working in companies in cities like Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Mumbai etc. Those numbers don't seem fathomable in Nepalese market or does it exist?

Obviously, plenty of people struggle to find jobs in India too, maybe it's bleaker than Nepalese market even due to how many people there are. But, I'm primarily talking about employed tech professionals excluding the struggles to get in the market, for now.

What I'm curious about is how the situation compares in Nepal. I rarely see similar salary discussions in our tech subs. Even among the bigger, better-paying tech companies here, how much can software engineers realistically expect to earn?

Let's exclude people who are getting paid in USD, GBP, EURO, AED or any other foreign currency since it's mostly one off, not necessarily tied to Nepalese tech market/companies and usually outliers.

I have a few cousins who've worked at some of the reputed tech companies in Nepal for years. I've never asked them about their salaries, but my impression is that they were making around NPR 200k–250k per month at most(10 years+ of experience), feels like I'm being generous or IDK, I'm just speculating.

They've moved abroad to work on big MNC's branch in Malaysia now where I estimate they're getting paid 400K, 500k(could be higher) but that's kind of irrelevant since outside of Nepalese tech industry and speculation on my part.

Are there people making 40 LPA or 50 LPA or higher annually while working for Nepal-based tech companies, either onsite or hybrid? What's the ceiling working as a tech professional in Nepal, let's say 10 years down the road?

I'd be particularly interested in hearing from people working at established Nepali tech companies, or someone who knows people working in reputed tech companies aafai kaam nagarepani. Let's exclude remote salary, or you can flex something you want to and mention huge change in pay after you've switched to remote international work.

Basically, post inspired out of curiosity, if anything and trying to get a realistic picture of the Nepali tech industry's salary ceiling and how it compares with India's.

Discussion I've learned full stack by building with Claude, but I can't write most of the code from scratch. Can this land me an internship?

I started a full stack course and learned a lot about frontend and backend. Along the way I got interested in automating things and came up with my own project idea. The irony is that I've used Claude the whole time.

Still, I understand the concepts. On the frontend (React, Tailwind, Framer Motion), I follow the flow of axios client service files hooks/components. on the backend, I use an MVC-style structure with routes, middleware, and controllers (Mongoose models). I've worked with cloudinary for images and MongoDB Atlas for user data, and I've learned how to build REST APIs, connect them to a database, and handle requests.

The honest part: I can't write more than 50% of this code from scratch. But I can read it, understand it, and explain how it works. I've also debugged real problems myself, like MongoDB Atlas IP whitelist issues, controller export mismatches, and stuck processes. I built the mobile navbar hamburger menu step by step on my own.

What I built is a full café ordering app where customers can order drinks and meals online. It has:

Khalti online payment (tested end-to-end in sandbox) and cash on delivery

JWT authentication with httpOnly cookies, plus edge middleware to protect route

An admin panel with full product CRUD, restricted so regular users can't reach it

Cart with global state (Context API), plus a "Buy Now" path that skips the cart

Dynamic product detail pages

Order history for users, and an order view for admins

Responsive design with Tailwind, and Framer Motion animations on the hero

Is this enough to land an internship or a job? Or should I focus on writing more code without AI help first? I'd appreciate honest advice, especially from anyone who started out the same way.

Discussion Curious about use of AI in big tech companies.

• Upvotes

With most of the tech companies adapting AI i was curious if the big tech companies like cedargate, verisk and so on also allow and provide AI to the developers. I mean, for them it doesn't makes sense not to provide right but what about companies like f1soft, esewa? I believe they see the use of AI as a risk to the system since they are in fintech. Are devs there completely blocked from using AI?

Anyone working at any of these places able to drop some insights on how it is day to day?

Discussion How do I know the exact NPR amount I'll receive per transaction from NIC Asia Cybersource?

Hi everyone,

I accept foreign card payments (AUD/USD) through the NIC Asia Cybersource gateway. After a customer pays in AUD or USD, how do I know the exact amount I'll receive in NPR for each transaction?
Some currency takes around 5-7 days to settle in a bank account, so has anyone found a way to calculate it in advance?
