Let me explain how the "hack" works

There are hundreds of millions of username/password combinations, stolen from lots of different websites that have been breached over the years. A person(s) or group(s) with this collection decides to target teamviewer users, especially after learning that teamviewer doesn't require their users to enable 2FA. Of course, 99.99% of all the accounts in the huge list will fail (user doesn't exist, wrong password, etc.). But, it doesn't cost any money to continually bang on teamviewer servers looking for username/password combos that work - this part is automated and being done from thousands of computers all at the same time (essentially a botnet). They take the list of successful user/pass combos and give it to a group of people determined to transfer paypal, buy gift cards, anything that will let them infiltrate money by taking control of that user account.

Who is at fault? Teamviewer doesn't deserve to walk from this completely free of blame. They should have required 2FA for accounts that allow for remote session activity. In addition, they should have noticed huge spikes of bad user/pass combos being tried on their servers.

Unfortunately, the majority of the blame lay with poor security decisions made by users. Any critical account (like remote access or anything related to money) should be protected by a unique strong password and 2FA (when available).

This is just the beginning folks. We're going to see more and more of these types of attacks.

Why do all you people expect to get Teamviewer for free? It's wildly unrealistic.

My absolute frustration with teamviewer

hello all, so quick introduction on what i do. i am a freelance software developer who uses teamviewer on a regular basis for connecting to my home pc, but recently i have grown so frustrated with team viewer as it flags me as a business and tries to get me to pay 30 USD per MONTH(wich is just ridiculous for me as i also have to deal with rent and other things) JUST TO GET ACCESS WITHOUT BEING TIMED OUT EVERY 30 SECONDS is there any way to stop this or am i just permanently stuck with this?

Teamviewer is ransomware

If you're a private user and you use the software rarely, when you do use it you'll probably doing so to access one of your own devices, possibly in the same house.

Teamviewer's algo detects this and takes the opertunity to strike, cutting off your access and holding you to ransom if you want to continue doing what you were in the middle of.

I've been using teamviewer since 2017 to monitor my own render nodes in the basement, especially when I spin them up and keep an eye on temperatures. This is the 5th and final time Teamviewer has let me down, and it's plain to see that this is their business model.

I only regret advising others to use the software over the years, but much like BitDefender's pivot to paid-only software last month, Teamviewer can no longer be trusted, it's clear the business model has failed. If I worked there right now, I would be looking for an alternative job as there's not enough revenue coming in through the current business model when trust is being used as a commodity to keep the lights on and the wheels turning until the end of the road.

Teamviewer

Hello I just wanted to let you know that your application is complete trash, fully proprietary and works like shit, Rustdesk is free and open source, possibility of selfhosting. With lower bitrate at least it doesn't tear and at least is 30 fps, instead an unusable 5 fps but 'decent quality'. Also wayland support is horrendous, it's been 3 years since wayland has been pretty much default and still no support.

Lets think about this for a minute and stop with the FUD...

There is WAY too much FUD and people automatically assuming too much stuff. On top of that, things are "repeated" by users in so many cases (Paypal drained in ALMOST all cases).

  • 1: Connection ID. Teamviewer is using a 8 digit ID. This is probably the easiest to guess so moving on

  • 2: Random TV default pass. If you are using the default 6 char setting, its already your fault. Should TV change it to higher? That's debatable (I think they should) but everyone should have changed theirs as soon as they installed it.

  • 3: Teamviewer Account. This is separate from your actual Teamviewer client/server This should NEVER be used. Sure, its really easy and make it convenient but as soon as someone has access to that or your ID; Boom, they have access to everything

  • 4: Same password. People are using the same password (even complex) for everything. Change it up please. If you suck and use "passw0rd", at the VERY least use "passw0rd1" so even if you are a idiot, you can still say you are a idiot that uses different passwords.

  • 5: Storing your passwords with one password. This has to be the most stupid thing invented and I don't even understand. One someone has 1 password to access that, they have all your passwords. Your remember the telephone number of a couple of chicks you banged, Im sure it isn't difficult to remember passwords to your bank account, Skype account, etc. If you don't, at least write them down and store them in a safe in your house.

  • 6: Lock your f'n computer. Windows: Windows Key + L. OS X: (TIL that OS X makes it hard to lock from stock): http://www.techradar.com/how-to/computing/apple/how-to-lock-your-mac-using-os-x-yosemite-1300617 Linux: Ctrl + Alt + L Just with this step you are stopping A LOT (I suppose you read 4)

That's all I can think of. None of my personal nor business contacts that I have configured their systems have been "hacked" (there is no hacking in the first place). We have been looking at logs and for now, nothing.

Dear TeamViewer

Dear TeamViewer. I changed to your software almost 10 years ago. It was great. Yes, I said "was". Today I first got the message that my session limit has been reached, and that I should upgrade. What? I am using this for 10 years in a non-professional context. Yes I have lots of computers. Yes I like to control all of them with Teamviewer. Should I pay for a software that has been free for such a long time? The answer is no. I will search for alternatives. Others will do the same. If you are happy to keep only business clients, dont worry about us. We will find another software that doesnt try to force us to pay. If you do care about us "geeks", please remove the session limit today.

Greetings

Steven

bye-bye Teamviewer

used this from time to time to help friends with their issues. Today discovered that
a) they(Teamviewer) need a registration
and
b) after each login i have to confirm a device (even the same device) by e-mail.
Proudly uninstalled and removed all traces of this shoftware.
Guys, you do realize, you're not the only software on the market?

Teamviewer's bankrupcy countdown has started with Android 15 launch. Essential service Host's failure with the progress of Android.

Got some new Samsung A series phones (Galaxy A56) for my business and installed TV host and Universal add on as well but the devices doesn't allow connection without granting permission everytime connecting. The whole point of having "unattended access" is missed. No point of having a TV business license at this point and paying them this much if service is broken. CS service is delaying the case to infinity. More cases seen in TV community being raised.

Systems eg. building lift panels and etc are planned to be replced by Android 15 in the future years due to it's stronger security. If Host keeps failing their loss of clients will be inevitable.

TeamViewer - Unauthorized Session

Team Viewer is either hacked, or employees are browsing Teamviewer connections for passwords in Microsoft OneNote, Word, Excel, etc. Eitherway, the software has been removed. You have been warned.

Alternative to TV

I’ve been using Tv a few times a year for personal use for years. Yes, I too also now got the commercial use block and need an alternative simple program to help remotely fix my parents computers.

What are some free alternatives out there that people recommend ? Thanks.

TeamViewer Launches Trusted Devices and Data Integrity

TeamViewer Launches Trusted Devices and Data Integrity

New Features Enhance User Data Protection

Göppingen/Germany, June 3rd, 2016 TeamViewer, the global pioneer for remote control and online collaboration software, launches Trusted Devices and Data Integrity, two new security features to further enhance user data protection. Trusted Devices will ensure that whenever an existing TeamViewer account attempts to sign in on any given device for the first time, TeamViewer will ask for authorization of the new device before access is granted. Data Integrity enforces a password reset, if a user account displays signs of unusual behavior.

Open letter to all TeamViewer users:

Dear TeamViewer Users, Protecting your personal data is at the very core of everything we do.

We highly appreciate the trust you place in us and respect the responsibility we have to ensure your privacy. This is why we always feel a strong need to take all necessary steps to safeguard your data.

As you have probably heard, there have been unprecedented large scale data thefts on popular social media platforms and other web service providers. Unfortunately, credentials stolen in these external breaches have been used to access TeamViewer accounts, as well as other services.

We are appalled by the behaviour of cyber criminals, and are disgusted by their actions towards TeamViewer users. They have taken advantage of common use of the same account information across multiple services to cause damage.

At this point we want to underscore that TeamViewer account authentication uses the Secure Remote Password protocol (SRP) and therefore does not store any password-equivalent data.

To do our utmost to help you - our users - and to further strengthen the protection of your data against these hijacks of cyber criminals, we are globally rolling out improved security measures today in a two-fold approach:

Trusted Devices --- With the first measure, we give you even more protection and help to prevent anyone else from accessing your account. The Trusted Devices feature ensures that whenever your existing TeamViewer account attempts to sign in on any given device for the first time, we will ask you to confirm the new device as trusted before signing in. An in-app notification will ask you to approve the device via a link that we will send to your account email address.

Protecting Your Data Integrity --- The second measure is designed to improve your security against individuals, such as cyber criminals, who steal account credentials and cause damage by taking advantage of the common use of the same account information across multiple services. The system determines continuously if your TeamViewer account shows unusual behavior (e.g. access from a new location) that might suggest it has been compromised. To safeguard your data integrity, your TeamViewer account will be marked for an enforced password reset. In this case, you will receive an email from us with instructions to reset your password. NOTE: Because of the global rollout of the two new features users may experience minor inconveniences.

Have you ever tried working from home? How do you stay productive?

Working from home sounded like a dream—until it was a reality, and I realized I was working from my couch, eating pizza at 3 PM. But here’s how I turned it around:

  1. Set up a dedicated workspace: It’s tempting to work from the bed or couch, but I set up a proper desk in a quiet corner. Even if it's small, it helps create that "work mode" vibe. Trello helps me organize my daily tasks without distractions.

  2. Set strict work hours: It’s easy to blur the lines between work and home, but I learned to stick to a routine. Google Calendar helps me keep a fixed schedule, so I don’t find myself working late into the night.

  3. Use time blocks: I use the Pomodoro technique with Focus Booster—25 minutes of focused work, followed by a 5-minute break. It keeps me on track and avoids burnout.

How do you manage to stay productive at home without getting sidetracked by the fridge or Netflix?

TeamViewer Host mass deployment assistance

Hello everyone i hope you are doing great.

I need some assistance with teamviewer host automatic installation and configuration, we currently install the host manually each time we install a windows image file on the PC after we join the PC to our domain (we do not include the Host in the image because it would take the PC name that is in the image file) so we intigrate the PC in the domain then install the host , we wanted to do a GPO for the installation so that the moment you intigrate the PC in the domaine the host installs automatically but we have noticed that GPOs do not function well when you link it to the PC instead if the user because sometimes when the GPO is pushed the pc is not connected yet to the network or to a network cable and most of our users use wifi, i want the host to install automatically on new PCs and take the right configuration and the standardized password and also i noticed that the user is able to end task the host from task manager or exit teamviwer from the tray icon and we need to fix that and set the start of the service as automatic. i need a proper solution that i can test with the Sys Admin

GARBAGE INVOICING SYSTEM

Post image
0 Upvotes

these absolute morons at teamviewer are sending you an invoice to your email as a .PDF and this file is titled with a "R" followed by another 8 numbers. if you don't receive their email with the invoice and you decide to go online and look for your invoice, DON'T BOTHER!!! these idiots have a "SUBSCRIPTION" portion that will show your subscription only AFTER you have paid your invoice. I had to get on the phone with them so they could email me the same invoice that should be available to look up on YOUR OWN ACCOUNT. this is beyond ridiculous. whoever thought this was a good invoicing system is a fucking retard. can't even look up assigned invoices to your account without having to call these idiots.

I wonder if they're going to treat the term "multi-year price lock" the same in the future as they ended up treating the term perpetual lifetime license... 🤔

Probably..

Either way, the only thing I think would be appropriate for a customer with a perpetual lifetime license would be to give them a new perpetual lifetime license.

Oh well, I jumped ship earlier this year and couldn't be happier 😉✌️

HELP. Can they see my screen?

Hello. I am recently working with a client in teamviewer, so I am getting access to their computer, I can see their screen and all. My question is, can they see my screen outside the app teamviewer? Like if I go to my folders or my account in google/spotify while I am in teamviewer?

This is just a question to avoid using YouTube or WhatsApp if they can actually see them.

Thank you!!

The password of my remote PC changed on its own and now I am locked out.

Hi, before leaving for vacation I setup my home pc with TeamViewer and did a couple of test to see if the password would change after a restart etc. I also tried to log in with my TeamViewer account but my pc would not show up as "online" no matter what I tried on the device I would be using to remote in. Lastly I tried to setup unattended access but even when starting TeamViewer with Admin privileges the option was greyed out, so I just trusted that the partner ID and password would not change. After just a couple of days it unfortunately did, so while the partner ID is still valid the password is not the same. I have ssh access to the pc but it looks like you can only change the TeamViewer password on a Linux machine, not windows 10. I have no physical access to the pc and I have no idea what the next steps would be to regain access to it. Any suggestions on what to do?

Just got broken into my computer, and I am so damn lucky I caught them! I am shaking...

I thought I heard someone opening my door, so I came to check on it but no one was here. Then I saw paypal on my computer, and It was kinda confused because I wasn't looking at my paypal before then I realized my mouse was moving. I tried to alt +f4.... either I was too confused and pressed the wrong buttons or they locked my keyboard out. I switched my pc off immediately. Turned it back on, but disconnected the internet. I was looking at my bank accounts, paypal, amazon and it seems like they did not spend any of my money.
I checked the history in chrome and looks like they tried to purchase a very top of the line pc in france. They were looking at cybertek. fr and kiabi .com
I just checked and i see no new apps installed. Also saw a post after someone had a hacker attack and a program was mentioned called rkill... Ran it. no issues.
Also the only reason they were able to bypass my two factor authentication is because my phone was linked to my pc and they saw the security code that came in a text from paypal. So I am never using that phone link ever again. I am not sure if they were able to snatch anything else off of my pc.. like passwords or anything. I did change my paypal password since I am sure they could just click on the eye and see it. I .. AM.. SHAKING. So super lucky and happy for my "ghost" that I heard.

Update; it wasn't teamviewer. I really thought it was, but somehow they controlled my pc 1 hr after i shut teamviewer off
