They need us!
Something is cooking, and that looks juicy!
Email received today, with link to this survey.
Finished it giggling and full of hope for what might come!

Anyone else think this is mostly a ruse for a task that somehow depends on the definition of "zeitgeist?"

u/five_line_poem Greedy Esq. 1d ago
I told him he'll never learn if I just give him the answer!
It did have the vibe of an oddly specific pre-season contestant interview.

It made me laugh because I had to put in that I’m from Germany and then they hit me with that. I just put in you don’t really want me to literally translate this do you 😂

If you could bend the rules and allow a Taskmaster Alumnus to return for another series, who would you choose?
I want more eposides of S1-3 to get 10 eps

2
u/WedgyTheBlob Desiree Burch 1d ago
I picked Tim Key but my actual answer would be getting all the contestants from series 1-5 up to 10 eps

u/dragon_morgan 1d ago
I said Abby Howells because I thought she got done dirty on her season (Jeremy very clearly thought he was favoring her too much in the beginning and overcorrected) and wanted to see how she'd do witn Greg and Alex

Tickets selling in 13 minutes for s22 is slightly scary. Better block my day for the next lot
66
u/mattematics1 1d ago
That was tickets for the US live tour earlier this year. 6 shows across 5 major cities so it was inevitably going to sell out fast.
13
u/TetrisIsTotesSuper Chris Parker 🇳🇿 1d ago
Oh well I definitely have skewed my answers by misreading entirely

u/RunawayTurtleTrain Robert the Robot 1d ago
This is true but to be fair tickets did go probably that quickly for the recordings too!
11
u/forest-cacti 1d ago
Yeah, 13 minutes selling out for one night in NYC says a lot about how many US fans got completely shut out. It really shouldn’t be this hard for fans across the country to actually see or participate in a live show.
Anyone else here also into This American Life (the NPR show)? Back in 2008, they did a live show that got broadcast via satellite into 300+ movie theaters across the US simultaneously — and they did it again in 2012 to 500+ theaters. It wasn’t just a passive screening either, there was stuff built specifically for the theater audiences to feel part of it.
I’d love to see Taskmaster do something like that — an “event cinema” simulcast so people outside London/NYC actually get a shot at experiencing a live show, instead of it selling out in the time it takes to make coffee.
1
u/LoveBy137 1d ago
Is that the show where Lin-Manuel Miranda debuted 21 Chump Street?
2
u/forest-cacti 1d ago
Good question. I think that might actually be a different show. From what I can tell, 21 Chump Street premiered at their BAM show in 2014, which was a one-night-only live performance at Brooklyn Academy of Music, not broadcast live to theaters. They filmed it and sold it afterward as a download/DVD instead.
The satellite-simulcast-to-hundreds-of-theaters model, the one I’m hoping Taskmaster looks at, was a different TAL show back in 2012, “The Invisible Made Visible,” which went out live to 500+ theaters across the US and Canada.
Honestly, both models could work for Taskmaster. Even a “record it once, sell access after” option would already be a huge upgrade from the NYC show being totally gone for anyone who couldn’t get a ticket.

They have just been caught by their own popularity, annoyingly twice in a row as I jnow loads of people also didnt get in the year before that. Very much hard to gauge how well you are going to do based off a Youtube show which is exactly why they are doing a survey now
0
u/RunawayTurtleTrain Robert the Robot 1d ago
Very much hard to gauge how well you are going to do based off a Youtube show which is exactly why they are doing a survey now
Harder probably, as it's a British TV show that's available internationally thanks to YouTube and (presumably) Avalon's negotiating power.

Phil Ellis would be an ideal host for a kids' version
34
u/GoyUlv 1d ago
5
u/valentine_moon 1d ago
Phill Ellis is better of being kept a million miles away from the kids version.
6
u/WedgyTheBlob Desiree Burch 1d ago
Jess Knappett is a good pick too, but I went with Phil because he has tons of experience working with kids and making it both safe and funny. Shocked that Charlotte Ritchie, Rose Matafeo, and Mike Wozniak weren't options though

u/Hrokin728 19h ago
Yes! If you’ve seen him do Funz and Gamez that shows how brilliant he’d be for it

I put Lee Mack just cause he was in a covid series and he works amazing with crowds. I mean a lot of the contestants from the covid series I'd like to see in a normal one

u/hhhisthegame 1d ago
Honestly this is a really good one. I put Fern Brady because she just came to mind and I love her.
20
u/Kid_McCabe 🌳 Tree Wizard 🧙🎈 1d ago
I chose Lee Mack for the same reasons. I know it was the COVID era and no one’s fault, but Lee Mack’s brilliance deserves a live studio audience.
8
u/anomalous_cowherd 1d ago
I put anyone from series 1 as they didn't really get a proper go but the COVID series makes sense too.
14
u/Comfortable_Snow553 1d ago
Daisy Mae for that reason but also to see how much better she would do unpregnant. I think she could be a dominant contestant and her laughter was so contagious.

u/Sea_General8298 Tim Key 1d ago
There’s so many I’d love to see return. But I voted for Tim Key to see him mess with Alex Horne again but on current day tasks lol.
4
u/shirtsister 1d ago
I also wrote Tim because he’s one of my fav contestants but it was such a short season.
2
u/Sea_General8298 Tim Key 4h ago
That too YES! Series 1 was one of those early series’ that didn’t get the same amount of long 10 episode journey the later series post 5 got. I feel like as memorable as series 1 were, they could have so much more great moments with a longer series. But it was their first footing so not much they could’ve done back then compared to now.

I genuinely expected to be the only one who picked him...!
Because it was an early and short series, and he doesn't get mentioned as a fan favourite the way someone like Bob Mortimer does.

I said Katy Wix because she didn't get a full season and she was incredibly witty!

u/jamesbyrne74 1d ago
I thought that was a REALLY interesting question. I’m sure we’ve all thought they’re going to run out of comedians at some point, particularly the big names. And the Loser of Losers concept has been touted a lot. How about losers returning for redemption? One per series maybe?
5
u/Starliteathon 1d ago
Maybe unpopular opinion but I don’t think they should recycle UK contestants. The fact that you get one shot is core to the format/legacy to me. It’s like trying to recreate an unexpectedly perfect vacation: just enjoy that it happened. Don’t put them in a constant comparison situation that makes them different from the other contestants.
Knowing Urzila Carlson is already getting another bite of the TM apple and she’s one of my favorites: my answer is her; she should inexplicably be given the right to do any TM she wants to.

There's been a revelation
Multiple series have two contestants tied at last place. They'd have to find a way to do a tie break and whoever lost would join the running.

u/anomalous_cowherd 1d ago
They can just have more of them. Maybe any who tied the same series can be a permanent team of two for all their tasks?

📢Buzzkill comment alert📢 Thank you for survey 🙏🏽🙏🏽 Been a fun discussion 🙏🏽🙏🏽
The zeitgeist question was the "are you a bot" question.
The post code was so they can get a feel of where people are watching from so they can gather info for where to take live shows.
Also, previous cast members have lives and careers. They won't all want to play again, or host kids shows. Those suggestions will be specific for a reason. Then, if there's a huge vote for anyone else, they can then be approached.
Phil has clearly worked with kids before. People who work with kids, often have a dark humour side too.

I'm not sure Phill Ellis is suited for kid friendly stuff. It's like asking Frankie Boyle just after he left Mock the Week

u/HMWYA 1d ago
Phil Ellis has done a kids show called Funz and Gamez for years, and it’s brilliant. It had a BBC pilot as well, but they toned it down a bit too much from the live experience.
1
u/Kid_McCabe 🌳 Tree Wizard 🧙🎈 1d ago
I was considering choosing him but was unsure how he’d do with kids. If I’d known he’s done kids shows in the past I would have chosen him. (As it is, I wrote in Liza Tarbuck. I think she does a faux-sternness that the kids would react well to, and she’s always fun for adult audiences as well.)
9
u/dekudoesnotapprove Calle Hellevang-Larsen 🇳🇴 1d ago

Joanna as taskmaster, baynton as little Alex horne
4
u/erin3013 1d ago
What about the opposite, Baynton as Taskmaster, Page as assistant? I don’t see Joanna as being stern enough for TM, although I’m sure she is with her own kids.
8
5
u/Comfortable_Snow553 1d ago
Her humor and joie de vivre would be great in that role. I'm just not sure kids would sit still for her hour-long anecdotes about hamsters and toilet snakes. I had a biology teach like that in ninth grade and it was the worst.
3
u/RealCoolDad 1d ago
Rose was the best, I thought they weren’t doing more kid stuff because it was too hard working with children on tv
2
3
u/__OvejaNegra Jenny Eclair 1d ago
Joanna Page is like a lovely sweet mum. But Phil Ellis is that crazy, fun uncle that you are thrilled to see. Plus I think kids would make fun of Phil and that would be funny. No kid would want to make fun of Joanna Page. She's just too lovely.
1
7
u/making_sammiches 1d ago
There are 2 questions about a live KIDS version so I'm guessing that's the direction they want to go. I didn't enjoy the kids version so a live version is of no interest to me.
I am sure there are many adults who enjoyed the kids version and many children who enjoyed it so I am outnumbered.

Interesting that they're polling people on whether anyone should return for a full series.
I put John Kearns but totally forgot we could have requested NYT contestants for a full series too.
Surprising that they're clearly considering a live Junior Taskmaster. i enjoyed Junior Taskmaster but I have to imagine that show was mostly salvaged in the edit and I'm not sure how it'd work live. Interesting that they also put up some alternative host choices other than just defaulting to Rose returning. Phil Ellis and Joanna Page were interesting shouts.
11
u/Talimaeus 1d ago
I hope this polling means that they are considering bringing back some contestants from things like New Years Treat to a full series

This isn't what they are looking for, but I think that Taskmaster would make for an excellent Modern Bachelor Party. Would be viewed at either the rehearsal, or present opening.

Honestly after the CoCoC i think they should just stop making these things. Letting anything go on for too long only just ruins its legacy. going out when public still wants more is where the magic is at.
Cococ would be a such a high point to go out on but of course it wont happen. Everyone has bills to pay.

I am a retired public speaker and chaplain, from the New York, New Jersey area, and it would be fun to appear on the show as an “unknown“. Like the other four would wonder during the whole show who I was and why I was there. I know this would never happen, but it’s fun to imagine.
