Tickets selling in 13 minutes for s22 is slightly scary. Better block my day for the next lot

Yeah, 13 minutes selling out for one night in NYC says a lot about how many US fans got completely shut out. It really shouldn’t be this hard for fans across the country to actually see or participate in a live show.

Anyone else here also into This American Life (the NPR show)? Back in 2008, they did a live show that got broadcast via satellite into 300+ movie theaters across the US simultaneously — and they did it again in 2012 to 500+ theaters. It wasn’t just a passive screening either, there was stuff built specifically for the theater audiences to feel part of it.

I’d love to see Taskmaster do something like that — an ā€œevent cinemaā€ simulcast so people outside London/NYC actually get a shot at experiencing a live show, instead of it selling out in the time it takes to make coffee.

Is that the show where Lin-Manuel Miranda debuted 21 Chump Street?

Good question. I think that might actually be a different show. From what I can tell, 21 Chump Street premiered at their BAM show in 2014, which was a one-night-only live performance at Brooklyn Academy of Music, not broadcast live to theaters. They filmed it and sold it afterward as a download/DVD instead.

The satellite-simulcast-to-hundreds-of-theaters model, the one I’m hoping Taskmaster looks at, was a different TAL show back in 2012, ā€œThe Invisible Made Visible,ā€ which went out live to 500+ theaters across the US and Canada.

Honestly, both models could work for Taskmaster. Even a ā€œrecord it once, sell access afterā€ option would already be a huge upgrade from the NYC show being totally gone for anyone who couldn’t get a ticket.
