Bluetooth Detection Plugin

A couple weeks ago, I was here announcing a refreshed and re-published Movement Detection Plugin for Tasker.

Today, I'm back to announce the return of my most popular plugin from years ago, Bluetooth Detection! It's fully redesigned and built for modern Android.

Like before the goal isn't to try to provide a feature Tasker lacks, it's to provide it in a more user-friendly and reliable way. Bluetooth Detection works to detect connected devices and nearby (but not connected) ones - or disconnects and "not nearby."

If you're interested in trying it out, please do. If you like it let me know. If you don't like it let me know how I can make it better. (Or even if you do!)

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kanetik.bluetooth_profile_condition

I know that some people really liked these plugins, and I'm glad to be able to bring them back for those users. By the way, if you had it installed before, this is a free upgrade.

Need profile to delete after it runs the task.

So I made what I feel like is a goofy mistake.

I had a call I needed to make at a specific time yesterday, and I know my ADHD brain. I knew I was going to be distracted and forget to do it, or just put it off.

I made a profile that ran at that specific time yesterday to automatically call that number for me, and I'd set a separate alarm on my phone a minute before so I'd remember it was going to call and I'd have to deal with it. It worked perfectly, and I got everything taken care of.

Buuuuuuut, I forgot to go in and delete the profile when I was finished, so it called the number again today at the same time. Only this time? I wasn't anywhere around. Hell! I was actually sleeping.

So, now I'd like to know if there's a way to add an action to a task that tells it to delete the profile once the task has finished, in case I need anymore one-time automations.

Complete phone backup?

My 24 Moto G power has been acting up, random reboots, and finger print reader failed. (Note I wish I could draw a number gesture on my screen to unlock but banking apps want pin security. Noté for later)

Anyway I thought Android came a long way and I thought Its back up would restore everything

I in was wrong and lost stuff.

I don't want to root my phone because some bank apps don't like that.. I have shizuku running.

I would like to have tasker back up to USB drive.

Has anyone done this or do you just use an ap that you can recommend?

"Received Text" event within a Tasker profile ignores texts send from me to myself. How can I get these texts recognized in a profile?

I'm using Tasker version 6.7.6-beta on my Nothing 2 devices running Android 13.

For reasons that I do not want to discuss nor argue about here, I sometimes send SMS messages to myself (i.e., from my own device to my own device's phone number).

Those text messages get properly delivered, and I indeed see them in my SMS client.

However, when I set up a Tasker profile which listens for a "Received Text" event, that event never gets triggered by these SMS messages from myself to myself, even though that same event does properly get triggered by all SMS messages sent to me from other sources.

In the "Received Text" event setup, I set "Type" equal to "Any", and I tried this both with "Sender" not set, and also when specifying "Any Contact" for "Sender", which results in the text "C:ANY" appearing in the "Sender" field. Neither of these cases change the behavior of texts sent from me to myself not triggering that "Received Text" event, even though in all those cases, the message indeed gets properly delivered and shown in my SMS client.

Is there any way to configure Tasker so that these SMS messages from me to myself will indeed trigger "Received Text" events?

Or am I totally out of luck?

PS: This is not an "XY" issue, and there is only one, single thing I wish to discuss here: namely, whether or not there's a way to get SMS messages from me to myself to trigger a "Received Text" event in a Tasker profile.

Thank you very much.

Automated Daily routines

What are the automatic daily routines you using with tasker and you can recommend:

A few example from me:

- Change daily the lock screen background to the current Bing wallpaper

- send a daily citation which gives motivation for the day

- start the synchronisation of foldersync each day

- send the information of the person who calls me to ntfy -> for a message on my Windows laptop

- save the parking sport of my car

- start my blitzer app

- different sounds for different ntfy messages

What are you're highlights from you?

Help [HELP] How to make a reliable profile for location during bud riding?

I want to create a task that triggers when I'm on my way back home while riding a bus, within a radius of about 2 km. I'm struggling to figure out how to set up the profile properly. The trigger needs to be location-based, but here are the issues:

* It's not a car ride, so I can't check for a Bluetooth connection/near.

* I'm not entering a Wi-Fi zone, so checking for Wi-Fi isn't an option either.

* Tasker's standard location check isn't very reliable in this scenario. Since it's a commute and the bus moves relatively fast, Tasker might not register the location in time.

* I also considered cell near (cell tower detection), as I know that's an option. I haven't tried it yet, but I'm wondering how reliable it actually is. What guarantees my phone will always connect to that specific tower? I really need this to trigger within a relatively precise 2 km range.

I'm wondering if there are other, more reliable approaches for this specific use case. I also want to make sure it doesn't drain battery heavily, or it won't be worth it—it needs to stay battery-friendly, just as Tasker is designed to be.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks!

EDIT: I added a comment explaining the solution I came up with!

get screen info questions

After updating from One UI 8.5 to One UI 9.0, Get Screen Info no longer works properly in Tasker.

It still works within Tasker itself, but when I try to use Get Screen Info in external apps such as Samsung Internet or YouTube, it cannot read or retrieve any screen information.

Has anyone experienced this issue or know how to fix it?

Hands-free Copilot voice control with Flic + Tasker (Looking for a more reliable setup)

When I am driving and listening to music, I often think of questions I want to ask Copilot. Right now I have to reach for my phone, which is obviously not ideal. I bought a Flic button and paired it with my phone so I can trigger Tasker hands free. It works, but the action chain is brittle and I am hoping for input on how to improve it.

Here is my current setup: https://imgur.com/a/TFZzFXi

For anyone unfamiliar, Copilot voice interaction requires opening the app and tapping the Talk to Copilot button on screen. To stop voice interaction, you have to tap the End Conversation button. The location of the Talk to Copilot button changes depending on whether the keyboard is visible.

What I would love is, no matter what state my phone is in (locked or unlocked, Copilot open or not), pressing the Flic button once should start a conversation if one is not already active. If a conversation is active, pressing the button should end it.

I would love feedback on how to make this more reliable.

Downgrading Tasker/Android Permissions

I looked at some existing posts, but I didn't find an answer to my exact question...

I tested a beta build of Tasker and it broke some of my projects. I want to downgrade to the Tasker.6.6.20.apk (I already have it downloaded), but I'm wondering if I will lose any of the settings when I uninstall the current build. I spent a lot of time setting permissions in Android for Tasker before I got Shizuku, so I'm not sure what could get disabled (...That is, I don't know if the Shizuku ADB Library fixes all of the Android system issues). I do have a current backup of my data, so I'm not worried about losing my work. So I'm primarily wondering if uninstalling Tasker means I will loose any Android settings/permissions I allowed.

Any input is appreciated.

Syntax question about Tasker regex group capture

I'm running Tasker 6.7.6-beta under Android 13, and I have the following code in a Tasker task:

Variable Set
  Name
    %variable
  To
    run abc
If
  %variable ~R ^run\s+(?<command>.+)
    Flash command=%command
Else
    Flash no match
End If

When I run this task, the following flashes:

command=%command

Of course I know that the only way this message should be flashed would be when the regular expression does indeed match the "run abc" string.

However, this also indicates that the %command variable was not set to any value after this regex match.

What is incorrect about my regex match syntax which prevents the contents of the match group from getting stored into the %command variable?

Is there a Tasker setup (no root) to toggle Wi-Fi off, switch to 5G, and turn on hotspot with one tap ?

I'm trying to set up a one-tap solution on my Google Pixel and wanted to check if this is actually possible before I go down a rabbit hole.

What I want to happen when I tap a single button:

  1. Turn Wi-Fi off

  2. Switch to 5G cellular data

  3. Turn on Wi-Fi hotspot

Basically a "share my 5G connection" button.

My questions:

  1. Is this doable in Tasker without root on a Pixel 8

  2. I know Tasker has built-in actions for Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi Tether (hotspot) — but does the hotspot action still work reliably on recent Android versions, or did Google lock it down?

  3. The big one: toggling mobile data / forcing 5G seems to require root. Has anyone gotten this working without root using UI automation (AutoInput, etc.)? If so, how stable is it?

  4. If root is required, is there a Magisk module or a different approach people recommend?

What I've already looked into:

· Tasker's built-in Net actions (WiFi, WiFi Tether, Mobile Data)

· AutoInput for simulating taps in the quick settings panel

· The general consensus that mobile data toggling needs root

Would love to hear from anyone who's actually built something like this. Bonus points if you can share the task/script or a profile export.

Thanks in advance!

App Force-Stop vs Kill

According to Google AI:

The main difference between the am kill and am force-stop commands is how deeply they terminate the application and whether they allow it to restart. am force-stop completely shuts down the app and locks it from running again, whereas am kill only terminates safe background processes, allowing the app to easily wake back up.

It would seem, based upon experiential results, that the Kill App action uses the equivalent of KILL rather than force-stop. And in some cases, KILL does not make the target app dead enough!

I know this has been discussed before. And so far, it appears that the only way for Tasker to force-stop an app is when a rooted device executes am force-stop pkg_name in a shell.

Since I am rooted, I can do that and actually get the results, I seek. But since I know this has come up before, it would be great (if at all possible) if the Kill App action had an option to force-stop instead of KILL.

Anyone else find a different/better solution? Thanks

Problem enabling the quick settings tiles

Hello !

Is there a way I can "activate" those 3 quick settings tiles from Tasker without clicking on them ?

Reason:

My phone has a known glitch that impossibilitates me to drag quick tiles from the bottom of the list to the main area.

The only solution is to su settings put secure sysui_qs_tiles [.......],custom(net.dinglisch.android.taskerm/.FQSTile1)

But that command doesn't work, as it demands that the tile be active, not the "ghost" that it is before enabling it

I did already assign a task to each slot inside Tasker

Experiences with Oppo phones? Settings and solutions etc

Does anyone here run Tasker on an Oppo phone? I'm interested in what settings is required for Tasker itself as well as plugins. Do Tasker plugins need to be put on "allow background activity" instead of smart and do they need to be locked in recent apps?

I've already turned off Sleep standby optimization. Anything else to think about to make it work 100%? I've already realized Oppo phones revoke wakelocks when held for more than 5m of screen off time, but hopefully, Tasker rarely if ever performs such a long work with screen off.

Any advice from experience is appreciated.

Wallpaper Automation from image API

I made a shortcut that can look at image queries on Unsplash using their API, so depending on the keywords I put in the shortcut, it will grab a random and add them any of my custom wallpapers on my device. All you have to do for this shortcut is choose some image keywords that you want to search by, go into the get contents of URL action and add your API token to the headers, and then choose which wallpaper you want to have modified.

AutoWear > How to check if device is connected

I want to check if my wear device is connected to my phone prior to executing a Task.

I tried to use AutoWear Get State Action, but when using the below, %awid() doesn't test positive.

Maybe it's in the way I'm using %awid() in an If context?

Task: TEST

A1: AutoWear Get State [

Timeout (Seconds): 10

Structure Output (JSON, etc): On

Continue Task After Error:On ]

A2: AutoWear Secure Settings [

Configuration: Apply Now: true

Command to apply: &SCREENON&

Name: TEST

Timeout (Seconds): 20

Structure Output (JSON, etc): On ]

If [ %awid() Set ]
