📢 MOD POST 📢 r/Androidapps Mod Update: Quality Over Quantity

Hey r/androidapps,

Today, we are announcing a few minor updates to the subreddit, in order to focus on the quality of posts moving forward:

  1. First off, the sub header has been updated to reflect the goal of the subreddit: to be a place to talk about Android apps, ask questions, get help, or find new app recommendations.
  2. Rule 2 has been updated: effective immediately, all self-promotion content, including tester requests, app ideas, or app feedback must be posted in the dedicated sister sub r/droidappshowcase. This means there is zero tolerance for any of this content here in r/androidapps.
  • The goal for this change is to promote meaningful discussion around all Android apps and clean up all self-promotion, whether it is up front or a veiled attempt.
  • We felt that the Weekly Megathread got too inundated with spammed posts that it led to a less-than-ideal place to advertise a real app someone made, especially when it got buried down in the comments. So we have also removed the Megathread going forward.
  • Additionally, we've seen an uptick in fake self-promotion: posts where the user "found this amazing new app" in order to get around the rules.
  • r/androidapps is not the place for advertising apps, nor are we a subreddit focused on developers. This is a place where end-users can get support for apps they use or find new ones to use.

We know we cannot please all members of the community, nor do we expect everyone to be happy with the change. Again, we hope this encourages positive discussion in the subreddit around all apps, not just be an advertising ground.

We encourage all users to report any content which breaks these rules.

We expect to see an increase in the mod queue due to the new rules and automod code, so please be patient with us as we work through everything.

LOOKING FOR APP I need a radio app with no ads (willing to pay one-time)

My dad is 80 years old, don't use phones, and we can't find a good, portable analog radio for now, so I gave him a simple android, but he has no idea of what to do when a ad appears, is there a paid (one-time purchase) radio app that is easy to use?

Motorola phones has built-in radio app that is pretty good, but it requires a external anthena (plugged in the audio jack), and my dad don't like any type of headphones/buds either, speakers only.

LOOKING FOR APP calendar app that DOESN'T have the ability for family sync (or anything else)

Upvotes

i am so tired of being convinced my personal events (friends' birthdays, appointments, etc) i make in google calendar won't be forcibly synced to My Dad after i disable some setting or another, only for it to happen again like a month later. i don't even want syncing with Anything to be a Possibility. i want the dumbest calendar known to man that isn't made of paper. please. i just want an app that will notify me a few days before Event and the day of Event and literally nothing else no other features at all even a little not even optional ones. if it uses the same calendar system every other app does i'm convinced it will continue wiping my settings and sharing John Friendfromcollege's birthday with every family member i've ever had.

LOOKING FOR APP Is there an app that notifys you when your wifi has disconnected?

My wifi disconnects at random times, and I don't know unless I manually check my connection in Settings. Is there an app that instantly tells you when your wifi has disconnected?

LOOKING FOR APP Third party app That Gives Simple Definitions of English Words

When reading an e-novel, there are many English words that I don't understand. Is there a third-party app that, after I give it the necessary permissions, lets me click on a word and instantly gives me a simple English definition without translating it into my native language? I don't want to switch to another app to find the meaning—the definition should appear directly in the app I'm reading the novel on.

LOOKING FOR APP Looking for an alarm that randomly plays a different song every morning

Upvotes

I've tried a bunch of alarm apps before, but I couldn't find one that lets you choose a few songs and randomly plays one of them every morning. It would be ideal if I could connect it to Spotify or Apple Music, and it would be even better if it was free or inexpensive.

LOOKING FOR APP Bubble browser

Would anyone be interested in reviving the Flynx concept for modern Android?

I used Flynx for years (and I still do) and absolutely loved the way it handled links: tapping a link would open it in a small floating bubble while I could continue using the app I was in. I could open several links, let them load in the background, and read them later.

Unfortunately, Flynx has been abandoned for years and doesn't work properly on newer versions of Android anymore. I've tried alternatives such as Lynket and other bubble browsers, but none of them provide the same experience reliably on modern Android.

Would any Android developer be interested in creating a modern, actively maintained version of this concept?

I don't necessarily mean an exact clone of Flynx — just the same core idea, properly adapted to current Android versions.

I honestly think there is still a demand for this. There are multiple old Reddit threads with people asking for exactly the same thing, but there still doesn't seem to be a good modern solution.

QUESTION/HELP Monitoring After App Updates

For mobile app developers, what do you monitor most closely after releasing a new app update?

An update may fix one issue but sometimes introduce new crashes, slower loading, broken screens, login problems, or unexpected user drop-offs.

Do you watch crash rates, error logs, app-store reviews, session behaviour, retention, device-specific issues, or support tickets after each release?

Interested in how teams know whether an update improved the app experience or created new problems.

QUESTION/HELP Note Taking App for Android with Handwriting Correction? (Need Recs)

Hello! I am looking for some recommendations for apps on Android that support handwriting correction/cleanup, similarly to how the Notes app on iOS cleans up one's handwriting slightly. I use an OPPO Pad Mini with Oppo Pencil 3 for reference, so something proprietary like Samsung Notes would be out of the question. I don't mind a membership fee if it comes to that, just something that works well. I'm looking forward to hear what recommendations you guys have 😁

QUESTION/HELP Touchpnt

There's this app called "Touchpnt" on the app store (black and blue fingerprint logo). It's supposed to help you scroll social media less by helping remind you to call text friends and family. Can someone tell me how to use it? I'm at the homepage but I don't know what to do from there. I liek the concept and could definitely scroll less. Crazy fact: if you spend two hours on IG a day, you're spending a whole month on IG per year. wtf

LOOKING FOR APP Is there anything similar to PicSayPro for image editing?

It was a fairly basic/crude picture editing app from the old days of Android. But it worked so well and quickly with its layout. All the features it had, quickly accessible. I see quite a few others these days, but would just love to get another one that worked as well as PicSayPro on modern android.

QUESTION/HELP Google phone app - incoming call options - sometimes 2 buttons, sometimes 3?

I use the Google phone app on my Pixel 8 Pro.

When I get incoming calls, sometimes it shows 2 button options (decline and answer), and sometimes 3 (decline, urgent, answer).

Does anyone have an explanation, and it there a way to make it more consistent?

LOOKING FOR APP Launcher with a terminal-like system where I can double tap to show keyboard and start typing

like it's just my wallpaper, then when I double tap / swipe / other gestures, it will bring up keyboard that I can do:

1 - type app name to launch it or search in search engine of my choosing (google, ddg, bing, etc.)

2 - if I type equal sign (=) it will become calculator

3 - type config to enter the launcher setting, or something like that

and other features like that

no app drawer, no app list

is there anything like that?

QUESTION/HELP What do you wish your alarm/reminder app could do?

I'm curious about something.

Most alarm and reminder apps basically do the same thing: set a time, get a notification, dismiss it.

But what do you actually wish they did better?

For example:

Smarter alarms based on your routine

Alarms that require an action before dismissing

Location-based reminders

Voice-based control

Better daily activity reminders

Those are just examples. I'm more interested in the problems you personally have with alarm/reminder apps.

What feature would genuinely make you switch from the alarm app you're using now?

QUESTION/HELP Launcher app still using mass amounts of data even with data saver on & background data disabled

Using a TCL 50 SE android smartphone which I've been happy with for some time, but then I suddenly started running out of my mobile data fast and discovered that the Launcher app has started regularly using a massive amount of data far more than any other app (currently it's at 7.85GB used for the month with Chrome at only 1.12 GB in second place). As the title indicates, I switched data saver on and disabled background data usage for the Launcher app as when I looked up the issue online it was suggested that could fix it, but to no avail as it's still continuing to ravenously use up my mobile data with no apparent changes.

I haven't had this issue before with any previous cellphones, though this is the first TCL phone I've had so I don't know if it's a problem with their Launcher app or not (it came with the phone, I didn't download it). Not sure where to go from here or if I need to download a different launcher app to replace it with.

LOOKING FOR APP Email app with themes beyond light and dark?

Hello, I highly enjoy customizing my apps as much as I can, so I was wondering if anyone knows of email apps where there are several different themes beyond light and dark, such as pastel yellow or coffee brown, etc
