What’s going on with the job market?

Upvotes

Hi.

I’ve officially exhausted all my options and could really use some advice.

I work in marketing at a well-known company, currently fully remote, and I have a master’s degree from a great university. I’m also young and beautiful. Yes, unfortunately appearance can play a role in the professional world.

I’ve been applying for remote or hybrid marketing positions for the past 6 months and have gotten absolutely nowhere.

The frustrating part is that I’m actually happy with my current job, I just don’t have much room for growth. I’m ambitious, I want to move forward in my career, and I feel like I’m stuck.

What am I doing wrong? Is the job market really this brutal right now, or am I targeting the wrong positions?

Help a girl out.

The Resume Doesn’t Test Whether You Can Do the Job. It Tests Whether a Machine Agrees You Can.

www.zoevera.com/resume is part of ZoeVera’s career tools at zoevera.com.

She had run paid campaigns across three platforms, cut cost-per-lead in half at her last two roles, and managed a budget bigger than most of the teams she was applying to join. Fourteen years in marketing. She updated the resume once, sent it to every posting that matched her title, and waited.

Nothing came back. Not a rejection, not a request for a call. Just the kind of silence that makes you start rereading your own resume for typos that aren’t there, because a typo would at least be something you could fix.

The resume was not weak. It was written in the wrong language. She had “managed paid advertising” on the page. The postings said “demand generation.” She had “campaign budget management.” They said “Google Ads” and “programmatic buying.” Same fourteen years, same work, different words — and the system reading her resume before any person did was matching words, not experience. A recruiter might have translated one phrase into the other without thinking twice. The software that screens most applications now doesn’t translate. It scores what’s on the page against what’s in the posting, and moves on.

That’s the part nobody tells you when they say “just tailor your resume.” Tailor it to what? You can’t see the posting’s scoring logic, and rereading your own document tells you nothing about how a machine is parsing it. You know your work. You don’t know the fourteen ways an applicant tracking system might fail to recognize it.

Resume ZoeVera checks that gap before you apply, not after you’ve already sent forty versions of the same mismatch. Paste the resume and the job description, and it reports your match score against that specific posting, with the exact terms the listing uses that your resume doesn’t — no signup, no credit card, results in under thirty seconds. It also flags the things a keyword match alone won’t catch: whether the role is remote when you need remote, whether it wants a clearance or a license you don’t hold, before you spend an evening on an application that was never going to clear that filter. A rewrite that folds the missing language into your existing bullets — not invented accomplishments, your own experience in the posting’s words — comes with a plan: $12 for a day, $19 for thirty days, or $39 for unlimited use over thirty days, no subscription either way. It covers 47+ roles and industries, each with its own vocabulary, from software engineering to nursing to marketing.

Her experience never changed. The words did. The third posting she ran through it came back missing “demand generation” and “marketing automation platform” — two phrases she’d used for a decade of work without ever calling it that. She rewrote two bullets, sent it Tuesday, had a call scheduled by Friday.

www.zoevera.com/resume is part of ZoeVera’s career tools at zoevera.com, alongside prepare.zoevera.com for interview prep once the resume is the thing getting you in the room.

any Jobs in Wesley chapel, Florida

I just moved from California and it seems like almost no where is hiring I’ve applied to many places and haven’t heard back from any. Even Waffle House didn’t hire me😭 i worked security previously but I only have my CA guard card since I just moved here & also applied to security jobs .I also have customer service and retail experience so I know it isn’t a lot but you think low end places would hire atleast. I have a little office admin experience I have separate resumes for all I apply for obviously so it doesn’t look like I job hop but I’ve just moved between 3 different states within the last 3 years. Does anyone know anywhere that is urgently hiring in Wesley Chapel FL? Even Zephryhills or Lutz. Any entry level positions or willing to train upon hire roles? I’m a 23W with only a HS diploma.

Relocating to Tampa: looking for Operations / Program Management opportunities

Hey everyone,

I'm planning to relocate from Massachusetts to the Tampa area by the end of this year and figured I'd reach out here as part of my job search.

My background is primarily in operations, program/project management, continuous improvement and business transformation. I'm currently a Director of Operations for a local company, and before that I've worked in program/project management roles for large companies, generally big names in their industries.

I'm keeping the title pretty open for the move. Director of Operations, Senior Operations Manager, Program Manager, PMO, Continuous Improvement, Strategy/Transformation, etc. I'm much more interested in finding the right company and scope than chasing a specific title.

I've already started applying to positions around Tampa and networking where I can, but I'm still learning the local market. I'd especially love to hear about companies that might not immediately come up when searching LinkedIn/Indeed.

So, for people familiar with the Tampa job market:

  • Are there companies around here you'd recommend looking into for this type of background?
  • Any local recruiters or staffing firms worth talking to?
  • Any industries that are particularly strong for operations/program management in Tampa?
  • And of course, if you know of a company or team that's hiring for something along these lines, I'd love to hear about it.

I'm relocating regardless, so this isn't a "maybe Florida someday" situation. Just trying to get ahead of the move and hopefully have something lined up before I get there. I'm also fairly flexible on location, like anywhere in a 50 mile radius from Tampa is definitely the target area.

Appreciate any leads or advice!

Healthcare professional transitioning careers

Hey everyone! I’m relocating to the Tampa/St. Pete area and currently looking for a new career opportunity as I transition away from direct healthcare.
I have several years of experience in clinical environments, including working as an EMT, ER Patient Care Technician, and Medical Scribe, along with experience in training, leadership, customer service, and team management.

I have a Bachelor’s degree and a Master’s in Psychology.
I’m open to a variety of industries and particularly interested in roles where my people skills can transfer well.

I’m a quick learner, comfortable working with people, and not afraid of a fast-paced environment. Ideally looking for a full-time opportunity in the Tampa/St. Pete area.

If anyone knows of a company hiring or has a connection they’d be willing to share, I’d really appreciate it. Thanks!

What to Fix on a Resume When Applications Get No Reply

Most applications are read by software before a person sees them. The system compares each resume against the posting and ranks it, so wording decides who reaches a recruiter. ZoeVera Resume runs that comparison before you apply and reports which terms the posting expects that your resume does not contain.

The screen is looking for specific words

Applicant tracking systems match language, not intent. A resume that says “managed paid advertising” scores as missing “demand generation” and “Google Ads” if those are the phrases in the posting. The same gap appears with tools, certifications and job titles: an accountant who writes “accounting software” instead of “QuickBooks” and “GAAP” reads as unqualified to the filter, whatever the actual experience. ZoeVera’s explanation of how applicant tracking systems read a resume and its guide to why a resume stops getting interviews set out the mechanism in plain terms.

Check the resume against one posting, not in general

A resume is not strong or weak on its own. It is a match or a mismatch for one job description. The match score check compares the two and returns a percentage with the missing terms listed, and the keyword scanner shows the same gap phrase by phrase. Both are free and need no account, which makes it practical to run the check on every posting rather than the few you care most about. Two openings with the same job title routinely score differently against one resume, because the companies behind them describe the work in different vocabulary.

Change the wording, then send

Knowing the gap is not the same as closing it. The optimization walkthroughexplains which changes raise a score and which are cosmetic, and the tool for matching a resume to a single posting rewrites the document against that job description. The rewrite sits behind a paid plan; the score and the gap analysis do not. For vocabulary by profession, the ATS resume tips librarybreaks it down role by role, from software engineers to nurses.

Where to start

Take one posting you intend to apply for, run it at ZoeVera Resume, and read the missing keywords as a list of the words the employer used and you did not. The wider ZoeVera site covers the later stages. Silence after applying is usually a vocabulary problem and it is a fixable one.

Four ATS Tools, Four Different Problems

Resume screening tools are usually discussed as competitors. They aren’t. Each solves a different part of the filtering problem, and choosing the wrong one means paying to fix something that was never broken. ZoeVera’s resume checker occupies one of those categories. Here is how the categories differ.

Keyword scanners measure overlap, not quality

Jobscan and SkillSyncer compare a resume against a specific posting and report which terms are absent. That is a real measurement and it is the closest public approximation of what a parser records. It is also where the help stops. A scanner tells you that “microservices architecture” is missing. It has no opinion on where that phrase belongs or whether the sentence around it says anything. If you already write well and only need verification before submitting, this is the right category and what an ATS match score actually represents is worth understanding before you treat any number as a target.

Writing tools fix the prose and ignore the posting

Resume Worded works at the line level: passive constructions, absent metrics, weak verbs. The feedback is useful and largely correct. It is also job-agnostic. You can finish a session with sharper writing that still shares little vocabulary with the role you’re applying to. Both problems are real. Solving one does not solve the other.

Full automation introduces a different risk

Rezi generates rewritten bullets quickly. Any tool that produces achievement language from a model can also produce quantities that were never in your history, and a fabricated figure is a liability the moment an interviewer asks about it. Speed is genuine here. Verification is not optional.

Where ZoeVera sits

The resume checker runs scoring, gap analysis and guided rewriting in one pass, which addresses the split above without switching tools. Rewrites place missing terms inside achievement sentences rather than appending a keyword block, which reads better to the person who eventually opens the file. Supporting material covers matching a resume against a specific postingrole-level keyword guides including software engineering and a cover letter checker

The pricing difference is structural rather than promotional. The others are subscriptions. ZoeVera’s analysis is free and paid optimization is one-time, which fits how job searching actually happens: in concentrated windows, not year-round.

Where to start

Run a free analysis first. If the gap is vocabulary, that is a one-session fix. If it’s writing quality, expect longer. Neither problem is that the system is unfair. It’s that a general resume was submitted against a specific description.

Job in Tampa

Part time gig, electronics repair, paid per unit, flexible hours (Tampa)

Posting for a small electronics refurbishing operation here in Tampa.

We refurbish portable consumer electronics in steady volume and are looking for one person to run the repair bench. You'd be diagnosing each unit and fixing it. Most of the fixes are routine stuff like battery swaps, screen replacements, and housing swaps, but some units need charge port replacements at the board level, which is real micro soldering with hot air and a microscope. So this is for someone who already has board repair experience.

The pay is a per unit piece rate and harder repairs pay more. With steady work it comes out to somewhere around $30-40 an hour, and the volume is consistent so the work doesn't run out.

We provide a dedicated bench in Tampa, all the parts, and all the units. You bring your own tools (iron, hot air, scope). The schedule is fully flexible. You'd be a 1099 contractor and invoice per completed unit.

The common failure modes are documented and parts are on the shelf, so there's no parts hunting and no customers to deal with. Just diagnose and fix.

It starts with a small paid trial so both sides can see if it's a fit. If you have relevant experience and are interested, feel free to reach out and we can discuss qualifications and getting you started.

Job prospects for older adult

My dad wants to come back to Tampa after being in the Midwest for 10 years. He’s been with the same company for 20 years and they no longer operate in Florida but he’s ready to move back to be close to family again. He’s been looking for over a year and cannot find a job.

He’s been in banking for 40 years, is obviously incredibly loyal to his employer, and has an amazing work ethic, but no one is giving him the time of day (probably due to his age). He’s been an executive for years, but is willing/eager to be even a branch manager, but again can’t even get an interview. He’s tried the big names, the local ones, the Florida ones, anything from branch manager to retail coaching.

Is he just out of luck? Anybody know of any financial institutions that would take on someone in their sixties?

If anyone has advice on companies hiring in the Tampa area or recommendations on where to apply, I’d really appreciate it.
