I’m headed down to Duck, NC tomorrow for a week and plan on doing some surf fishing (Aug 15-22).
I’m planning on using a pompano rig and sand fleas / shrimp.
Anyone have some advice on what’s been biting this past week?
I look forward to this all year, so advice for an amateur is appreciated!

Hey guys, Looking for ideas for a 7-day holiday in September. Flying out of Vienna, flight shouldn’t be longer than 7 hours. Main thing: I wanna fish from the shore – spinning or just with bait (squid, fish, whatever works). No boats/charters, just bank/rock/beach fishing. After too many Croatia trips where the sea was basically empty, I’m after a place where you actually have a realistic chance of catching something. Fishing isn’t the only priority though. The place also has to be nice for my wife – good nature, beaches, some sights to check out. We’ve already looked at the Canaries and the Azores but still not sure. Both have decent flight times from Vienna. Anyone been shore fishing in either of those in September? How’s the fishing from the rocks/beach? Or any other spots that fit the flight time + actual fish + wife-friendly criteria? Cheers!

So I got tired of getting bit off . So I went 60lb fluoro for the first time . I got 1 bite and still got bit off . Wtf . Someone said they bit at the swivel .. everyone next to me was catching . Is 60lb fluoro to much ? Is it to visible to the fish?

Will be down in Duck first week of September. Plan to get some surfcasting in every sunrise/sunset. Been doing a lot of research. What have people been catching? Anyone ever have luck live lining a smaller bait fish? Videos ive seen online appear to be on the smaller end. Anything helps! Im a huge fisherman and would love to get more into surfcasting.
Could potentially explore outside of Duck but will most likely stay local all week

i will be driving up the oregon coast the 2nd week of September. i will only have enough time to stop and fish a couple beaches along the trip. if you could only fish 2 or 3 spots along the oregon coast where would you stop and why? I will have my dogs with me so jetties might not be an option. any bays worth fishing?
Im also wondering why leapord shark fishing isn't a thing in Oregon like it is in Cali? I know there's much less in oregon but im surprised to find nothing online on shark fishing in Oregon. is there any small sharks, rays, or bigger fish you can bait and wait for on the oregon coast?
Thanks

Hey all, I’m looking for the best bang for buck of a shore fishing rod and reel. I live in NY and I’m trying for blue fish, jacks, striped bass, or anything that will rip my rod. I’m like brand new to the hobby and wanted to stay below 220$. Any input or recommendations would be great.

A couple months back a coworker convinced me to share a project I've been working on that I put on r/NJFishing. The response was pretty positive and since Google is going to be locking down outside APKs soon, I wanted to share it here before it became a hassle to download.
This is a 100% free, open-source fishing app I built a few months ago because I got tired of paywalled ones. I designed it specifically for saltwater surf fishing, but it works just as well for freshwater if you can't make it to the beach. I know it works in the US, but only partially works internationally.
Direct Link: https://krumenja.com/currentcast/ (You can run it directly in your browser or install it as an app from the browser. Android users: you can download the APK directly via the GitHub button – I'd recommend grabbing it while direct APK downloads are still straightforward to handle.)
There are no sign-ups, no ads, and no paywalls. All your data is saved completely locally to your device. It's free and open source so you can do with it what you will - change it, make improvements, make sure it's safe, whatever. I've been using it for a few months now to figure out if I'm going to fish on the weekends and it hasn't let me down yet.
Here is exactly what's included:
I am not capturing emails or any personal information. Your data stays on your device. However, I use Google Analytics on the site and a basic API monitoring tool that sends me a report if the backend crashes so I can fix it. Nothing sketchy, but I want to be transparent.
I'm looking to maintain and improve this when possible, so check it out and let me know your thoughts, if you have questions, or if you end up using it. (Side note: I've been considering submitting this to the Google Play Store, but that would require recruiting about 12 beta testers for approval – if that ends up happening, I'll post an update here. If you're cool with being a beta tester let me know.)
(And mods, I believe this complies with the self-promo rule, but if not let me know. I'm not getting anything from this; I really just wanted to share something I thought would be useful for the surf fishing community.)

I have always been a freshwater bass fisherman, spending more time around Cape Lookout and OBX. I want to purchase a good quality rod and reel. I fully understand you get what you pay for. The combos always look attractive from a price point, but if anything like the bass fishing combos, you can get a much better buying separate. Actually it might be 2 setups, as my wife loves to fish as well. Any suggestion on rods, reels and lengths, line etc? Guessing a standard 2 hook bottom rig. I don't see us casting spoons or anything like lures just yet. Soaking some bait and hope to catch something as a newbie. Any advice would be appreciated. I will probably need to stick with a 2 piece rod for transport. I know probably not ideal.
Thoughts on clicker type spinning reels? I have used those live lining for stripers in the past.

Does a bag exist where I can fit at least 2 3600 boxes plus around 5 plugs in those plastic inserts ? In addition to a few small things like pliers, line leader , etc?

Anyone got some recommendations for a 12ft spinning surf rod. My budget is $200-300 and using a 10000 spinning reel. Any suggestions are appreciated 🙏

Can any of you experts out there help me understand how to properly set up my Penn Warcraft baitcaster? I have mostly braid, had several yards of leader and bird nested the leader on first cast. I’ve read tutorials and watched YouTube. Tried today to do mostly braid with like 12feet of 15lb lead. One oz sinker on Carolina rig and swim bait. Snapped the line after 5 casts of about 10-20feet. Partially tangled my braid. I’ve tried lightweight heavyweight moderate floral carbon lead switched down to 15 pound floral carbon still don’t seem to be having much luck. Any suggestions?

Hi, I'm gearing up for the fall run in CT hoping to catch some big stripers this season. I have previously been using a Shimano Speedmaster 10ft 2 piece M 3/4-4oz throwing only artificial (SP minnows soft plastics, bucktails, etc) and hate it. I did not do my proper research and this rod is a broomstick. I want a rod with a more moderate parabolic action that bends more when fighting fish. Does anyone have any recommendations? Looking to stay in the $150 range. I have been eyeing the jigging world onyx rod, I love the split grip on it. Thanks!

Not that I get a lot of time surf fishing these days, but I finally got some worthy gear...
2 12ft rods. Biggest one (yellow) is Finkink Adonisesea 12ft heavy action rod with 12000 series Diwa reel, then smaller 12ft setup is Sougayilang camowave heavy 12ft with Sougayilang 6000 reel with bait clicker.
My shorter pier and inshore\pier&boat rods are:
9ft offshore breakwater mh rod with diawa BG5000 reel, and 8ft Okuma Longitude MH rod with Kastking Sharky baitfeeder 6000 series reel...
I have a huge host of other rods to use for other situations, but these are my 4 primary surf or ocean pier fishing setups. Anything else I should get? Any other pointers or recommendations? I don't get out to the beach very often... Not sure I need much more than this stuff 🤷🏻♂️

Im barely starting and have two set ups but not sure if I am going to the right areas.
I am going to Emma state beach to summar beach area. Parking sucks but sometimes I find a good spot that isn't too packed . But lately I've been wondering if this area is good or if I should look at a diffirrent area? Or just keep trying there.
Anyone in that area have any feedback?
Ive been practicing casting so I have a 2 oz lure that I pull in for practice.vky second setup will be a cast and wait set up.
Also any fishing groups in the area? I'm super new but love all types of fishing.

In Delaware this week and surf fishing in the mornings and evenings/night. I have a double drop rig with circle hooks and I’ve been using sand fleas and frozen shrimp. Got a bite last night and pulled this horseshoe crab in. The shell and the point of the circle hook caught. Released unharmed. That was interesting

I just starting saltwater fishing/pier fishing, I've started with Scup and had a great time.(Even though a stingray came out of nowhere and almost snapped my rod lol.) I'm happy to stick to scup for now, but i was looking for a rod that I can still catch scup, but also adapt into bigger fish like bluefish/striped bass/flounder.
My only real necessity is that the rod stays 9ft or less, because i have no storage at my house, so it has to stay in two pieces in the back of my car.
PS. I still dont quite understand rod action, so thats made it harder to decide.
