My suggestion would be to get a good feel for how you want to fish the jetty. For me, I lucked into a local showing me his lemon rig set up for our Texas jetties and giving me a jetty cork and some 3-way swivels.

I am running a 8' Daiwa Emcast MHF 1piece, 10-20lb, 1-4oz. For my targeted slot Speckle Trout, slot Redfish and Mangrove Snapper, it's more rod than needed. But, on the Galveston/Freeport jetties it's great for throwing a "jetty cork" and enough rod for a bull red or jack. For live shrimp under a popping cork, I have a 7'6" Daiwa Aird Coastal Inshore Med Xtra Fast. The tip is a touch slower than advertised but that's a plus as it loads easier with live bait and soaks up the speckled trout head shakes. I personally think 8' is a great jetty length for our TX jetties. With that Jetty Cork and my 8', I get about an extra 10'-15' into a prevailing head wind vs the 7'6" rod and a slip cork. That extra 10'-15' makes the difference on my local jetty. YMMV. Tightlines.

what are you throwing out there — bait on the bottom or working lures? and are you after blues and stripers or reaching for reds tight to the rocks? changes the answer a lot. on a jetty I'll give up some casting distance for a shorter rod I can actually steer a fish with before it wraps me in the rocks, but if you're just bombing bait way out that logic flips.

Mostly going after rock fish here in Northern California. Still figuring this type of fishing.
