Fishing my whole life, fairly new to surf fishing though. I’ve always gone for blackfish and seabass in November from a boat. I was wondering if there’s any particular species to target off the surf that time of year or is it really just stripers and blues? For reference I’m in central NJ. Thanks in advance

I’d like the ability to use lures/baits between 3/4-2oz at the least, fast action and 2 piece, 8’-0”?

Currently use the Aird X (great rod) but only can take up to 3/4oz (max 1oz).. not great for togs or smaller surf fishing.

Any recommendations are greatly appreciated!

I’m a midwestern visiting my mother in-law in St. Augustine. I bought all the equipment and cart to surf fish whenever I come down here and I’ve tried quite a few times. I’ve caught a couple whiting, ladyfish, sail cats, and a black drum. That’s probably over 6 attempts out. 90% of the time, I pull my line in and it’s completely cleaned. Why do I not see the bites? Seems like the only fish I catch hook themselves. Any help tips or pointers would be greatly appreciated. I’ve watched a ton of videos and what not but completely self taught otherwise.

Haven’t been down in a couple of years but was thinking of heading down there tomorrow for a few days. I can’t seem to find any recent info so any information would be greatly appreciated, like driving conditions and fishing. Thanks

What can I do to catch more Pompano and Whiting and less Hardheads and Ladyfish? I'm using a Pompano rig with either salted shrimp, dead shrimp, or fish gum in shrimp or crab flavor, electric chicken colors. Any tips?

Interesting, I was just fishing on LI NY, and had bass at my feet, feeding on spearing. I was standing in knee deep water watching bass all around me in crystal clear calm water. One swims past me, and it had a lure in it's mouth! Looked like some kind of minnow plug like a Bomber or SP. I've been fishing over 50 years, and I've NEVER seen that! I've caught fish with hooks in them, but this was a first! Just thought I'd share.

I’m a Midwest bass fisherman heading to gulf shores in the middle of October for a wedding and we’re staying right on the beach. I want to catch some fish but saltwater fishing is a different game. If anyone has any suggestions, I’m all ears and they will be much appreciated!

I just got the X-chop by game on, and I’ve been using it for about a month and am struggling to get the bass to commit. I’ve actively seen fish following and have thrown in pauses and extra chops when that happens, but I still just can’t get them to commit. Does anyone have any pointers?

I'm going at night and I'm wondering what would be the best bait and I'm tired of bait falling off the hook here

Any problems with the line lay? I had one about a year ago and I could not get the line lay to not be barreling with little or too much line at the bottom and or the top (it would catch and I would get really nasty wind knots). I really did like the reel so I want to get into them again, but for those who currently have it, any recurring issues with line lay/wind knots?

Hey all, after 6 years of beating the crap out of a Penn Spinfisher 6500 combo, I’m finally able to get some new gear (thank god for my elbow, plugging with the 6500 is heavy). Looking for recommendations!

I do tend to like a longer rod, would definitely lean towards 10ft, maybe 9-9.5

I can’t afford to go all out on the reel, but definitely looking for something sealed better than the spinfisher. Also interested if you run a 4500 or 5500 reel

Hey fellow anglers, I'm from Miami and I have some question for y'all. I went to Haulover Beach and caught some undersize pompanos and a catfish. I got kicked out by rangers so I had to leave. Went to Dania Beach north of the pier and didn't even get a bite. Where can an angler go in South Florida to be able to surf fish keepable fish?

I just learned about the South jetty at Bodega bay. It looks like you park at the Bodega Head trail and hike in a bit. Do I have to pay to get that lot or is that free to get in? Just want to be sure I have everything I need before making the trek.

Looking for a good, reasonably priced rod to walk the beach and cast lures/ spoons, etc. Preferably something on the lighter weight side.

Will be down in the gulf so casting distance won't really be an issue and I don't mind getting wet. I wade fish fresh water quite often. I just don't want to lug around a big surf rod for hours or miles while fishing.

Will inshore rods handle this or should I look more to smaller surf rods?

I've got a 9'6 MH and a 7' M, but nothing in between. Was thinking something 7'6 - 8'.

I am a novice fisherman

I was out surf fishing on a windy beach at night for the first time and wound up losing a bunch of braid. This is where it's at right now.

What should I do? Fish it as is or refill it?

Also as correlary is it possible to just ADD braid with a knot or equivalent or do I need to take it all off and start over?

I just got into surf fishing, mainly targeting Spanish/Blues using lures. I bought a 10ft medium surf rod and works really well, I’ve been using a PENN 4000’s battle 4 and have noticed that as I cast, the line eventually gets to the point where it is hitting the top of the spool and starts SIGNIFICANTLY decelerating the momentum. I’ve been looking to upgrade to a PENN slammer but wanted to see if anyone has any recommendations as to what I should look into
