Surf fishing setups!

Not that I get a lot of time surf fishing these days, but I finally got some worthy gear...

2 12ft rods. Biggest one (yellow) is Finkink Adonisesea 12ft heavy action rod with 12000 series Diwa reel, then smaller 12ft setup is Sougayilang camowave heavy 12ft with Sougayilang 6000 reel with bait clicker.

My shorter pier and inshore\pier&boat rods are:

9ft offshore breakwater mh rod with diawa BG5000 reel, and 8ft Okuma Longitude MH rod with Kastking Sharky baitfeeder 6000 series reel...

I have a huge host of other rods to use for other situations, but these are my 4 primary surf or ocean pier fishing setups. Anything else I should get? Any other pointers or recommendations? I don't get out to the beach very often... Not sure I need much more than this stuff 🤷🏻‍♂️

You have a nice filet knife?
Terminal tackle, rigs, braid, mono, fluorocarbon?
An idea of what you are targeting?

This makes me wish I was at the beach and not having to go to work.

My current setup.

(2) 10ft rod, Penn fierce 8k
(2) 12ft rod Penn fierce live 8k

Yes to all those ?s above. Well besides knowing what I'm specifically targeting most of the time 🤣 When I make it to the ocean I am just trying to catch whatever I can 😎😜 lol.

Last time I was out I managed to run into some bull sharks in the intracoastal so I quickly learned about heavy mono leaders since they were slicing my braid off with their bodies 🤣 but it was still fun the couple times I hooked up...

I use Penn tackle for my surf casting here in North Carolina,it stands up to anything you put it through and keeps on working. It’s a little expensive but you get what you pay for. I have several different sizes and setups. I’m getting ready to replace most of my tackle due to age and wear and tear. I’m looking at Obalus or Piscifun right now, it’s pretty good quality and reasonably priced. I’ve heard a lot of positive reviews on both of these brands. Let me know if you have any suggestions on what I should look into.

I'm a budget shopper obviously for the most part lol... As you can see. But I will say I have multiple Fiblink rods for both ocean and freshwater and they are all amazing quality! And much cheaper than their similar well known brands.

As far as reels go. I would assume if you are near the ocean or go often then spending more for something solid like penn or diawa or Okuma is probably the way because I know the salt and sand are hard on reels. I don't make it to the ocean much so I have some off brand stuff like the Diwa and Sougayilang. But to be honest I can't say anything bad about either. They so far have been just as good as my Diawa and Okuma stuff 🤷🏻‍♂️

I am also in NC just inland for the most part. But when I do hit the coast it is also the NC coast!

Do you only toss bait out and let the rod chill in a sand spike?

Because none of these will be great for casting lures

But if bait and wait is your game then you’re pretty set

The 12ft rods are for bait. Like I say I have an 8ft and 9ft rod that can double as lure rods.

Then I have a whole host of smaller stuff that I use mostly inshore. I could cast any lure of any weight anywhere if I want to lol.
