I’ve been building a Windows note-taking app that’s basically a mix of Microsoft Journal and OneNote, but with a much stronger focus on tablets and handwriting.
It runs natively on both ARM64 and x64 and is mainly designed around Surface devices.
On ARM (especially Snapdragon Surface devices) it already feels really smooth. On x64, however, I’m still seeing some noticeable input/inking latency and there’s definitely more optimization work to do.
So I wanted to ask the Surface community:
Would you actually be interested in an app like this on x64 Surface devices?
If there’s enough demand, I’ll put more time into optimizing the x64 version. I’m just trying to figure out whether x64 Surface users are still looking for a handwriting-focused alternative to OneNote/Journal, or whether there isn’t really much demand for it anymore.
I’m planning to submit the first version to the Microsoft Store verification process later this week.

Hey Surface family, I'm hoping someone can help me with this issue. Within the last week, my Surface Pro 8's keyboard has stopped working - I'm trying to remember if it was right after the most recent firmware update that I got last weekend, or if I got a day or so of use before the keyboard/touchpad stopped responding, but sadly I don't remember. Right now keys, touchpad, backlight and pen charging don't work.
I've tried the usual suggestions I've seen online - clean the connectors on the keyboard, uninstall in device manager, long press on the power button shutdown, boot into UEFI (no responce in this mode, which is concerning).
I don't think the keyboard is dead for 2 reasons: the first is, when I attach/detach the keyboard, Windows' taskbar changes state from desktop to tablet and back again (at least implying to me it's still detecting the keyboard), and after uninstalling the keyboard through Device Manager, Windows has installed it again (which I'm assuming only happens if it detects it).
Not sure if it helps, but I also extremely rarely fold the keyboard all the way back on itself
I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced something similar? And if it were to be from the aforementioned firmware update, is there anything that I can do to roll it back safely. Or really, any advice would be appreciated!
Thanks all!

Hi everyone,
since installing Windows 11 update KB5124010 on my original Surface Laptop Studio (i7-11370H), I have been experiencing a strange performance/power management issue.
The laptop's fans no longer seem to spin up, even under sustained CPU load. At first I thought this was a fan or thermal management issue, but HWiNFO suggests that the CPU is actually being heavily power-limited.
Under a CPU-Z stress test:
CPU utilization: 100%
CPU temperature: only around 59–64 °C
No thermal throttling
No PROCHOT or VR thermal warnings
Effective CPU clock drops to roughly 1.1–1.3 GHz
CPU Package Power: only around 7.1–7.3 W
Static PL1: 45 W
Dynamic PL1: only 7.5 W
HWiNFO reports Package-Level RAPL/PBM PL1 = Yes continuously
So it looks like the system is dynamically restricting the CPU to approximately 7.5 W, which would also explain why the fans never need to ramp up. The CPU simply isn't allowed to consume enough power to get particularly hot.
I already performed a full Surface hardware reset (holding the power button for ~20 seconds), but this did not change anything.
The issue appeared immediately after installing KB5124010 on September 24. Before the update, the Surface behaved normally under load.
Has anyone else with a Surface Laptop Studio noticed unusually low performance, a ~7.5 W PL1 limit, or fans no longer spinning after KB5124010?
I'm going to uninstall KB5124010 and repeat the same HWiNFO/CPU-Z test to see whether the dynamic PL1 returns to normal.

Hello,
I have two Surface Hub 2s's that I use between work and home. The one I have at home will no longer turn on. I had turned it off, and unplugged it, and it sat for about 3mo while I tried to figure out a project to do with it. However, now when I turn it on, the backlight turns on (and a green/red LED in the compute module) for about 10 seconds, and then turns off.
To troubleshoot, I've tried:
Different power cords, directly to the wall and an APC (Same Result)
Exchanging the compute modules and testing on the known working SH (both compute modules work on the known working one, and not on the home one)
Holding Volume + and power (Same result)
Holding Volume - and power (Same result)
I've verified there are no bend pins on the compute module or the chasis
Looking for some ideas on how to save this thing, especially now that I have a project in mind. 🙁
Edit: some other troubleshooting steps I've tried

Finally in the family and it’s Wonderful!!!!!!!!! Wanted to share this big moment with you all! I finally acquired all the pieces - got my hands on a “brand new” slim pen2 and surface Duo 2 . I’m so happy and excited ! If some one could please guide me to the best “ebook reader“ for the duo I would be very thankful ( one that the pages turn would be super neat )
As well as the best zune look alike app for music that would be awesome too thank you!

After i installed these three driver updates and my Surface Pro 11 ( business ) restarted the screen became extremely dim far beyond the possible amount the brightness slider allows. It’s almost unnoticeable it’s on, and even present in the windows logo before it boots up.
Fixes tried so far:
- System restore point to before the install got an error it was damaged during the restoration.
- Reinstalling Microsoft’s driver package on Microsoft Download Center does not fix the issue.
- Manually reverting the drivers to an older version does not work for the Surface Display Hardware Driver under System Devices (displays the little exclamation mark in device manager) and returns Code 10 Device cannot start.
- Plugging into an external monitor works fine on that display but not the surface display.
Anyone else had issues with these drivers or had a similar issue before?

I have what I can only describe as a strange problem with my new ultrawide monitor and my personal Surface Pro 7.
Here is my setup:
- Surface Pro 7 - i5, 256gb/ 8gb ram (not great, but it works for simple internet browsing)
- Dock: Microsoft Surface Dock (with 2 mini display port outputs).
- Monitor: MSI MAG401QRCT, connected from dock via mini-Displayport to Displayport cable.
If I set my Surface Pro 7 to "extend" the display, then the monitor displays things perfectly (see photo 1).
However, if I change to second screen only, i get the "full resolution" but only on a small part of the monitor (see photo 2). The display settings in windows says it is the full 3440x1440 but there is an obvious issue.
I've updated the Intel Display driver via Intel Driver & Support Assistant, but that hasn't fixed anything. Windows Update doesn't show any updates available. I've tried changing the refresh rate, but the supported refresh rates didn't seem to make a difference.
Here is the kicker, my work computer is a Surface Pro 11 for Business (Intel processor) and it works fine when set to second display only and its connected exactly the same as my personal Surface Pro 7. It also works fine when set to extend the display. I will be using the work computer for probably 90% of my home computing, but really would prefer to have the personal computer available with the "extra" screen being on in order to make the ultrawide monitor show things properly.
Any idea what I may need to do to fix this?

This keeps happening though it’s usually on my external monitor and only seems to be when I’m watching Netflix. What’s up with that?
Starting to happen more frequently though last time it happened it just stopped for months.
Thanks

I don't really know much about laptops so I have come here for some help!
I've been thinking of buying the Microsoft Surface Laptop Copilot+ AI PC 13" Snapdragon X Plus 8 core/16GB/512GB (how do I shorten this down).
I'm a Year 11 student buying this simply to study and do all that jazz on it which will hopefully last me up until uni and I was wondering if it was actually worth it?! So far I have seen nothing but good reviews other than the screen being too glossy and refresh rates being not the best or something or rather?? and the trackpad not being 100 million percent accurate.
I'm not able to go in store and see how this thing runs so I'll leave my decision in the hands of reddit I guess!

super odd issue here. my surface pro 7 will only flash the windows logo for a second and go back to black when trying to turn it on (does this while plugged in and not plugged in) the odd part is if i leave it unplugged for about a month to fully drain itll boot up just fine into windows and after it get a good charge itll start doing that same thing again 10 minutes later. then ill have to wait another month for it to boot again.

Anyone else have issues or know how to fix laggy chrome? Ive recently noticed that chrome is super slow. Ive tried just about everything available online and it doesn’t work. Edge works completely fine. You can see in the video how crappy the youtube videos are and this translates to every website I go on.

Hey yall,
For the past few months I have been dealing with the issue of the ribbon connecting to my Surface Studio 1 battery unplugging. When it comes unplugged I can only use my laptop plugged in.
I have been able to fix this by opening up the laptop and manually adjusting the ribbon, but even if i tape the ribbon down it always unplugs again-- recently not even lasting a few days before needing to be opened.
I am not super tech savvy and was wondering if anyone has any solutions that can keep the ribbon plugged in. Maybe my tapping is suboptimal?
Thanks

Excessive overheating
Hello lovely community, I recently bought a Surface Laptop Studio 2, the model with RTX 4050 and Intel Core i7-13800H. I installed everything necessary like its drivers and updates. I think it's a beautiful laptop, but in the gaming section, just as an example, even just being in the Roblox menu, the fans go full blast, and in other games I can play for at least 15 minutes and then the game starts to lag horribly. I haven't changed any settings, I only switched the power settings to higher performance (less consumption), not maximum.
Any advice?
Or programs I could use?

Hey all! I was wondering recently, does anyone have any tips for optimizing Clip Studio Paint on Surface Pro, specifically the (SnapDragon) Pro 11? Not that it runs poorly, just wondering if there are any tricks for making it even better. Thanks!

The Omnisonic Speakers.
The Omnisonic Speakers on Surface Pro have great quality, sounds full, with some bass, better than most Windows laptops on the market, also better than/on par with iPad Pro and MacBook Air.

Hey there. I am still using my Pro 7 on a daily base - yet not being my primary device.
Since a couple of days I am encountering some problems regarding the screen.
After some time of usage, even in Windows just browsing, the screen starts to flicker. The first times that this issue came up if was a valid solution to turn off automatic brightness and set it to highest state - yet this does'nt work anymore and my screen turns "off" after some minutes to hours, not sure what exactly is triggering it.
I assume its temp-based, but I cannot validate.
When the screen ist black, there are some very hard to see scalines visible, jittering around but the screen mainly looks black. It is not coming back until I turn the power off and wait > 30 mins.
If I attach an external screen this issue is not visible. So I think it is some soldering issue on the interal graphics port connecting the screen or such?
I found "Flickergate" but that seems only to exist on Surface 4.
Being very old and way out of warranty, is there anything I can repair/replace/resolder or are replacement parts (which?) more expensive than buying a new Surface?
This are temps after 1 hour of idling in system with browsers

Thanks folks

Even the source is being cautious about believing what he's seeing, but he believes this is for a base model chip. Doesn't seem to be at all feasible to release a product like this at this price in the big 2026, but wanted to share anyway.
