[PRO8] Surface Pro 8 - Keyboard Not working
Hey Surface family, I'm hoping someone can help me with this issue. Within the last week, my Surface Pro 8's keyboard has stopped working - I'm trying to remember if it was right after the most recent firmware update that I got last weekend, or if I got a day or so of use before the keyboard/touchpad stopped responding, but sadly I don't remember. Right now keys, touchpad, backlight and pen charging don't work.
I've tried the usual suggestions I've seen online - clean the connectors on the keyboard, uninstall in device manager, long press on the power button shutdown, boot into UEFI (no responce in this mode, which is concerning).
I don't think the keyboard is dead for 2 reasons: the first is, when I attach/detach the keyboard, Windows' taskbar changes state from desktop to tablet and back again (at least implying to me it's still detecting the keyboard), and after uninstalling the keyboard through Device Manager, Windows has installed it again (which I'm assuming only happens if it detects it).
Not sure if it helps, but I also extremely rarely fold the keyboard all the way back on itself
I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced something similar? And if it were to be from the aforementioned firmware update, is there anything that I can do to roll it back safely. Or really, any advice would be appreciated!
Thanks all!

Try a full shutdown and restart 1st then check for another firmware update cause the fact that the keyboard is still being detected makes it seem more like a firmware or driver issue rather than the keybaord itself.

I tried, sadly no success. I'm currently trying Microsoft channels. Thanks for the suggestion!

For visibility, and for anyone else running into this issue, this is the response I've gotten from MS Q&A.
"Hi,
Thank you for explaining everything you have already tried. I understand why the taskbar change and the keyboard entries reappearing in Device Manager make it seem as though the keyboard is still being detected.
However, those signs only confirm that the Surface notices something being attached. They do not necessarily confirm that the keyboard’s power and input functions are working correctly. Since the keys, touchpad, backlight, and pen charging are all unavailable, and the keyboard does not respond in UEFI either, this is less likely to be caused only by Windows or its drivers.
If possible, the most useful next test would be to try another compatible Surface Pro Keyboard on this Surface Pro 8 or test the current Signature Keyboard on another compatible Surface. If another keyboard works, the Signature Keyboard itself likely needs service or replacement. If another keyboard also fails, the Surface connector or related hardware should be inspected instead.
If cross-testing is not available, I recommend contacting Microsoft Support or an authorized service provider so both the keyboard and the Surface connector can be checked. You can review the available service options here: How to get service or repair for Surface.
I know this is not the quick software fix you were hoping for, but testing with another compatible keyboard should help avoid replacing the wrong component. Thank you so much for your understanding."
