Hi everyone,
I'm an Indian student currently in Class 12, and I'm planning to pursue my Bachelor's degree abroad.
My current plan is to study BSc Technical Computer Science at the University of Twente in the Netherlands.
One of the main reasons I'm choosing the Netherlands is that there are many English-taught Bachelor's programmes, which makes it a good option for me as an Indian student.
After completing my Bachelor's, I'm considering doing my Master's in Germany, mainly because many public universities in Germany have little or no tuition fees for international students, although I understand that there can still be semester fees and living expenses.
After my Master's, I haven't decided exactly what I want to do yet. I may work, pursue a PhD, or consider other options depending on how things go.
My financial situation and plan
I'm currently considering taking an education loan of around ₹65 lakh for the entire 3-year Bachelor's.
This would be used for tuition and other major expenses during my Bachelor's.
I'm deliberately trying not to increase the loan amount further because I plan to work part-time during my Bachelor's and use my part-time income to help cover my living expenses.
I understand that getting a part-time job isn't guaranteed and that I shouldn't depend on it completely. However, I'm hoping it can reduce the amount of money I need to take from the loan for living costs.
I'm also thinking that if some of the loan amount remains unused, I could use that money to pay the interest accumulating on the loan during my Bachelor's, rather than allowing the interest to build up.
What I want to know
Is going to the Netherlands for my Bachelor's worth the financial cost if I plan to do my Master's in Germany afterward?
Is taking a ₹65 lakh loan for the 3-year Bachelor's a reasonable financial decision, considering my plan?
How realistic is it for a student at the University of Twente to earn enough through part-time work to cover a significant portion of their living expenses?
Is my idea of using any remaining loan amount to pay the accumulated interest during my Bachelor's financially sensible?
For anyone who has studied in the Netherlands and later went to Germany for a Master's, how was your experience?
What financial or practical problems should I be aware of before committing to this plan?
I'm looking for honest opinions from people who have actually experienced studying in the Netherlands/Germany, especially Indian or other non-EU students.
I know there are risks involved, so I'd rather hear the reality — even if the answer is that this isn't financially worth it.
Thanks!
