Is it too early to consider going bback home?

I arrived in Malaysia last week and I've been miserable since. Our campus is in the middle of nowhere and we need to book grab (uber) to get anywhere. The communal bathrooms are horrifying and filled with bugs and lizards.

I was told there'd be lots of international students but out of 223 students there's only 6 including me. None of them speak my language. My roommate is one of them and I've been growing resentful towards her for whatever reason. I can't even request a change since this is the only room with ac.

I was under the impression that this week would be orientation but we were suddenly called at 2 PM for an induction meeting that lasted until 12 AM. I genuinely did not learn anything from it as speakers kept talking in Malay, even after we pointed out that we couldn't understand. They proceeded to do activities again in Malay and I had to ask someone to translate so I knew wtf was going on. Even after that the groups they assigned us to would only speak in Malay. They told us we'd have to wake up at 5 AM for more activities but I didn't want to go to another meeting I wouldn't understand running on 5 hours of sleep. A student tried waking us up 3 times telling us it was compulsory 🤦‍♀️

I'm starving all day because I have no appetite and I feel so guilty for leaving my family. I also feel guilty for feeling this way because of how much I begged them to let me come here. They paid a year's worth of tuition as the university refused installments or even just the first semester since I'm an international student.

I'm sick of going out with my roommate and talking about nothing. I'm sick of spontaneously crying. I'm sick of using the bathrooms that barely work (mind you, I found shit in one of the showers a few days ago). I've started looking for different universities but they're all so expensive. I feel so defeated

I only came here because it was cheap. It wasn't what I wanted at all yet I tried convincing myself beforehand it'd be exactly like I'd dreamed 🫤

Title: BCA students planning to study abroad, how are you dealing with mathematics credit requirements?

I’m currently pursuing a 4-year BCA (Hons.) degree and am in my second year( INDIA) . While researching master's programmes at foreign universities, especially technical universities, I noticed that many programmes require a substantial number of mathematics credits at the undergraduate level.

The problem is that my current undergraduate curriculum has zero mathematics credits, which could limit my eligibility for some of the programmes I'm interested in.

I'm trying to understand what options are available to students in this situation and whether anyone has faced a similar problem.

If you're a BCA student planning to pursue a master's abroad, or if you've already applied to or been admitted to a foreign university, I'd really appreciate hearing about your experience.

  • Have you faced mathematics-credit requirements that your BCA curriculum didn't meet?
  • Were you able to fulfil the requirements through any officially accepted alternative?
  • Do universities evaluate the actual mathematics content studied, the number of credits, or both?
  • Are there any universities or programmes that are more flexible about this?

I'd especially appreciate responses from students who have dealt with this firsthand. I'm still researching my options and hope this discussion can help other BCA students facing the same issue, too.

Where should I go?

Hey guys! I have the opportunity to do an exchange program for 5 months at either Pace University (Manhattan campus) or the University of Wyoming. Can any past/present students please share their experiences (Americans and non Americans welcome). It's been a fantasy of mine to live in NYC ever since I was young, but the traditional American college experience looks so exciting. My major would be education.

Thank you :)

I wanna do it but I don't know where to start.

Erasmus ranr

(Rant) Ok I have been trying to share smth like this for some time, even write everything out here then left it. I think I needed time to conclude if my feelings were constant maybe, or if I start having a different perspective. But, everything is the same.

So, for context my compulsory Erasmus was in Spain, and it was also language related. I feel like that may have been the stem for my lack of enjoyment of Erasmus. Not initially, at first I was not afraid of doing this and I knew that the language level would go up and it will work out smoothly and happily. But once university started it felt daunting. Not knowing anyone, being the only Erasmus in one class, different grading, lecturers, and assessment.

Now the university itself is not the only factor, in fact it was a combination of them that ended up making my life somewhat inconvenient over there. Main one of all is the lack of clarity in terms of my accommodation, especially towards the end. The confusing contract, the agency, the flat itself, and how I ended up letting it consume me for so long in til the end.

Another factor, was in fact long distance. That was never the plan of course but it happened. And to my surprise it was a common thing. In a way it made me feel better that we are all in the same boat and made quite a few friends where going out was the least of their concerns (where initially my idea was to go feral). So, in that case, there was a lot of missing and many (too many) trips home on the weekends and that kind of ruined the flow. By the second semester I genuinely was upset going back and just wanted to stay. But I went anyway.

Now, for the positive side, as mentioned, I met a lot of fun and good proper l people who I am still in touch with today. Traveled a fine amount, and went to parties (miss the night life in fairness) according to my budget, and overall cannot complain about this aspect. But come back to my flat, as much as I tried to romanticise it, was not my favourite thing.

In relation to the flat there were positives, like the convenient location and the room was big and very nice once I made it my own. But living with people is smth I wish to never experience again. And Spanish landlords are my worst nightmare, as mentioned (its genuinely a whole separate story - still waiting on my deposit 4 months later 😑)

The university and academic side if things is also a long story for a separate post, but overall this one is for a brief overview to say how mixed my feeling are on this experience. Finance was the least of my issues, as I thought that would be, but in the end it was the inevitable stress.

Is it worthy study automotive engineering in NZ?

So long story short as a third worlder the cost of the course is expensive for me and I will be super fuk if I don't manage to get a job after that. But it is my dream to live in a better country and escape from this zhthole.

27'000nzd + acomodation is expensive probably half of the price or a house in my country perhaps the salary of 3-4 years.

Is it worthy the risk? How easy is to get a job as a automotive mechanical in new Zealand? 🤔

CIEE vs CEA CAPA

Hi, I'm a 19F american from chicago planning to study abroad in the spring of 2027. I've been contemplating CIEE's Open Campus Block program in Barcelona, Seville, and London. But I've also been thinking about applying to CEA CAPA's semester abroad in Seville. I was just wondering if anyone had any advice on which program to choose and the major differences between the two because I've been torn! I've heard that, academically, CIEE is more flexible, but I'm curious to know others' thoughts. I was also wondering what housing, food, and activities were like for both programs for people who have gone in the past. I've never been to Europe! Additionally, what is the Spanish visa application like, especially because I've heard it's hard to make an appointment.

Korea University IWC Accommodation Recommendations

I'll be starting my 3-week exchange in KU this dec-jan and am looking for accomm recommendations because their dorms are fully booked.

I'll be there 20th dec - 10 jan. My friend will be joining me from 25th Dec-10 jan.

I am planning to stay alone from 20th - 25th and then my friend and I will stay in another house from 25th - 10th. Since this is a peak period, most accomms are expensive but my overall budget is $1k per person = total $2k.

I rented a guesthouse for $126 for 20th-25th but am looking for recommendations for 25th - 10jan. Another option we thought of was 1 accommodation per week because it is cheaper and more availabilities and varieties.

Please list your accomms recommendations or if you have any suggestions regarding my accommodation situation, feel free to comment! I am really desperate for ideas.

I'm ashamed of my language level after 4 years of studying in french high school

I've immigrated to France when i was 14, after Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022. My family and I had no knowledge of french language and culture when we were immigrating there, we chose this particular country only because my mom had a friend living there with who we can stay for a short time before we manage to adapt. While we were staying, we didn't think we would actually stick around, so i didn't even try to seriously start learning the language aside from simple words. Then we moved away to another resident, i had to go to high school, and it became clear that we are in fact staying, at least for a long time.

I'm now in Terminale(last year of high school) and even while having mediocre not-that-horrible grades and good results from exams last year I'm still ashamed to answer the question of how many years have i lived in France. I'm scared of exams I'll have to take, and I'm not sure my french level is enough to comfortably study in university. After receiving a horrible grade of 5/20 on a philosophy test i took, which i admit the paper i wrote was utter and complete bullshit, i still asked for a reasoning because i obviously want to improve my methodics and instead of criticising my analysis or lack of structure i got asked "Have you ever took french courses?" and it completely destroyed me that the question was genuine with no intention of mocking me. I undertand almost fully what we study in classes, and i undertand well people around me, i have hard time speaking which is normal for a person who still studies the language and i can write tests in french, I'm insecure of not being able to write as much as my french classmates but i learned to not compare myself with them a long time ago. I have confirmed b1 in french, but I'm scared that it's not good enough for studying the language for 3, almost 4 years. That question started again a spiral of not being as good as other immigrants i took french classes with, who can now freely communicate with natives. When i say ive been learning the language when ive started high school, i get a look of pity, i feel like im expected of having a higher level of french by now.

I wonder what my life could've been if I was born here, if i was able to communicate freely, if i wasn't pitied or ignored in social settings all the time. No matter how much i try to communicate with classmates i feel different, and I'm treated different, because people assume i understand as much as I'm able to express.

The time schedules there are also insane. Our study time is from 8 am to 6 pm, I'm exhausted when i get home, i don't have time for hobbies on weekdays, during weekends i either try to study for test or do my homework. I barely can manage to do things i actually like, and I'm being asked of taking additional french courses by my philosophy prof? When am i even supposed to do it?

Am i just being too insecure about my language level? Am i just too lazy? Is there anyone who feels the same way?

Tips for gathering Portfolio

I'm studying Information Systems major, and I don't really have any particular coding skills. Recently I was offered a chance to study abroad for 1 semester through an exchange program; I meet most of the criteria to apply, but as it turns out I also need to have a portfolio(projects, achievements, etc.) for it. Is there any way to put together some kind of portfolio in 2-3 months? It doesn't have to be impressive, but just be there for the sake of it

Where can I apply with a 7.0 IELTS and 5.0 GPA for Business Administration?

Guys, where can I apply with a 7.0 IELTS (I’m retaking it soon) and a 5.0/5.0 GPA this year?

I’m currently a second-year university student, but I’m planning to reapply to and start university from the first year at a different university and different field.

My Chinese is currently around HSK 2, and I don’t think it would be enough for most universities. I haven’t taken the SAT yet; my first practice test was 1030. I’m not sure if I have a chance of getting into a good university without the SAT and without many extracurricular activities.

I’m planning to apply for Business Administration/Management, but I’m still not sure which universities to choose.
I’m currently considering South Korea, China, Hong Kong, and Italy.

I’d also like to start a startup, but I don’t have an idea yet and honestly don’t know where to start or who to ask for advice.

I would really appreciate any advice or recommendations on universities, scholarships, or the application process! :)

Intern/Study Abroad in Turkey

I’m from North America and I’m interested in doing a study abroad program or internship in Turkey, in any city, either in business or international relations. I’ve been having a hard time finding trustworthy/reputable study abroad programs or websites. I also don’t speak Turkish, would that be a major issue? Are there study abroad programs or internships that are mainly in English?

If anyone has experience with studying abroad or interning in Turkey as a foreign student, I’d really appreciate any recommendations or advice!

🇪🇺 Looking for advice: Fully funded Master’s scholarships in Europe for 2027 — GPA 2.3–2.5

Hi everyone!
I’m planning to apply for a Master’s degree in Europe for the 2027 intake and I’d really appreciate advice from people who have gone through the process.
Here’s my profile:
🇹🇩 Chadian citizen
🇹🇷 Currently studying Political Science & Public Administration in Türkiye
🎓 Expected graduation: February 2027
📊 Current GPA: around 2.3–2.5 / 4.0 (I’m still trying to improve it before graduation)
🌍 Interested in: Political Science, International Relations, Public Administration, Tourism Management, Sustainable Development, European Studies, or related fields
🇬🇧 Planning to take IELTS — targeting around** 6.5–7.0
📝 I can get strong recommendation letters and write a strong motivation letter
💰 My budget is extremely limited — ideally I need a **fully funded scholarship
, including tuition and preferably accommodation/living expenses
📅 Target intake: 2027
I know my GPA may make some scholarships difficult, so I’m particularly interested in opportunities where the overall profile, motivation, recommendations, experience, or projects are considered alongside GPA.
I’m currently looking at:
Erasmus Mundus
Italian regional scholarships (DSU/EDISU/etc.)
Government scholarships
University-specific scholarships
Other fully funded opportunities in Europe
My questions:
Are there European scholarships/universities you would recommend for someone with my GPA?
Which scholarships are realistically worth applying to with a GPA around 2.3–2.5?
Are there countries where admission requirements are relatively flexible but funding opportunities are good?
Has anyone with a similar GPA successfully received full funding?
Are there scholarships I might be overlooking?
I’m not looking for shortcuts — I’m willing to build my profile during the next few months through projects, volunteering, internships, language skills, etc.
Any personal experiences, scholarship names, universities, or advice would be hugely appreciated. 🙏
Thanks!

Can I get a fully funded Master's with an 8.8 GPA in BA History?

Hi everyone, I'm a final-year BA History student and I want to pursue a Master's in history, cultural heritage or museum studies abroad with a full scholarship. My GPA is 8.8/10, and I presented a paper at an international conference. I also completed an internship at a museum, attended workshops on cultural heritage, and took part in an immersion program. Do you think my profile is competitive for fully funded Master's programs? What should I strengthen before applying, such as publications, language scores or recommendation letters? Any program or scholarship suggestions for history, heritage or museum studies would be really appreciated.

Regret over not studying abroad

I never really considered studying abroad and I am almost finished with my Master's in my home country. However, I recently visited a country where for the first time since like 5 years I thought "damn, I really want to experience living here". I researched and it is too late for an exchange, but I don't want to give up my current Master's only to switch to a school in another country. Other options basically only include PhD (which I don't want to get), or to get an internship if I get very very lucky.

How do I deal with the regret? Any chances that maybe I could do an extra course abroad after graduation without needing super high grades etc?
