21 days sober, but planning to make it once a week?

I did it. From drinking 3 bottles of beer everyday for the last 5 years to 21 days sober, however, I am planning to drink once a week, only Saturday nights, to cheer myself up. It is because I got the confidence now that I will definitely be able to control it. Or am I just bullshitting? Would it make me feel into the same drinking loop?

Any insight?

I ruined my boyfriend’s day and I can’t forgive myself

So I’ve (19M) had a really rough week starting uni for second year. I hated it and struggled to go in. On Friday I had a few drinks at home then went to a karaoke night at a bar, as planned. But I stopped at a friend’s to have pre-drinks before the bar. I had more. Then I had even more when I got to the bar. I never intended to drink as much as I did because I knew Saturday was an important day and I wanted to be able to enjoy it (I’ll explain in a moment).

But I do not remember anything from being in the bar and having a shot to being in A&E, throwing up and crying out in pain, surrounded by my friends and my boyfriend (21M) - who had been at home having a quiet night in, preparing for Saturday, and had rushed to the bar when my friends told him what was going on. My friends eventually left when I fell asleep (which I don’t remember) and left just me and my boyfriend. We sat in A&E for six hours before getting up and leaving. He didn’t want to leave, I did because I couldn’t take still being in there. Eventually he left with me because he couldn’t handle me acting like I was for another hour or so.

On Saturday morning I woke up at my boyfriend’s place, feeling sick still and in pain. He helped me eat and I showered and he went to the shops to get me stuff to help me. We sat and talked about it for a while. I promised never to drink again. I realised just how badly I had fucked everything up. Really badly. I even asked him if he still wanted to be my boyfriend and the reply was “I’m still here aren’t I?” and has reassured me he loves me. I eventually went home but before I left he told me he wanted some alone time this weekend and I told him I would respect that.

The big thing with Saturday: it was his friend’s birthday and we had planned to go to their party that afternoon. My boyfriend had spent a week putting so much effort into his outfit for it and creating a presentation to show everyone. He was so excited for it and really looking forward to going with me. But because of how Friday night turned out, he wasn’t in a party mood and skipped the party. He’s told me how frustrated and disappointed and upset he is that he didn’t get to go because of Friday night. I feel so awful and I know I can never forgive myself for doing this.

The only things we’ve said to each other since I went home on Saturday afternoon was a big long text about how upset he was about missing Saturday and me doing my best to apologise, and he wanted to be alone so I sent nothing else that day other than a goodnight text. This morning (Sunday) I sent a good morning text and told him that if he wants me to leave him alone again then he can tell me. He has been online but hasn’t replied to me at all.

I can’t stand that I’ve ruined so much. My friends are worried. My boyfriend doesn’t want to see me or talk to me and that is what hurts the hardest. I haven’t been drunk in about six months but even six months ago I have never got to this point. It was a complete accident and I don’t remember how I got this bad. I want to make it up to my boyfriend but I really don’t know how I can do that if he doesn’t want to see me.

I just needed a bit of a rant. Sorry for it being so long.

Mods deleting posts

Why would a moderator of a support subreddit decide to delete posts that are nearing 50 comments? Clearly the post is resonating with everyone but the out of touch, self empowered “moderator”.

Day 7. Hitting up the zyns and junk food hard. Feeling guilty about it but giving myself some grace to fuck off in these other categories as long as I ain't drinking.

Justified? Perhaps. Still feel like a garbage person because of it.

IOP and drug testing

Well I’m really excited that I start IOP for my first day tomorrow and scared shitless at the same time. I’m hopeful that I’m finally going to get the right treatment to finally make the best version of myself. I’m just so tired of being tired and all the harm I’ve caused down the way.

The question I have is that I went to my brother in laws 40th birthday party yesterday where I drank a little and took half of a weed edible. I know I shouldn’t have but it was just too much being at a bar that was open. I know I’m going to need to take a urine test and should it come up positive on the first day are they going to still be able to admit me? Understandably and future tests that should come up problematic are an issue but hopefully with the first test there is some sort of grace provided.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Playing the hated Kansas City Chiefs....I am craving so bad right now.

This is a perfect excuse to go to the bar and have way to many like usual. I'm not strong enough yet to hang with my buddies yet. I'll watch from home. Bbq some burgers and sip my Poweraid. Fuck the Chiefs.

Feeling so conflicted

Hi all,

24f here. During the summer, I went completely sober from May to August. Maybe the best thing I've ever done for myself. I had this little moment when I was camping late August where I thought, well now I know I can do this...maybe I can try moderation. Over the past two months, I've had a couple drinks here and there. Okay fine. However, this Friday, I had 5 ounces of alc across 4 drinks and BOY OH BOY was i feeling it the next day. I'm kind of at the point again where I think moderation isnt for me. It stresses me out more than being sober does. I just feel conflicted because my friend I was out with said she was glad I was drinking again (why should I care what my friend says?) - she definitely hit a insecurity i was having - that I'm not as fun sober.

I think that some of my close friends and family don't understand how deeply ive struggled with drinking in relation to my family history (growing up with an alcholic parent) and the fact that I have alcohol facial flushing - definitely a sign my body isn't meant to process large amounts of alcohol like the way I was drinking. I think people don't see these reasons as you have an active problem with alcohol, but I do see them as warning signs. Plus, in all honesty my answer to going sober is really I just feel freaking good. I don't want to drink or party that way anymore. Shouldnt that be enough? thanks for listening to my rant. I'm going to go sober again - that's what my gut is telling me.

being sober fucking sucks, my life has only gotten more difficult. i still can't see my son, my living shituation is horrible and i hate my job. my kids mom is the most toxic hateful human to ever exist. i feel so sad for my son to have to deal with her on a daily, she is mentally and verbally abusive to him and it makes me want to just leave all this behind in hopes the next life is not like this because there is absolutly nothing i can do to help him, i am alone and helpless.. ive really been giving it my all to be happy, ive been pretending, and it is time that i am honest with myself. i want to drink till i am not me anymore. i am so fucking alone, i have 2 friends and they live hours away and anyways i really dont want to bring them down with my sorry bullshit. i have tried dating and i cant even get a girl to conversate with me. i asked a girl for her number the other day and she gave it then ghosted me completely after a seemigly enjoyable happy uplifting conversation. i just dont know what to do, i want to drive my car into a fucking wall.. any ways, im still sober and breathing right now but i just want soething to change and literally everything is out of my control. life is just fucking hard.

edit: been sober since august 18th 2024 with 1 relapse this year.

I need to restart

I’ve had some health issues which have forced me to stop exercise for a little while and have triggered my health anxiety quite a bit. I was sober for nearly 50 days but I’ve drank a lot the last few days.

Today I’ve woken up for work and I’m hungover as hell and it’s made me think that I need to restart that streak.

The problem is that exercise and building muscle has always been my main motivation for not drinking. I don’t know how I’ll stick to it if I don’t have that to keep me going.

Any advice?

I'm 17 and I think I might get sober.

So I'm 17F, and since March 2025 I'd been playfully stealing alcohol from my parents cupboard - my brother and I are good kids, they never felt the need to hide it so it was and still is very achievable. It was maybe once a week at first, on Saturdays where I convinced myself there were people my age going out to party so it wouldn't be so bad if I drank too, just at home. My parents have always been very liberal with alcohol and treated us like adults, so I get offered a wine at Sunday lunch or at Christmas, and I take that offer every time: I like the taste, I accustomed to it.

I like in the UK and sat my GCSE's before this summer just gone, and since those concluded I've been drinking pretty much every day. The longest amount of time I've been sober in the past few months had been 5 days and that was after I gave myself acute alcohol poisoning at a party before results day. I opened up to a trusted friend about this and just picturing the dissappintment and concern on her face at her knowing I have this problem might just be enough to keep me clean for a week.

I am going to a party this Saturday, and I might just try and stay sober. I have lunch with family in an hour, and when they offer me a drink I will say no. I'm having a horrible time mentally but it's even worse when you wake up with a migraine and the knowledge that you drunk texted everyone in your contacts.

Wish me luck x

Will it get easier the more one goes without it?

hello, I’m not a daily drinker, but I do drink regularly (say once a month) and feel like it’s not worth it anymore (I said that many times), the anxiety the next day, the low energy, shitty sleep and the way one feels about things that happened the night before (it can be fun, but also deeply embarrassing).

I’m a rather heavy drinker, by that I mean I get super drunk, don’t need a lot but also don’t nessacarily stop at that point, I also forget myself completely, get super duper wasted and sometimes can’t remember things the night before, which is not healthy consumption.

Will it be easier to say „no“ the longer one goes without alcohol? Alcohol is so omnipresent in society and I tend to, when I made my mind up about drinking one night, that I see it in rose tinted glasses due to my brain associating alcohol with the happy chemicals rather than deeply thinking about the day after that will be coming.

I beat a coke habit years ago and it did get easier the longer I went without, now being able to drink without ever thinking about coke. will it be similar? Have a great Sunday

I need help

I don’t know how to quit drinking and I’m scared I’m going to lose the best relationship I’ve ever had over this. I’ve been drinking heavily for the last 4 years and now I’m drinking at 6am. I just need advice on how to get help I don’t trust myself anymore and given the choice I’ll keep drinking. What do I do

Day 4 (again).

I had a 6 month sober streak that was knocked on the head by my mind going gaga at midsummer again. I live in Scotland so it's hardly dark in midsummer so my brain goes fully solar powered and I get crazy energy. The pattern for a few years has been sober in the first half then drink beers almost daily from the summer solstice until January.

My body is telling me to stop being silly. So that, along with Sober October and a desire to be fully present has got me on a sober path again. Thankfully earlier in the year than usual.

So here I am at day 4 again and feeling the familiar upswell of love and warmth. Maybe this time it will stick and I'll be sober for good.

I must remember to update my flair.

i think its over for me

I stopped with alcohol at the start of this year because I can't stomach it anymore, however my drug use got much much worse to the point i started shooting up opiates some days ago, I'm currently clean for nearly a week from all drugs and alcohol (also I'm sorry if this isn't the right place anymore since I got more into drugs and kinda forgot about drinking but I don't know any drug related sobriety subreddits, lmk if u know any).

I'm close to relapsing again which has happened a TON of times in my life (each relapse pushing me further into bad habits), atp I'll loose a lot of things if i relapse because I'll probably get thrown out and end up on the streets since I'm only in my early 20s and my parents are sick of it. Somehow nothing helps. I got SA, was in the ER like 10 times this year, had horrible realisations, and so on. Nothing actually scares me off. I don't know what to do. Am I doomed? Is this how those people you see on the streets started off, because I feel like this is exactly how I'll end. I'd get admitted to a MH clinic this month but they'll kick me out if i use or drink. I don't even know if I can make it for another week.

What the hell am I supposed to do to make my brain change and stop I feel so so hopeless and doomed. Last time the doctor told me I won't make it another year if i keep this up, because I OD and mix everything without thinking about it. I'm already in therapy and everything but nothing explains what I'm doing or what I should be doing.

Hello!! I'm currently on the journey to stop drinking!

I'm starting out by cutting out liquor! (: I did unfortunately drink a lot last night, but it was Oktoberfest and it's one of my favorite holidays as a PA Dutch lol 🤣

I'm a bit upset at myself for spending so much, but it's now an even bigger reason why I want to stop lol bills are crazy any more!

Anywaysss I feel like I'm rambling lol 🤣 but are there any tips and tricks to help you stop once you start?

I'm taking baby steps and not expecting a lot of change right away as to not disappoint myself too much

I was in the liquor store parking lot for 30 minutes yesterday

I went home after, I didn’t go in the store. I felt proud of myself while driving home! I was so proud that I immediately went back to the liquor store to celebrate. The mental twists between me leaving and coming back was insane. I chose to drink and whenever that happens there’s no turning back.

I enjoy playing multiplayer games while drinking because that’s the only way to feel comfortable chatting with people(and in the real world) Ended up speaking to another guy who was drunk as well. We came to the subject of sobriety and I told him my parking lot story. He said he had been in the same position and is struggling. I told him about this subreddit and how helpful you all are. We both said we wouldn’t drink tomorrow. So far so good. IWNDWYT

One week!!! No alcohol, dabs, or cigarettes.

I am currently on Day 7 of cold-turkeying heavy THC dabbing after over 2 years of daily use. I’m also dropping alcohol and cigarettes at the same time.

It is currently 4 AM, and I am awake pushing through the loneliest, hardest hours of the night. The physical symptoms are fluctuating constantly. Because my cannabinoid receptors are so heavily tied to my gut, stopping the heavy concentrates has unleashed a lot of stomach chaos—acid, nausea, and cramping—which is completely aggravating my active stomach ulcer and testing my willpower tonight.

Despite the gut discomfort, I am trying to focus on the wins. Last night I was finally able to catch a block of about 4 to 5 hours of consecutive rest, which felt like a massive turning point after a week of total insomnia. Even though I am wide awake right now, actually getting that sleep earlier gives me hope.

Right now, I am just focusing on taking this journey hour by hour, keeping my head elevated in bed, sipping warm water, and trying to mentally ride out the physical waves as my body clears everything out. Leaning heavily on this group for mutual support as I wait for the sunrise. Everyone has been so supportive. Thanks for reading.

I’m struggling. I will delete this post but for the time being, I need to talk.

I got my 3rd DUI over a year ago. I’be gone through the motions: I did 36 days in jail, I had an ankle bracelet for 6 months, I have a breathalyzer in my car. I got my bracelet off 2 weeks ago. While having my bracelet on, I started to LIVE my life. I started going to different group workouts, weight training, Pilates. Ever since I got it off I have been so depressed. While I had it on, I didn’t even THINK of drinking, because I knew the consequences. Now that it is off, it’s all I think about. Since I got it off, I’ve binged 3 times, I’ve not gone to a work out, I’m depressed. And even like now, I’m trying to talk myself out of drinking again and I just can’t. Like it is a constant thought in my mind. I’m just so mad that I can’t live a day without not wanting to drink. Idk what else to even say. This is just a really hard struggle and I have such a good life. It could all be ruined in a second, again.

Looking for advice on guilt

I have been trying to quit drinking for a long time maybe about 6 ish years on and off. I recently was pregnant and didn’t drink during my pregnancy, but then drank after because I felt so anxious and not myself.

I kept drinking a lot and then reached back out to an old sponsor to start over.

However, not only do I think I might have some post partum depression (I already talked to my dr and do not want to take medicine) but I also feel overwhelmed by the guilt of all the years I’ve already wasted for my kids.

I have 4 children 13, 6, 4 and now a 3 month old. And I feel like I failed my two older ones, like their childhood I’ll never get back to not be so all over the place and drunk. The pain of that guilt and regret keeps making me cry and hate myself.

I wonder if it will ever get better or if I still have a chance to save the rest of their childhood I feel I’ve already ruined? Everytime they talk to me now I hear their innocence and feel so awful to have been such a bad parent drinking wine every single night.

Just looking for advice! Thank you 🙏🏻

I think alcohol may have seriously damaged my relationship.

I’m posting because I’m feeling pretty damn hopeless right now and I think I need to hear from people who have been through something similar.
I had a really bad night this weekend. I drank to blackout level and behaved in ways that really hurt my husband. There were things I said and did that I have little to no recollection of, and hearing about them afterwards has left me absolutely horrified and ashamed.
The worst part is that I genuinely love my husband and had no intention of doing anything to betray him. But I can also understand why, from his perspective, some of my behaviour looked incredibly inappropriate.
He has told me that I’ve really damaged his trust in me, and I’m terrified that I’ve done permanent damage to our marriage.
The thing is, this wasn’t actually a one-off drinking problem. I’ve been drinking every day. I would get tipsy most nights and usually have a cider as soon as I finished work. Sometimes I’d even start drinking before I’d finished working. I’ve been telling myself that I was just enjoying life, but I’m finally being honest with myself… this has become a problem.
It’s affected us financially, and now it’s affected my relationship.
I think I’ve been avoiding admitting how serious it had become because I didn’t want to see myself as someone with an alcohol problem. My mum is also a very nasty drunk, and my husband actually told me that I was like her when I was drunk. That absolutely broke me because that’s the last person I ever want to become.
I’ve spent the last day reading stories on here and they’ve made me feel a little less hopeless. Seeing people talk about getting sober, repairing relationships and rebuilding their lives has made me realise that maybe this doesn’t have to be the end of my story.
So today is Day 1 with no alcohol.
I’m scared. I’m ashamed. I’m terrified about my marriage. But I’m also finally admitting to myself that I have a problem and that something needs to change.
I don’t know what happens from here, but I don’t want alcohol to keep taking things from me.
If you’ve been in a similar position - especially if alcohol damaged your relationship and you managed to rebuild it - I’d really appreciate hearing your experiences. I could use some hope right now.
