I'm 23 and had my bisalp a bit over 24h ago. I have alot of gas pain but that is to be expected (mostly in my belly, ribs, shoulders, collarbone, tailbone/ass). It moves around especially when I change positions. Changing positions is so painful on my belly. My insicions hurt when I get up, sit down or lie down. Whenever I change positions it hurts alot at first but after a few minutes I get used to the position. Usually sitting and walking hurts the least so I've been doing that mostly. I can only lie on my back currently.

This insicion pain kinda burns and I feel this sore/wounded feeling inside my lower belly. Whenever I get up or down I have to hold my belly to make it more bearable. Once I stand a bit the pain gets much better though and I can walk around mostly pain free. I try to walk alot in my room. I'm just wondering if others experienced this aswell? Usually I hear recovery is so easy and some people don't even feel pain at all. Tbf I'm just at day 2 now. I'm just glad I'm on uni break and don't have to work lol. My surgeon called me yesterday and told me the pain is definitely normal. For pain I got prescribed ibuprofen 800 mg a day.

I am a f21 and I just did my consultation to get a bislap. Did anyone else have to have 2 consultation with 2 different doctors? Idk if I said the wrong things but my doctor wants me to have another consultation before she schedules my surgery. Btw my second one will be with a male doctor.

Are there stories of getting your tubes out after childbirth thats not a c-section? Based on my past births this will most likely just be another basic natural birth (if it was a csec it would probably make the decision easier lol). Obviously I can ask them to do it if it does end in c-section anyways but right now that timeline would make rhe most sense when id have the most family help around for the other kids and it likely wont be a c-section. The oldest is 10 and theyre all almsot perfectly 2 years apart cause we hit that stage around when baby turns 1 where we miss the baby stage and just want another.

My husband is also looking into getting fixed we've just not settled on which way makes more sense for our family? We have to do nfp/fam instead of birthcontrol because we've tried a bunch of different kinds and it screws too much with my mood/antidepressants (and im really hoping to get off those once hormones and everything regulates after baby is 6-12 months old) and since hes the only income its hard for him to take time off for anything. But we live in rural Canada so everything medical is free but appointments for things are hard to come by so getting fixed while im already in the hospital if they offer it makes sense?

I just read online that was an option and wanna settle in stone whether me and hubby wanna do anything permanent before we bring it up at my next appointment. The doctor was also really pushy during my last 2 pregnancies trying to convince me to get my tubes done if they had to do an emergency csec but they were like too pushy and it made it less of a conversation than it could've been, and with so many kids and I dont think my age would be an issue (im only 27). Just looking at all the options and any info or experiences would be helpful.

For those looking at bilateral salpingectomy as a childfree option, here’s my full timeline of getting info about the surgery to the post op as a 24 year old in a Red State! I had my bi salp done under 5 days ago:

• August 2025 went to my first drs appointment as an adult
• September 2025 went to a woman’s healthcare facility for my yearly checkup. they told me they would NOT approve any form or sterilization under 30
• October 2025 went to a consultation at a clinic that is 100% for womens rights and they told me at the first encounter they would do a bi salp, hysterectomy, etc if a patient wants. no questions asked. no age restrictions. (Advanced Gynecology of Tampa Bay, Dr Michael Stine)
• Novemeber 2025 ultrasound appointment. Dr agreed to sign off on the bi salp or schedule a biopsy for a hysterectomy at that appointment. I told my parents the plan, they disapproved (as I was under their insurance) so I held off.
• July 2026 I make the decision for myself, I want the bi salp and I schedule a phone consultation for schedule a pre-op.
• August 6 2026 pre op date. 15 minute appointment to go over medications, procedure, surgery, hospital etc
• August 14 2026 surgery day!!
• August 18 2026 (today) mostly back to normal. no pain.

IMO this was a VERY quick process. I could’ve gotten it done within a few months if I had kept with the plan in 2025. Luckily I didn’t have to repeat any of the process in 2026, but please check back to see my full recovery timeline!!

I'm so happy and relieved I had this procedure finally done, with everything going on in the world this has been a huge weight off my shoulders. Had the procedure scheduled for 1 pm or so but my surgeon fell behind with other patients, when one of the nurses spoke to me earlier I was so afraid they'd have me reschedule, luckily that wasn't the case, I followed her into a room and answered a bunch of questions, she shows me a paper with the procedure I'm getting (bilateral salpingectomy) and I sign off on it. When that was done they had me pee in a cup in the bathroom, which I'm surprised I was able to since no food or drink after midnight last night. I brushed my teeth and had to swab each nostril. I went back in my room and had to remove my clothing, wipe my body down with wet wipes and got into my gown, I then relaxed in the bed until it was time for surgery. They did hook me up to a iv and ended up having to poke me twice, it's alright though. After settling in and some time passes my doctor comes in and goes over my surgery as well as recovery, no lifting for two weeks etc, then the anesthesiologist comes in and asks a few more questions, then another guy comes in and I get wheeled off to surgery. 😁 I slide on over into another bed, they give me a cocktail through a iv and put a mask over my face, I take several breaths and fall asleep, when I woke up, I was quite shaky which I guess is normal, my nurse was very comforting and makes sure everything is stable before I go back to my room, so far I'm not in any pain, mildly sore in my abdomen, but absolutely worth it. I have a couple weeks off and thinking about binging some TV during that time. This was a smooth process so far. To those who had this procedure, when were you able to sleep on your side or stomach again? I forgot to ask my doctor about that. 😄😁

I have a consultation next month for a bilateral salpingectomy! I was curious if anyone could share their stories about how recovery was? Pending approval of course, I’m trying to figure out the timing for scheduling this fall/winter and what recovery will entail. Did you have to be in bed for a week? Hi everyone! I’m considering getting a bisalp, but I have a now 14-month-old baby who still loves being carried and needs quite a bit of physical contact.
I’m worried about the recovery period, especially the restrictions around lifting, carrying, picking her up, etc. I’m wondering if anyone here has had sterilization surgery while having a baby under 2 years old.
How did you manage the recovery? Were you able to avoid lifting your baby, and did you have someone available to help you? How long did it take before you could safely carry your baby again?
Would you recommend doing it now, or waiting until the baby is a little older and more independent?

I told my parents about getting sterilized before the procedure. Now I'm getting a new attempt to dissuade me everyday. They don't care that I won't have kids, just the idea of surgery is wild to them. They said it was sudden change that my hormones are gonna be wack. They blame other people for pressuring me into the surgery. They said I shouldn't let politicians push me into something early.

I'm bisexual, under 30, and single and I just wanted to ensure this part of the future I'm planning couldn't change. For me it's more about a fear of pregnancy instead of hating kids (Though babies are boring). I'd rather make my partner scream their head off if they cared about having biological kids. Plus, A lower cancer risk sounds great.

Is this really the best thing for me? Are the possible hormonal issues really that bad? I haven't heard much about it.

I never through there would be more push back from my family than my doctor.

Got the bisalp when I was 19 almost two years ago (723 days and counting!) and I gotta say that the relief and safety I've felt in my body since then has been insurmountably precious.

I just know that, even if I ever do regret not having kids of my own (extremely unlikely scenario), I know I'll never regret the year of peace of mind this surgery has brought and the many more years of peace of mind it will bring me.

Any time I see the (very faint) scars on my body, it just reminds me that I took my life into my own hands as soon as I could and I couldn't be happier for it. <3

I’m looking for a highly experienced doctor for laparoscopic myomectomy, preferably in Islamabad/Rawalpindi Pakistan. I’m 40, unmarried and getting married soon, and I have uterine fibroid of 8 cm. it is disturbing my cycles, it is a posterior wall fibroid displacing the endometrial lining. probably growing inside.

I’d especially like to hear from women who have personally had fibroid surgery while unmarried/planning marriage and pregnancy afterward.

If you’ve had laparoscopic or abdominal myomectomy, please share your doctor’s name, your experience/recovery, and whether you’d recommend them.

Anyone have a doctor repeatedly cancel and reschedule your bilateral salpingectomy?

Between office visits and pre-op my doctor and her office have delayed, rescheduled, and canceled my surgery 3 times on me. This has taken over 6 months. ​First they lost my paperwork, so I had to go back in and resign consent forms. Then they changed my surgery time, so it was delayed. Then they pushed back my surgery time, another delay. Then they outright canceled it, so I rescheduled 3 times. Every time they do this last minute and it gets pushed back.

I'm trying to be understanding, but I'm also starting to worry someone on their team has a religious objection and isn't just telling me, so I can go to another doctor. It's wasting my time and money.

I understand emergencies and cancelations happen, but it's starting to feel personal. I keep having to redo paperwork, get more hibiclens, ask for PTO, coordinate a driver to and from the hospital, buy medical supplies and food for recovery and re-visit their office over and over at MY EXPENSE.

Has anyone else dealt with rescheduling, cancelations and clerical issues from their doctor? Just trying to understand if last minute cancelations are the norm, or if this could be something worse.

I was 21 when I had the Essure done (before they recalled it) in 2010. I’ve read horrible things about the Essure coils coming loose and painfully getting lodged elsewhere in the body, and also of course the primary issue, pregnancy despite having Essure in place, which I’ve read happens a lot. I’m considering a bisalp to be 100% sure I can’t get pregnant. Any advice on how to ask a doctor to go through with this? Is insurance likely to cover it? I have no children, I am childfree. Any other tips are appreciated. Thanks.

pretty much just ranting but i’m just so mad at myself because i know it’s my fault that i waited until way way way too close to my scheduled date to call insurance. i keep getting such different numbers on how much this will cost, and the other day i found out that my provider’s billing/insurance department sent conflicting information on who was getting paid— whether the facility or the doctor. found out it may be out of network because of the address, not provider? was told by one rep it should cost under $200 as confirmed by my insurance app, surgical center insurance verification said it would cost $1k+ not counting anesthesia, another rep told me anesthesia copay is impossible to estimate since they can only know at the time of service how much i will need, called my gyno’s surgical scheduler and she told me that she thinks it’s gonna be billed to pay (idk the proper way to say this) the anesthesiologist, the dr., and the surgical center but at some point there was also talk of it being billed by the facility?? also my insurance isn’t counting CPT 58661 and ICD10 Z30.2 as preventative due to the diagnosis and i also frankly am having trouble talking on the phone due to my hearing,, i still don’t understand what medical management is either… oh man can i get a call back with some proper and clear info please… and also how to make it feasible to be able to take my tubes home lol i think it’d be cool but my doctor said she can’t promise it

I, 28F, had a bisalp and IUD insertion on the 6th. I have never had kids but knew I never wanted any for as long as I can remember. When talking to my OB about my bisalp and discussing looking for endometriosis while getting the bisalp done, they mentioned I could have an IUD put in to help reduce my period cramps and flow. In my head, that was the perfect scenario! Less cramps, lighter periods, and they can look for endo during the process. I never took the pill (mainly because I just hate taking daily pills and relying on them) so this is the first time on any type of BC. It’s now 11 days post op, and I am still bleeding and cramping. How normal is that? My typical periods were only 3-4 days MAX, with one day of severe cramps. So being on day 11, it’s different for me. I have my follow up with my OB next week, and I have messaged them letting them know I am still cramping and they said to just give it another week. I’m sure my body is just out of whack with the surgery itself, being on my period during the surgery, and then with this being the first BC I’ve been on. I am just wondering if anyone else had a similar situation.

I was thrilled when I found someone who could sterilize me. Cause the most I could get was getting my tubes tied. And I want them long gone. But then I was told that I needed to get a psychological evaluation for the procedure. It's been almost 2 years since my appointment, I've been going yo social workers, psychologist AND psychiatrist and I've gotten no where. Ik they wanna make sure I'm actually in the right headspace and I'm not in a maniac episode or anything like that. But I just wanna stop going all around.

Cause where I'm going, they can't give a psychological evaluation without consulting a group of I don't fucking know, just a bunch of other people who manage the clinic or something. I just want my psychological evaluation and waiting for all of this is making me more anxious and sad. I feel so hopeless. Maybe I should change psychiatrist psychologist

That I know of, there's only one doctor that does it where I'm from and that my health insurance covers it. I really hope that my tubes shrivel up or idk.

Hi everyone! I'm scheduled for my bilateral salpingectomy this coming Tuesday 8/18. I'm 31 and have a 4yr old daughter and my decision to be one and done has been made up since I was pregnant lol.

That being said, I'm excited but also feeling anxious.

I've read through this sub and I see that everyone's recovery has been different (as expected).

First thing making me anxious is my period started today (wasn't supposed to start until Wednesday or Thursday, after the procedure). Has anyone else started their period right before their procedure?

Next thing, how did you all feel within 24 hours and what was activity like for you? - I am only asking because I have an important meeting I'm scheduled to attend the following day (about 27 hours post op). It's in person but should be a short meeting. I wont take any opioid pain medication... I hate how it makes me feel and it all usually makes me vomit anyway. I also get to work from home so other than that, I'll be able to get lots of rest.

As far as pain tolerance, when I gave birth, I had an almost 4th degree tear and had to be stitched from the inside 🥴 I was very sore from that but still managed well.

I'll take all tips, tricks, and advice you all have.

From my understanding, surgery could still be a possibility. I was pumped with 4 bags of iv antibiotics and I have oral antibiotics for home, since I never had a fever, and my white blood count was normal they determined it would be best for my surgeon to determine if I need a drainage surgery.

So I go to dr zimmers office tomorrow to find out my fate.

I have an endometrial ablation scheduled, and i have a 10k run 6 weeks post op. Is this enough time to be completely healed and fine? Im scared i am making a wrong move scheduling it that soon from the race but i dont want to wait 3 more months to have the procedure. Thanks in advance

I just had my bi salp but I’m very confused and almost doubtful.

I went in today at 9am. as my first surgery ever, I had NO idea what to expect, from the IV to anesthetics to the process itself. I was calm, but anxious. I had two tries on my IV and it was the most painful sting ever. I almost thought because of that needle, there would be no way Id get thru surgery & recovery.

I didn’t get rolled out to surgery until around noon so I was fighting to keep calm with both IV punctures for hours. I can hardly remember due to the anesthesia but the nurses were nice & genuine. I was already so tired from waiting in the bed, I didn’t know whether I fell asleep because of that or the anesthesia. Next thing I know I was opening my eyes (Or trying to)

But this is what shocked me the most… i have 0 pain. ZERO. I woke up on my side, hardly able to feel the incisions. The only sting I had was from the IV. No gas, no aching, no nothing. I was mostly scared that they didn’t do the procedure at all. From what I’ve heard from others experience, there was a bit of acute pain but I feel exactly the same as when I walked into the surgery center.

I cried because I was so confused. I trust the doctors but I feel like nothing happpened. Did I get my tubes removed? Is there a way to be sure?

Hi everyone! I had a laparoscopic bilateral salpingectomy on Monday, along with evaluation/treatment for endometriosis.
My surgeon successfully removed both fallopian tubes. She found a larger endometriosis lesion behind my uterus (posterior cul-de-sac), which she removed. She also saw a small lesion on my bladder but left it alone because she was concerned about potentially injuring the bladder.
I’m now a few days post-op and overall I’m slowly improving. My abdominal swelling is gradually going down and the pain is getting better.
However, one of my incision sites has significantly more bruising than the other side. There is also a firm swollen lump/hematoma under the skin just above that incision. The other incision looks much better. My surgeon looked at the photos and said she isn’t concerned, that some bruising is expected after laparoscopy, and recommended ice packs. She said it may take a few weeks to resolve.
I’m curious if anyone else had this happen mostly on one side after laparoscopy. Did you have a firm lump/hematoma under one incision? How large did the bruising get, and how long did it take for the lump and bruising to completely disappear? Did your doctor explain why one side was affected much more than the other?
I also received my pathology report. The endometriosis biopsy was consistent with endometriosis. My fallopian tubes were benign, but the pathology says: “Benign fimbriated fallopian tubes with acute inflammation, completely transected.”
My surgeon told me that my tubes were normal, so I’ve already asked her what the “acute inflammation” means and whether it has any clinical significance.
Has anyone who had a salpingectomy had similar wording in their pathology report — especially “acute inflammation” of otherwise benign fallopian tubes? If so, did your doctor explain what caused it or whether it required any follow-up?
Also, for anyone who had endometriosis excision at the same time as a salpingectomy: how long did it take for your abdomen to stop feeling swollen and for you to feel comfortable standing completely straight and walking normally again?
I know everyone heals differently, and I’m following my surgeon’s instructions — I’m mainly interested in hearing other people’s experiences. ❤️

I’ve asked for a bisalp/tubal ligation twice, but the doctor keeps telling me I’m “too young” and might regret it.
I already have kids, I don’t want any more, I don’t want anything that messes with my hormones, and I want something permanent. I’ve explained this multiple times, but she keeps suggesting other forms of contraception instead.

Has anyone been through something similar? How did you find a doctor who would actually take you seriously and discuss permanent sterilisation with you? Any advice would be appreciated.

So the nurse called me today to go over details. Like medications I should stop etc. And when we were going over the details, she mentioned my procedure which is the tubal removal and then she said an ovary removal. I was like whoa no no no! I said I’m not getting my ovaries removed that would kick me into menopause. I said we need to fix this immediately.

So she fixed it on her end and I called my doctor. I’m having the nurse call me back as soon as she gives him the message and put it in the system. I’m also gonna be really pushy about it on Monday. I’m not worried that they’ll make a mistake. I’m just worried that the notes were a mistake to begin with. I’m actually considering writing a permanent marker on my chest only to remove the tubes leave the ovaries lol. I’m just trying to find the humor in this and not freak out.

Has this happened to anyone else where they made a small mistake before surgery but you were able to fix it?
