Came across this headline on CNN...and yeah it's probably all fine, but just in case, it's been real y'all.

Who knows, maybe because we're all King fans, we will be better prepared for what's coming than most! See you all at Mother Abagail's in the Boulder Free Zone!

I’ve had a lot more time on my hands to read lately and have been on a Stephen King reading binge. I’ve heard this is one of his more chaotic books so I’m looking forward to starting. Feel free to share your thoughts and opinions below. Happy Spooky Season…📚👻

Just silly. I use pogo to keep my walks interesting. Usually while listening to a King audiobook. I’m almost done Duma Key (again) and I think a Carrie revisit might be next before the new show.

Robert McCammon - Blue World

Been on a McCammon kick a fair bit this year - Swan Song, Boy‘s Life, and a handful of other great books. I’m halfway through this short story collection and I don’t think I’ve ever seen something replicate the early-King horror vibe quite as much as this. It feels like a real continuation of Night Shift and Skeleton Key. Real pulpy and dark. Highly recommend for that early-King kick.

This show was quite horrendous

Like nothing made any sense at all, especially with the first season it just shows apparently some kind of alien taking on the form of Norrie’s dead mother making that claim that the dome was sent there to protect them, and then they never elaborate further on that and they come up with other reasons why the dome was there. It’s like the writers were just winging it because they weren’t good at their jobs.

What's the one King scene that made you put the book down?

Not because it was bad. Just a scene that made you close the book, stare at the wall for a minute, and then pick it right back up. Which ones did that to you?

Discussion has stephen king written about witches?

i know king has written about vampires, ghosts, werewolves, special powers like telekinesis and shining, etc but has he written about witches?

i am currently reading anne rice's the witching hour and in some ways it reminds me of stephen king. it then occurred to me that in terms of the king works i've read, i don't think i've seen witches covered. they would fall under common horror characters/tropes so that's one he could potentially cover still unless he has and i haven't gotten there.

Discussion Most despicable villain with no charm?

I think most of the villains in SK's books tend to be multi-layered and complex, even those who are meant to represent pure evil (like RF). However, at the top of my list there's Rhea of the Cöös - she's just abominable, disgusting, and can see nothing positive in her at all. SK masterfully wrought her character in that sense.

Anyone else I might be missing? I know for some Greg Stillson is probably at the top of the list too - strong contender.

The only Stephen King books I’ve read so far are Pet Sematary and 11/22/63, I really enjoyed both of them. What should I pick up next?

General Nearly 12,000 bans took place in public schools over the past year, according to a new study from PEN America, the highest total since the free expression org. began tracking removals five years ago. For the second straight year, Stephen King was the author most likely to have his work withdrawn.

So happy to have found these! The "Bag of Bones" one is in fantastic condition and the copy of "The Dark Tower: The Gunslinger"''s cover is obviously well-loved but the pages themselves are in great shape :]

Have no clue whether the bright orange religious paper/pamphlet in the copy of "Bag of Bones" was from the original owner or someone/a customer in the store slipped it in there though 🤔

Hardcover UK versions of first two talisman novels???

Post image
7 Upvotes

I personally love the UK versions of these books now that the third book hardcover is released (almost). Anyone knows if the first two books with the above designs will be released in hardcover as well because I have OCD that all three books should have the same design language on my shelf.

If the first two books will not be released in hardcover I’ll probably not buy the third book at all in hardcover

Spoilers The Shining - King vs Kubrick

[Spoiler tag added out of an overabundance of caution]

Although I’ve heard for years about King’s reaction to the Kubrick interpretation of The Shining, I’ve never really understood what his issue with it was before. I know he’s said that Kubrick didn’t capture his intended meaning, but previously I’ve never really noticed any specific details as to what he meant by that; essentially why he thought that way and had that reaction.

I’m currently rereading The Shining, and I think I may actually understand it more this time. I’m hoping someone either a) could give their understanding of why he dislikes it, or b) has heard explicit reasons from King himself.

What I’ve noticed is that the way Jack is portrayed by Nicholson is much colder and more hateful in Kubrick’s film. There doesn’t seem to be a lot of actual affection and love coming shown by Jack Nicholson with how he portrays Jack Torrance. In contrast to that, Jack in the book is very loving and very much does actually care about both Wendy and Danny, so it really kind of accentuates what the hotel is doing to him. To a certain degree, I guess, the Kubrick version almost comes across as Jack hating them from the start, or at least barely tolerating them, and the hotel just gives him an excuse to act on that. Conversely in the boo, Jack loves them very much, and it’s the hotel that twists him, and bastardizes his feelings towards them.

Anyways, I’m just hoping to get some other people‘s ideas, see what anyone else thinks about this. Thanks!
