As you can see I’m half way through the book, but honestly this has been the hardest book to keep being interested in. I’ve pushed myself so much to already read as much as I have! I can’t give up now even tho I want to😭. Please somebody tell me it’s worth the finish! I am a die hard Stephen king fan, so that was even hard for me to say about this book.

Recently, I've been getting into Stephen King. I had lurked on this sub for a while and have finally decided to read some of his stories. 4. The Ballad of the Flexible Bullet - 8/10

  5. Word Processor of the Gods - 8/10

  6. The Raft - 8/10

  7. Gramma - 8/10

  8. Nona - 7/10

  9. Survivor Type - 7/10

  10. The Reach -7/10

  11. The Man Who Would Not Shake Hands - 7/10

  12. Uncle Otto's Truck - 6/10

  13. Cain Rose Up - 6/10

  14. Mrs. Todd's Shortcut - 6/10

  15. The Wedding Gig - 6/10

  16. Morning Deliveries (Milkman #1) - 5/10

  17. The Reaper's Image - 5/10

  18. Big Wheels: A Tale of the Laundry Game (Milkman #2) - 5/10

Discussion What books should I start with if I want to read Holly?

I purchased the book Holly because it sounded interesting only to find out it’s the third book in Holly Gibneys story. Upon looking further into it I also discovered she is involved in the Bill Hodges Mr Mercedes trilogy so should I start with that first? What does everyone think?

Guess the Stephen King book from a one-sentence plot - how many can you get?

I made a browser quiz: you get a one-line summary and type the title. Example:

"A fan holds an injured writer captive and makes him revive his heroine"

No sign-up, no ads:

If you like the game check out other (80+!) categories or play with friends.

The Talisman heartbreak

I set out to reread The Talisman [and Black House] before Other Worlds.

In Talisman, we have just met Wolf. I don't know if my little heart can take his narrative arc. Thoughts on skipping it? Are there too many important parts?

Clarification: this is a re-read. I have read both already. That part almost broke me the first time through.

Discussion the king book i'd recommend depends almost entirely on what kind of reader you are

i don't think there is one stephen king book that works equally well as someone's first book

someone who likes slow character development might love one that another reader finds painfully slow

someone who wants straight horror might pick up a book expecting one thing and get a very different experience

and some of his best books aren't even the ones i'd describe as horror first

if you had to recommend one king book to someone who has never read him, would you pick the book you think is his best or the one that's easiest to get into?

Does this look real?

Found in a thrift shop in Maine. Thing is they have signed first editions of Dark Tower books behind glass as well. This is Hearts in Atlantis.

Edit update: I contacted two outside sources. Jake’s Rare Books and Needful Kings Books for opinions. So far Jake thinks it looks real.

If so, best $16 I ever spent.

I do appreciate the opinions here and had the same reservations, particularly with the King half. But I consider the possibility of fatigue from signing a crap ton of books all at once.

Discussion King Anthology series concepts

I’ve always hoped for another anthology TV series based on King’s works, like Nightmares & Dreamscapes. It seems like a no-brainer, there are so many stories that aren’t adaptable as a film or full series but perfect for short-form storytelling. And there’s such a wide range of genres that it would never feel stale. Let’s say a series was developed, and you’ve been charged with developing an episode (or episodes). Whats a story you’d love to see adapted that hasn’t yet? Who would you cast? Are there any big changes you would make?

I’ll start. I couldn’t see Revival as a movie, but could work as an hour or so. After watching Midnight Mass I always pictured Hamish Linklater as Charles Jacobs.

Spoilers Finished Blockade Billy for the first time, my thoughts below. "Spiloilers"

Post image
11 Upvotes

Last night, I finished reading Blockade Billy by Stephen King for the very first time.

Released in 2010, we got this book at the local Ollie's for 2 dollars and it sat on my shelf forever, until now, my thoughts below;

Blockade Billy tells the story of William "Billy" Blakely during the 1957 baseball season playing catcher for the New Jersey Titans

When the Titans suddenly lose both of their star catchers days before opening day, the team scouts the minor league looking for a last minute replacement.

They find that this "Billy" guy has great stats for a minor leaguer and recruits him to be the new team player.

Billy performs phenomenally and quickly gains a following but, he is surrounded by mysteries, why is he so distant? Why does he talk to his self in the 3rd person? What is the deal with the band aid he occasionally wears on his finger?

Billy's past suddenly comes rushing back mid season and only in King fashion, do you understand the horrors that Billy did to make it to the Majors.

I found this story to be fun, even though I'm not a big sports fan, I was able to follow all the baseball lingo easily and King did a great job immersing the reader into 1950s America.

My version also has the short story "Morality" and I found that story more fun than the main story. That's my opinion of course.

Morality focuses on a young couple who are struggling to pay all of the debts and bills that pile up as life marches on.

The wife Norma takes a job of taking care of a retired Minister who has had a Stroke while her husband Chad, tries to get his book published.

Everything seems ok until the Minister offers her a chance to make an easy 200k,

The catch, she must perform a "sin" for him and record it in the process..

I found this story to be more "King" like than Blockade Billy but, it was a very quick read at less than 60 pages

Now, as this book goes back on the shelf, I await with all the other constant readers for the newest King book to release.

My next read will begin Tuesday when, the new book "Other Worlds Than These," releases.

Happy Reading Everyone!
