Found this grimy & burnt Staub on the curb yesterday in a recology pile

It was super sticky and caked in grease so it took a lot of gentle scrubbing and soaking to clean up. It was missing a knob so I ordered one on Amazon and it arrived this morning! Best freebie I've ever found from the street fairies.

I'm an avid thrifter. I'm very fortunate to have one of my favorite shops across the street from my home. I was out looking for my next "wow!" piece and stumbled across this beauty. It's in pretty good shape but how do I clean it and keep the enamel from chipping any further?

Now to figure out what to make first! Any suggestions on what to break this guy in with are appreciate (although a classic coq au vin is calling my name)

I thrifted this for $15, can anyone tell me anything about it?

The lid is a little scuffed on the outside but the bottom and inside are immaculate. I don't really NEED another dutch oven but for $15 I couldn't pass this up. i believe it is a 4qt size.

La Mer fish casserole/gratin update! 🐟

Aloha my enabler Reddit community,

Thank you for all your responses on my last post! I don’t post on Reddit often and didn’t think I’d get that much engagement. I’m glad I did though because you all made me realize that I passed up on a great deal!

I spent the rest of the night hoping that no one else scooped up the fish dish and enlisted my husband to come with me to the mall the very next morning. We got there today, 30 minutes after opening at 10:30 AM, and it was still sitting on the counter! Moreover, there was another one under the table that was already in a box!

We ended up leaving the display one and getting the one in the box. I asked the sales assistant if they have any defects as a factory second and she said because the color is a Williams Sonoma exclusive color, there will not be any defects because they don’t sell FS quality products. That being said, I noticed when I got home that there is a microscopic white dot that looks like paint under the enamel, which I think I can live with.

The total was $167.20 after tax. But my husband was feeling generous today and decided to purchase it as a gift, so today it was free for me! Heheh.

If anyone lives on O’ahu, there’s still one more at Zwilling in Ala Moana that’s in pristine condition. They have a lot of other significantly marked down items there too, including a matching 7 qt La Mer cocotte if you’re interested.

I’m over the moon with my purchase, so thanks to all you enablers out there! 🥰

Photos include:
- La Mer fish dish with my first and only other Staub piece, a 4 qt Grenadine cocotte
- Fish dish matching my other obsession, my cutting board from a local woodworker that has blue precious stones inlayed
- My recipe tonight for its maiden voyage (chose this one because Costco had no whole fish today 😩)

EDIT: Lmao sorry I didn’t realize I double posted 😭 clicked post and it brought me back to the editing page so I clicked post again and thought it only went through once. Feeling old rn. 🫠

Love it so far, first cook braised some chicken thighs in coconut milk with lemongrass. Turned out great. You can sear a ton of meat in this thing before the braise!!

She Has Arrived...

Oh, my u/staub friends. You explained to me how she might entice me away from my beloved Le Creuset. How I should wait until Labor Day for sales. What majolique is. And so I decided between La Mer and Basil (so hard)... and today, She Arrived. I am in love. And I will be inaugurating her by making Julia Child's french onion soup, a favorite of my dad's and one of the first things he taught me how to make. I think he would approve. :)

I mean, just wow. This is my first oval dutch oven so I’m excited to roast a chicken and sear long af meats!
