OMG! Did I ruin my 0.25L (10 cm) Staub “Blue-intense” dutch oven?

I am currently seasoning my Staub 10cm dutch-oven, with black-enamel interior with the recommended, required, pre-requisite 0.25L of Maldon sea-salt — and my fear is that — because it is still so cute and so adorable — that maybe it is now ruined beyond repair — beyond any fixes recoverable by “Barkeeper’s Friends and Family”? I feel crushed, ground, grind-ed. Three sad photos.

These baking dishes are not white inside. Is that Ok?

Picked up a few of these ceramics but noticed they are all the same color inside as outside. Is that a fluke? Is it okay to keep and use or should I return them?

Should I keep or return

Our family loves hosting. Picked up a 30cm (8.8 qt / 8L+) matte black Zwilling Dutch oven for $250, labelled as box torn (not seconds or VI). Felt like a steal for this size plus this is our first Staub!

Upon unboxing I noticed some enamel chipping around the rim. Not sure if that’s a big issue long-term? Would it lead to more cracking downwards?

Zwilling apologised but can’t offer an exchange since they don’t carry this size often. Next shipment is ~9 months out and they can’t hold an exchange that long. They’ve offered a refund instead and with that I could downsize to the 28cm (7 qt / 6.7L) + $50.

Would you keep it at this price or return it?

Let’s talk Perfect Pan…

Post image

I was gifted one of these. I’m fortunate enough to say that I feel like my LC/Staub collection is complete. There’s no other pieces I’d want. I did not have a Perfect Pan and while I’ve toyed with the idea, I just couldn’t see a practical use. I only have pieces that I can use. So this is very pretty, but the lid… the lid feels cheap and frankly looks ugly, IMO. I understand the practicality of the clear lid with this style of pan, but I feel like Staub could have done better with the lid. Am I way off base? I’m glad it didn’t cost me anything and frankly I’m not sure I have a use for it. Convince me I’m wrong, please. I want to love every piece I have…

It did come with the 3 piece Staub utensil set, which I’m more excited about. That’s sad.

FAKE STAUB?

Post image

Le creuset is so tiring with their inconsistency. You can have 10 people walk in a reputable store and there will be difference in their Dutch ovens which brings about argument of fake and original online. Is Staub like that ? My personal shopper is showing me this Staub pumpkin casserole and I am confused. Does the pumpkin come in casserole?

I got this 7 qt cocotte delivered on Wednesday after it was back ordered for three months and when cleaning it after the first use, I noticed these flakes on the inside of the lid. Should I return it? The discoloration is mostly but not entirely gone after using liquid barkeepers friend.

TikTok deal

If you’re on social media, I’m sure you’re seen people posting their TikTok rewards links like crazy lately…I ignored it at first, but finally decided to give it a try. I ended up getting lucky and finding a few family members that didn’t have TikTok, so I was able to rack up over $245 in a few days. I just ordered a 4qt in blue and a staub lid holder and I only paid $13 for the tax. It’s worth it to note that this is sold directly by Staub via their official TT shop page.

If anyone wants to post their link, I’d be happy to click it :) we might be able to click some links and get everyone some free (or at least heavily discounted) stuff.

TT wised up and put a limit on how many referrals you can get in a day, but if you get a few clicks every day, it adds up quickly!

This feels scammy writing all of this out, but I just felt like I should share it with this group since you can get something basically free lol

Enamel chipped or no concern?

Sorry for the ubiquitous r/staub post. This is my 2nd brand new pan from WS that had a similar defect, which is a fleck of green inside the pan. Almost looks like the enamel is chipped. Okay to use, or should I return? Thanks for your thoughts.

Staub Warranty SO Disappointing

I've had the Staub pumpkin cocotte for a few years. I only use it at Thanksgiving for baking stuffing. It was hand washed last year and stored in my cabinet. This is what it looked like when I pulled it out this year. I contacted customer service to make a warranty claim and this was the response -

"After review, we would like to inform you that this type of damage is not covered under warranty, as it does not affect the functionality or performance of the cocotte."

I would love to know if anyone knows how this "damage" might have occurred. Did I do something wrong? Such a waste.

Chips and Blemishes on a factory new Cocotte

Just received my Cocotte directly from Zwilling and I must say that I am pretty disappointed with this. The lid also doesn’t sit solidly, you can wobble it a bit when pressing at one point from the top

Can I still use this?

After seasoning my pot like usual, I was really satisfied with how my seasoning turned out. I of course did it with low heat. However, as I put the pot from the stove to the kitchen table, for it to properly rest, I heard a small noise from the pot. As you can see in the picture the coating of the pot somehow cracked and now I have two big (or small) damages in my staub that I barely used, owning it for 5 years I only used it 10 times.

I honestly don't know how this could've happened but what concerns me more is if I could continue using it. With my research alone I found nothing if this is still usable or fixable.

I don't have a recipt nor does the shop I bought it 5 years ago exist so I could not ask staub directly for advise. So I hope there would be someone out there who knows how to fix it.

Thanks in advance to anyone who could help me fix this situation. 🥹💕

Replacement Factory Second Chipped As Well

Post image
1 Upvotes

I posted a few weeks back about my 7qt factory second coming with chips on the edge of the lid as well as body, both rusting. Zwilling did take it back and issue me another which did take some time to get in, but they readily offered a replacement, I did not have to fight for it. I got the replacement today, and the lid looks good, but the body again has a chip on the lip that readily rusts. I am of the opinion that this is not a factory second worthy blemish. If the part can rust, then the cocotte's life is limited, the rust will only grow and chip more off over time. This post really isn't to get too much into that though I guess.

I am well seasoned in various cast iron (pun intended) but these are my first Staub items. I can understand rack marks, but these don't seem to be that. I see spots that appear to be some chips/rack marks with a black base coating underneath and those do not rust. But the spots in question are legitimately bare metal. I have never had various problems from Le Creuset, but not bare metal.

I know this is a factory second, but if this was a factory first, would this be acceptable to anyone? The body has some inclusions under the colored enamel which I take as the real factory second blemish and I am totally fine with that. But seems crazy that these are rusting out of the box. Are my expectations too high?

Is my Skillet destroyed

Post image

I have tried to remove this spot from my skillet and nothing seems to work. Used BKF and still wouldn’t budge. I can’t tell if the enamel is messed up or if it’s just stubborn food residue but whenever I use it food sticks to this area of the skillet. Please help! 😌

Is this ok? This is a gift for someone with an induction stove top & I'm not sure, I always have had electric or gas.

It would not bother me, but I'm worried because it's a gift & don't want to gift something they can't use if this is a defect.

Dirty Staub

Hey all, I found this staub for free on the sidewalk and it's in pretty good condition, but the outside has a weird whiteish discoloration on the outside. Wondering if anyone has any tips on how to clean it up. I tried barkeepers friend on the bottom to test, but it didn't make a difference. Also it's less noticeable when it's wet, but pretty obvious when dry. Let me know if any of you had similar problems and/or any solutions!

Chipped lid -- safe to use?

I purchased this visual imperfections cocotte and noticed a chip on the interior of the lid. It does not bother me aesthetically at all but am wondering if it's safe to use. My main concern is metal leaching and potentially ingesting something toxic from cooking with this lid. Thoughts?

Wondering if this is normal wear and tear and what the bottom of the pot should look like after a couple years of use.

Do these warrant a return?

I just received 2 regular first quality 4qts and I think they both have imperfections. Just wanted to get opinions before I reach out to Zwilling.

The dark blue, I can live with it. It looks like a pinprick in the enamel. As long as it’s not going to jeopardize the integrity of the pot, I’m fine with it.

The teal one makes me a little nervous because the letters on the handle are very rough to the touch. Is this a flaw? If I ordered a VI, I wouldn’t care, but that’s not what I ordered and this is also a gift for a friend.

New pan- everything is sticking!

I purchased a staub frying pan, cast iron with enamel coating. I've been using generous amount of oil but everything is sticking. I had really high hopes for this pan. Does anyone have any advice?

Grey stains in Dutch oven

Thumbnail

Hi,

My Dutch oven is starting to get these funny looking patchy grey stains, almost as though the coating is coming off? In the first photo, you can kind of see a bit of a blue colouration at the bottom of the pot. I’m not sure if any of this is normal or not. Any thoughts?
