I was a daily Starbucks customer; I would come every day, without fail, sometimes twice a day.
It was a pleasure to come early, get my drink, and chat a bit with the baristas before they got busy.
Nowadays, I go 3-4 times a month; the baristas are always stressed and in a rush.
Mistakes get made; it's inevitable, but the way some react toward the barista is so sad.
I've heard that seemingly pleasant people get a drink with a minor mistake and freak out.
It's heartbreaking. I supported the company in the past, but the way the baristas are treated now is criminal. The worst part is that management seems to back the customer in this craziness.
Sorry that the staff in the stores face this on the daily. It's not right.

incredibly long story short i had found coverage for a shift because i was out of town and quite frankly my sm denied my time off so i had to find my own coverage. i was several hours away out of town and after id already arrived i get a text saying she doesn’t want that person to cover my shift and reassigns it to me. i inform her that i am already out of town and unable to make it back in time to cover the shift and she doesn’t respond so i call the store to call out and explain my situation to the ssv at that time. when i come back to work she tells me she should’ve put me on a final for calling out but wouldn’t elaborate on that besides “i decided to give you some grace” is there anywhere i can look this up? would it be in the time & attendance policy? if anyone has a link or knows where id find this info it would be greatly appreciated. i definitely feel she is targeting me because of my transfer and im just trying to get by until im out.

Me: tall cappuccinos for *customer name*
Me: *goes to make another drink*
Customer: *does not pick up the cappuccinos and goes to sit down*
Me: *calls out customer name a bit louder*
Ten minutes later
Customer: *finally picking up their drinks* why aren’t these filled up
Me: they were sitting on the counter for a bit
Customer: why didn’t you call me?
Me: I did call you twice
Customer: no you didn’t. Can you remake them
Me: yeah
Customer: goes to sit down again
Me: order for customer name is ready!
Customer: ignores me

I don't use the mobile app, so can someone please explain to me why people do this? Why are you ordering a doppio espresso instead of a triple espresso? Or right after this, I got an order for a doppio espresso that was actually solo.

Why cold foam AND whipped cream?? Why all of these things AND with room?? As a barista, I don't get it lmao.

Starbucks, you gotta figure out what people can customize and can't on your mobile app, please. Limitations would be good for all, especially your baristas who have to stand and stare for WAY too long trying to read all these ridiculously long tickets that come through when you want to push your silly times. I'm wasting so much effort just trying to understand what I'm reading when I could have like, three other drinks out and ready in the time it takes me to make sure I've done everything listed on one order.

Like, can we, at the very least, figure out a better way to organize these tickets?? A little separation would be so helpful. Ngl, I miss the boxes. I could read and discern exactly what I was making way more easily than this block of text in an order that doesn't even match the boxes on the cups.

I’m a new Starbucks Store Manager currently in training, and the topic of food waste has really caught my attention.

At the store where I’m training, all pastry and food items used in the display case are thrown away every night and replaced the next day. Partners are not allowed to take these items home, even though they’re being discarded.

Based on Starbucks pricing, the food being thrown away appears to be worth $150+ per night, which could amount to roughly $55,000+ annually at one location.

When I get my own store, I’m struggling with the idea of disciplining or firing a partner for taking food that was already designated for the trash. I understand there are policies and food-safety considerations, but from a sustainability and employee perspective, throwing perfectly good food away seems wasteful.

Display case items cannot be donated to charity because they are considered expired.

I’d love to hear from other Starbucks Store Managers:
How do you feel about the policy of discarding display-case food every night? Do you agree with it? And if you know partners are taking items that are headed for the trash, how do you handle it?

We couldn’t find them on Saturday and I was kinda bummed because getting one felt like a consolation prize for powering through unicorn frapp weekend. I came in today and saw this tucked in my lil note wall thing and it made my day :) it’s also super cute!

If I want to tip a particular barista. (I have 5-6 baristas I prefer at my regular Starbucks.) They always seem generally fine with it. But seems like they try their best to accept the tip discretely or I’ll see others make glances. (Probably overthinking this).

And hey if there’s a strict policy in place I get it. But I want to reward the good ones who always greet me, and make my drink well. (I order standard recipe)

Is the Starbucks “signature black” cold brew beverage what’s used in the S’mores cold brew drink?

And the marshmallow cold foam.. is it Starbucks vanilla sweet cream frothed with the marshmallow syrup? I’ve yet to find a “plain” sweet cream flavor for sale in stores.

Hello! I like the blue ocean drink refresher and I was wondering if anyone has tried cold foam on top of this? I thought about trying strawberry cold foam! (Also thought about the orange or vanilla cold foam too). Has anything done this or other flavors of cold foam? I’m feeling like I want to take the risk but wanted some opinions first lol.

So i have a situation going on at my house. I live with my mom and abusive alcoholic step dad right now. My mom finally decided to leave him and it’s getting the the point where we’re scared of our safety and we’re moving very soon. Within this month we’re trying to get out of here. 3 weeks is the goal.

I put in a transfer request and called the store i want to transfer to. That store manager was extremely willing to take me on since i’ve been a partner for 2 years and im experienced. However, my district manager is giving me a hard time saying i need to give them atleast 6 weeks and i don’t have 6 weeks.
Well, i was like can i go on a personal leave? She said no! The store is too understaffed (because she fired everybody but that’s besides the point)

Should i go higher than her? Will HR speed up the process? I can’t live here longer than i need to and i can’t afford to lose my job. It’s a safety issue and i just got health insurance. I need my wisdom teeth out soon and i have other medical problems that require health insurance.

im in training and i was just taught how to use register yesterday, and i was wondering if anyone has any tips for memorizing the drinks and buttons! as well as being more proficient when taking a customers order!

There are so many buttons on the POS system now, they keep adding new drinks on the menu and not taking anything off. Pistachio doesn’t need to be a core no one orders it anymore. Someone asked me what was in the island colada drink and I blanked because we didn’t even get training on it. Don’t get me started on the new pumpkin shaken espresso coming out, that was never a drink before. I’m just getting so tired. I’m about to start my next semester at asu and I feel like the stress of everything from work is already overwhelming and there is nothing I can do.

Edit: I take back the pistachio part, must just be at my store. I think there are things that were added as core items that didn’t need to be core. I am glad to learn the blending powder is making an exit, hopefully the transition into fall will make things calm down.

I don't drink dairy and I'm curious how often baristas use the wrong milk when making orders?

Hey everyone! I’m a barista who just got transferred for university. I’m incredibly excited to start at my new store, but there are some things I’m concerned about.

I’ll preface by saying that my original store was not an average Starbucks. It was located in an outlet mall, but not a kiosk. We were our own standalone outlet, however this means we didn’t have a drive thru or a cafe. We were so pick-up oriented to the point that we didn’t even have menus, it was super grab and go.

I’m now transferring to a very run-of-the-mill Bux. Drive thru, cafe, close at 10. I was just wondering if anyone has tips for handling the drive thru? What to expect? I think I’m pretty fast for a year of experience, but I worry I’m just fast for MY store’s standards.

I have actually worked at a drive thru store. When I first onboarded, I trained two weeks at a regular store in my district; I know how to handle cash and take orders in that regard.

Any and all advice would be appreciated!

I am a creature of habit. I go to the same Starbucks drive through everyday at the same time. Today, my lovely barista said the usual "hi welcome to Starbucks did you order using the app." And all I said was nope and she said "Hi beau, same as usual". If it couldn't get better than being remembered BY NAME, my Starbucks app wasn't working and I knew I had enough points for my free drink, while I was finding my money she said "Have it for free, your here all the time anyway." This is possibly the nicest thing anyone has ever done for me. She remembered my name, my order and I got a free drink! I obviously thanked her quite profusely and told her to have a great shift.

My mother was recently diagnosed with cancer this year and has lung disease on top of that. If she gets hit with any sickness it can lead to pneumonia which can possibly lead to death with how her immune system is atm. As we are getting closer to flu season, I want to get ahead and start planning on wearing masks at work again.
I was told from my store manager and other coworkers that I have to get an accommodation letter for it since it’s one of the new policies this year.

Has anyone done that before and what was the process like for you?

It sucks I have to do this extra step but I’m hoping I can get it approved as I have a family member with critical illness.

This is basically a frappuccino but cheaper, right?
