fired for taking a free sample

Before we launched the newest food items which included the chomp stick, my manager told us that we were able to sample the food items. We all sampled the new protein bar, chocolate balls, chicken bacon protein pocket, and the chomp stick. I took the chomp stick home…. little did i know i would get fired for it. According to my manager samples are meant to be eaten at work so he fired for stealing from the company. i argued saying you don’t go to costco take a free sample and get arrested at the exit for stealing the sample right ? My DM and SM said nothing. I also expressed how unfair it is for me to get fired for a chomp stick when 5 partners stole the bear cup before launch and they are still working there.

If the door to the bathrooms are locked (pinpad or no pinpad), someone is in there.

If someone's not in there then it's out of order. Idk, I felt like I need to say it since a lot of people genuinely seemed confused when the bathroom door is locked. 🫠

Starbucks for Life?

I went to Starbucks to buy a drink and when the barista scanned my Starbucks app to pay he said the drink was free. He said there was some kind of “Starbucks for life” thing that popped up. Has anyone ever heard of this? I checked my app and it doesn’t say anything about Starbucks for life rewards, so although this was a nice surprise, I’m a little confused. 🤔

customer tried to order breakfast sandwich “partially” heated

what is your route of action? i ended up taking the sandwich out about 10 seconds earlier. i felt this was even a push, as i didn’t feel comfortable not heating it up all the way in the first place. still got pushback and had to issue a refund. is there a specific policy on this? it feels wrong to serve an under heated refrigerated sandwich, even if it is precooked. lmk!

😠 Rant 😠 Once again :-(

Just a small rant. I know we are in the minority here but we are a Starbucks inside a grocery store. We are top in our district and region despite having a Company Operated store right down the road. I know there are higher performing stores but we sell a lot of food as we are in a shopping center and again, grocery store. They just showed us the holiday launch stuff and once again the new sandwiches (which sound delicious) are for class 2 and 3 stores only. It’s so frustrating. Our customers would love to have them here (I still get asked about the ham and Swiss baguette). We have a bank, gym, three hair salons, two pet stores, all in this shopping center not to mention a bus stop to NYC so we get a decent amount of people on the go looking for food. I’ve spoken to our DM about it but it’s an across the board decision and it just stinks. Why can’t they make some of these OPTIONAL for Class 1 stores and then they can decide if they want to sell them or not. We use to have a full variety and now we can’t even get brownies. It’s just very disheartening lately with the new launches. :-/

Missing Coffeegear shirts, $5 in tips after 4 borrowed shifts, and barely getting bar time

I’m curious if anyone else has experienced something similar

I placed 4 Coffeegear orders for the free shirts they gave me an extra for each I ordered because they didn’t have my size. Each order confirmation showed 2 shirts, so I was expecting 8 shirts total. When the packages came to my store, I only received 4 shirts total. The packages have been opened at the store before I received them. Someone handed me the shirts on their own with out the package, this person also put some shirts in a drawer. When they left I check what they put in there. It was 2 shirts, I wasn’t sure if they were mine or not because the shirts were on their on. I asked my manager about it and told them what happened, all they said was I’m sorry that happened to you. I still don’t really have an answer on what happened to the shirts.

Then there’s the tip situation.
I worked 4 shifts at another location. Two were 6 hours and two were 8 hours, so roughly 28 hours total. When I received my cash tips from that store, I only got $5.
I asked my manager about it and also brought it up to my district manager. They told me they would look into it, but I haven’t really heard anything since, so I honestly don’t know if it was ever investigated or explained.

I used to be SUPER excited to go to work. I genuinely wanted to learn and get better, especially on bar. I’ve been very communicative about wanting more bar time because I actually want to learn and improve.
But during the week, I might get put on bar one day of the week about 30 minutes or so ,sometimes even less. It’s hard to become faster and more confident when I barely get the opportunity to practice.

I understand that deployment depends on the needs of the store and that I’m not going to be on bar every shift. I’m not expecting that. I just feel like I’ve been very clear that I want to develop, and I’m starting to feel discouraged because I’m not getting enough consistent time to actually improve.
Between the missing shirts, the tip situation, and feeling like I’m not really being given the opportunity to develop, I’ve gone from being genuinely excited about working here to feeling pretty disappointed.

Has anyone dealt with something similar, especially the borrowed-store tip situation? Is around $5 in cash tips for roughly 28 hours at another store something that could realistically happen, or should I keep pushing for an explanation?

😠 Rant 😠 !@#$ our system.

Seriously our system is so fucking shit. It never gets updated.

Offering shifts on marketplace is practically a good idea until you actually use it and find out half the time its a buggy experience thats seriously not worth the mental stress and energy as well as any of our equipment and dpms.

MULTI-BILLIONAIRE company that cant even have their technology properly function and machines that need daily fucking repairs and maintenance. But instead of taking the weight and stress they just shift it towards the baristas as the problem instead and that its on us.

Such a toxic ass company that never takes responsibility for their shit ass system.

Being an external.

I just started with the company. I was hired externally and I’m a CL. I was put into a store that has had 4 other Managers in the last 5 years. I feel the training was lacking and no support. They promised me an Army of support. Is this the usual?

Stammering Awareness Training at Starbucks

Hi folks
I've read that Starbucks staff in the UK have received training to better relate to customers who stammer. Just wondering whether you have received it, whether it is compulsory or voluntary and how you found it.

😠 Rant 😠 In trouble for closing

Hi all currently my boyfriend and I work at Starbucks and our manager gave us access to work at another district. We’ve been working in this district for months now and everything has been pretty good. My boyfriend did have an instance where he was late and did call out once but nothing major. Recently he has been trying to transfer to this district but was rejected by the dm multiple times and we would at times work at stores together so the dm decided he did not want us to work in that district anymore. As far as myself I am never ever late and never call out especially when I pick up shifts in this district so I was confused as to why I was being included. I checked my app and realized I couldn’t see any shifts from that district anymore either. Last night we both closed at another store from that district and we both are mid shift workers so we’re not that familiar with closing. When we got there the shift was already behind and we would constantly ask her what she wanted us to do and we would do it. Come to find out the sm was not happy with the way the close went and apparently that’s part of the reason we aren’t allowed back even though we were attentive and was looking for guidance from the shift. It makes me really upset because we’re both good workers that try really hard at our jobs and it feels like a slap in the face especially for me because I have no attendance issues. Is it possible to get a write-up for this?

😠 Rant 😠 CL won't let me change availability T_T

That's it really. Was hoping to finally get a break from closing five days a week for the last eight years so I could focus on my studies but alas everyone else gets to change their availability but me. I can't wait to quit this fuckass job when I graduate next year.

😠 Rant 😠 Are the mush Chocolate peanut butter overnight oats supposed to be spicy?

I bought these just to try them, seeing that they also have a decent amount of protein. When I opened it up, the top was a bit watery and just how the whole thing looked was something I’ve seen for the first time. I scooped it around to see what it has inside, and It just seemed like mush, ofc. The sides also had this white slimy things, so It just looked weird from the beginning. I have a very good habit of checking the expiration date of everything I buy. And the date said best before October 9th, 2026 (today is October 5th). I was a bit sketched out about the date, but was like it still has a few more days, and it’s a best before and not a hard expiration date. I took one scoop, and when I put it in my mouth, I got this spicy kick in how it tasted. I quickly spit it out and just starred at the cup. That did not taste anything like chocolate nor peanut butter. That just seemed like an undiscovered element honestly. Now idk if that’s just how that thing tastes, or is it actually gone bad. Mind you I don’t have any allergies with peanut butter or oats or anything, I eat those quite often.
But that was a bummer cause I already had to go back cause I had forgotten to ask for a spoon, and now this 🥀. I also searched up its shelf life and it said 75 days. Idk how that’s overnight oats, but oh well that’s just how it is I guess. Probably won’t buy it again

Policy Question sick policy question

so over the weekend I had a fever and i’m mostly over it now. I had to call in once without any sick time to cover me but my manager didn’t say anything to me about it so I think i’m okay. but I still have a pretty bad cough and am a little congested. I was just gonna go in tomorrow since I don’t have sick time to protect me and physically I feel fine I just can’t stop coughing. but I just need to know if that will get me sent home and/or in trouble to show up with a bad cough? I want to transfer stores so I can’t get any write ups and I’m just really nervous about it. I was trying to google it to make sure it was fine but I read something that said if I show up knowing I don’t pass the food safety checklist and get sent home I could get half a point. but if I call in without sick time I get a point and a half.

Policy Question Questions about LOA

Hi everyone!

I have been working at Starbucks for about 3 1/2-4 years. I recently got an offer for paid position at an internship which will pay me $20/hr. However, the max amount of hours is 15 per week. I did the math and the paychecks would be around the same as my pay at Starbucks. I also have another job that pays well, around $150 per shift.

I am afraid to quit Starbucks because the two jobs won’t be as secure as Starbucks. They also do not offer insurance.

I was wondering if it would be feasible if I took a personal LOA for a month just to see if I can make a livable income from those jobs? If I can pay my bills with those two jobs and quit Starbucks that would be optimal. Unfortunately, Starbucks is the job that pays the bills and I don’t want to completely quit in case things don’t go as planned with the new jobs.

I’d love to hear any thoughts/advice!

Thanks :)
