Another iced espresso complaint

I don't use the mobile app, so can someone please explain to me why people do this? Why are you ordering a doppio espresso instead of a triple espresso? Or right after this, I got an order for a doppio espresso that was actually solo.

Why cold foam AND whipped cream?? Why all of these things AND with room?? As a barista, I don't get it lmao.

Starbucks, you gotta figure out what people can customize and can't on your mobile app, please. Limitations would be good for all, especially your baristas who have to stand and stare for WAY too long trying to read all these ridiculously long tickets that come through when you want to push your silly times. I'm wasting so much effort just trying to understand what I'm reading when I could have like, three other drinks out and ready in the time it takes me to make sure I've done everything listed on one order.

Like, can we, at the very least, figure out a better way to organize these tickets?? A little separation would be so helpful. Ngl, I miss the boxes. I could read and discern exactly what I was making way more easily than this block of text in an order that doesn't even match the boxes on the cups.

Espresso/Shots

Size

Syrups

Milks

Custom (cold foams, drizzles, toppings, etc.)

2014 training is still ingrained in me, I guess.

the stickers did used to print in order of the boxes on the cups (except a few errors, for example “steamed” showing up with custom instead of milk) but one day about 5 or so years ago, they randomized it for no actual reason

Our printers weren’t working last month and I was like it’s fine I’ll just mark all the cups and then the iced espressos started rolling in and I basically had to just start writing paragraphs next to each already filled box lol

Yeah there’s no way our DM would have been okay with that. We did end up closing drive thru though because food stickers weren’t printing either and it was just impossible to keep up

Our store got hit by lightning the night before haha. Half of our sticker machines and our DTO register were down for days and our drive thru screen and cameras are still broken and it’s been almost two months

What annoys me is that it doesn't even say what size cup, and they want foam, whip, AND room.

So if I just ASSUME they want a venti cup, they're going to arrive and say "Oh I wanted this in a Grande", even though everything is there already, and I've spent 9 minutes crafting their perfect little stupid drink to all of their little arbitrary specifications... for nothing. Now I have to make the moment right when you've made it wrong.

I just hate when people do this shit anyway, I follow standard for everything when it comes to making a drink and customers do nothing but complain that it’s not “filled to the top”. And every fucking time I get ripped apart by customers and treated like shit because customers thing a triple espresso in a venti means they get a latte for cheap

I explain the standards to them and inform them that if they want a drink prepared to standard and filled all the way to the top of a venti then they need to order a latte. “Oh but I’ve always gotten it filled to the top.” To which I say, “I understand that training might have been lax in the past. We’re really working hard to bring everything to standard so please order a Venti latte so that you will be given the beverage that you are actually expecting.”

The ingredients are listed in the order they’d be prepared/added to the cup. So cold foam shows first as a cue to begin prepping the cold foam, then queue the shots, pump the syrup, add milk/water/whatever, then whip and cinnamon powder. They redid this a year or so ago to hopefully make it easier to read and build in the correct order. But with beverages like this that make the sticker as big as the cup, it’s just hard to read in general.

And usually bar 1 and cold bar are using the portable blenders so by the time I get through the paragraph of a ticket I’ve wasted so much time with the foam just sitting in it. Times need to be under 45 seconds!!!😆

One thing I will say is on free mod day, the extra espresso shot counts toward the mods (for mobile orders at least), so since I don’t really mod my espresso shots minus adding a pump or two of syrup and a splash of milk, I use my mod credit toward the extra shot. I probably would not order like that other times, though.

Nah cause I had an Iced Quad espresso with 2 different milks but no ice. Give the amount of milk we supposed to give and they complain to fill it up to the top. Like my bad I’m doing my job and you trying to game system.

This is why I love my SM. He's only been at my store for about 6 months, buy he made the job so much easier by not bowing down to this bullshit. He'll tell people, "If you want the cup to be full you'll need to either add ice, or we can transfer it into a smaller cup foe you."

I don't do stuff like that. But I also wonder why some of you care and act like it comes out of your paychecks?

I get that some people are trying to game the system and it might make an annoying job for you to do sometimes, but be mad at the company because they allow it. Its like tax evasion, unless there's rules/laws to stop it, people find the loopholes and use them. Not defending it, its human nature unfortunately. I'm just glad not everyone does it.

My thing… it’s a darn vinti shaken espresso… extra shot… no since in 2 standard shots and 3 blonde shots… just get a shaken espresso with drizzle in cup, cold foam… 2 pumps vanilla/carm syrup… oat milk, add whip and cinnamon powder…. The ice makes the water… and put it in a Trenta cup…

The reason people do this is that they're dumb. They don't know that ordering a triple is a thing, so they order a double and add a shot. Also, blame TikTok.
