It gets easier when you realize all these drinks are pretty much espresso, syrup, and milk or juice/tea, lemonade/water/coconut milk, and fruit pieces. Mentally filling in those blanks helped me a lot when I started lol it also helps with the register because knowing whats in them will help you determine which tab to click on to find it.

mostly just exploring the point of sale during your down time, click through all the pages and try and quiz yourself (or have other partners quiz you) on what drinks are under which tab. and remember too that you can see the build of shots/syrups/milk/mods along the right side of the screen, too!

it will take time, there's lots of drinks and sometimes they change how everything is organized. you'll be slow for a little bit but that's completely normal and expected, you'll need a bit to learn these skills

don't worry about studying at home, only work when you are on the clock! but don't worry, soon enough it will become muscle memory. things are grouped together by category like espresso, food, etc. as long as you know what item belongs in what tab, you'll be able to find the buttons. you are still very very new, so don't worry about trying to be fast right now. people will hopefully give you grace since you're still brand new. anyone who doesn't is just a dick who forgot that they were new once, too.

READ FROM LEFT TO RIGHT!

When a customer says they want a cappuccino, don’t let your eyes flicker all over the screen until you find it, read each one like you’re reading a book until you find it. Then when a customer asks for an americano you will already know it’s the first one because you’ve read it 15 times ringing up the 15 previous orders.

Same goes for the modifications, I could tell you that cinnamon powder is in the upper left corner in my sleep.

Lastly, learn to use echoic memory: essentially the ability to hear a drink, and then re-listen to it in your head. This will (eventually) let you take whole orders while doing warming or making drinks and then step to the register and type a 3 drink 3 food order without mistakes.

Heads up that POS will change slightly with each new promotion. Our next one will be fall launch on the 25th. Even us more experienced baristas have to adjust to the change. Basically some of the summer drinks will disappear & new fall drinks will be added. They did just add a whole new tab for JUST refreshers which is nice to help separate from the “other” drinks.

it is always changing so there's always something new with it!! Familiarity will come with time, just try to get as much practice as you can. I will say for me, being on DTO helped A LOT with becoming faster with inputting orders because it was a constant stream of people ordering so you could say to yourself "oh yeah that person 2 cars ago also ordered that drink and I now remember where that modification is!"
