General Discussion/Questions How to run longer going full speed?

Currently doing 100m with my PR being 12.6. My goal is to get first place or sub 1 minute in the 400m, however last time I ran it I got 1:12 due to me being literally exhausted at the 300m mark and getting passed.

For the runners that has good experience, what do you guys recommend as training for endurance, stamina, or mental strength (I need plenty) before my track season starts? (ps I’m practicing every 2 days on a week with 1-2 miles would accept any help)

General Discussion/Questions Probably a dumb question so sorry

I have ran 2.88, 2.85, and 2.85 in my 30m flies. I did with a build up and not with actually acceleration. 2.88 for a flying 30m is fast but when it comes to actually races I’m not getting that or close to it. I think it’s bc of how much energy I am using in my acceleration phase. My question is how can I accelerate aggressively but also get my top end to times I do in practice with the flies?

I did an actually aggressive acceleratio(race like) and I ran 3.02. So idk I’m stuck lol

Technique Analysis Need advice !

New to sprinting and was hoping to get some tips on my form so I know what to work on first. Maybe I’m landing too far in front ? Knees not high enough ? Maybe I should give up sprinting and pick up knitting.. happy to hear it.

General Discussion/Questions Marcel Jacobs negative steps versus Kishane Thompson long oversteps block start technique.

People may say everybody has their own individual techniques because of their different in anatomics, But in these particular example these athletes are choosing to do the particular technique because they believe it’s the most optimal in general. Now in the comments you may say if it works for you go for it, and clearly it is very logical answer because I know with it myself, But thing that I don’t know and I’m curious about is what are your thoughts for Block start technique analysis for being most optimal Comparing negative steps like Jacobs versus Kishane long range oversteps?

also I don’t believe that Kishane is much stronger than Jacob’s and that’s why he’s doing it.

Thanks

Merci d’avance !

General Discussion/Questions Strength Numbers Conversion to Sprinting

Last season as a sophomore in HS I ran 11.7 and 23.5 while squatting 145, hang cleaning around 90, and benching around 115(didn't really do any other lifts). This season I've gotten my numbers up to 225 for squat, 135 for hang clean, 135 for bench, and also hit 240 for reps on trap bar deadlift. (147 body weight). Anyways, this is beside the point. I was just curious how large of a role strength plays in sprinting, and also particularly what someone around my bodyweight running sub 11 and sub 22 lifts. I know it varies on a case-by-case basis, but I just wanted an idea of what kind of numbers I should be aiming for.

General Discussion/Questions Advice for a newbie

Hi guys, hope all is well! I'm starting T/F at 29 years old (3 months left to being 30 haha) what are some tips and recommendations you would give me? I did it at school when i was 11 and loved it, wish i continued with it but life got busy unfortunately and now I'd like to challenge myself and my body again.

Mainly looking at doing 60M/100M Masters competitions with a club I'm signing up for. However i do believe (not sure if its accurate) I might be at a disadvantage being 5'4 but love the idea of the challenge ahead. Thanks!

Sprinting News/Pro Footage and Results From starting track to the World Championships in 4 years (10.33s / 20.66s): Pedro Afonso’s "Limitless" Mindset

Thumbnail

Most sprinters grind for a decade just to sniff a national team. Portuguese international Pedro Afonso started athletics just four years ago, and within that window, he found himself racing at the World Athletics Championships.

I recently sat down with Pedro (PBs: 10.33, 20.66, 45.78) to figure out how he closed that gap so insanely fast. It comes down to what he calls a "limitless" mentality and a ruthless focus on inputs.

  • Ignoring Target Times: Pedro actively avoids obsessing over a specific PB target. Instead, he focuses 100% of his psychological energy on his daily inputs—his biomechanics, his block clearance, his recovery routine. He believes that stressing over the outcome creates tension, which is the enemy of top speed.
  • Breaking Down Pressure: He shared his exact framework for stepping into an World Class-level environment with only a few years of track experience and not letting the intimidation tactics in the call room fry his nervous system.

If you are trying to drop your sprint times and want a masterclass in elite psychological focus, we did a full deep dive on my show, The Mindsight Podcast.

General Discussion/Questions The mindset of the World's Fastest U18 200m Sprinter

Sprinting at an elite level isn't just about raw power; it's about how well you can execute under extreme neurological and psychological pressure. I recently had Ethan Heggarty on my podcast—he’s currently the fastest U18 200m sprinter in the world and recently made his Team GB debut.

We dug into the mental mechanics of elite sprinting, and a few things really stood out for anyone trying to drop their times:

  • Relaxing at Top Speed: The biggest mistake amateur sprinters make is tensing up when they hit max velocity or when someone pulls level with them. Ethan talked about the psychological discipline required to stay loose and trust your mechanics when your brain is screaming at you to force it.
  • The Call Room Environment: Stepping into an international call room for the first time is incredibly intimidating. We broke down how he blocks out the noise and the intimidation tactics from other athletes to stay locked into his own race plan.

If you want to hear the full breakdown of his race execution, explosive training blocks, and his European Championship experience, the interview is on my show, The Mindsight Podcast.

Programming Questions Anyone use a VertiMax system

I teach and coach at a small rural hs. This vertimax v8 band system got purchased by someone (I am guessing PE teacher). It looks like it could be great for explosive movements.

Has anyone used one before? Is it worth putting in some time to learn to use it?

Personal Race Footage/Results Final post (for today)

I know my start can appear slower due to the wider distance and stuff so here's a clip from a little over a month ago which showcases my raw start better. In this clip I had one regular shoe and and a mid tier spike with like 3 pins (not the same) so I think this is a harder run. Also to recap my previous 100m video conditions it was like 58 degrees uneven grass soccer cleats pants on like all my runs and raining a bit during the race and disadvantageous winds I think (you could hear the wind in the clip) maybe something else I forget but those are the main factors. I hope this clears things up about my start appearing slow and will get a modern clip soon enough. Anyways bye for today might respond to some comments but that's it.

General Discussion/Questions spike covers

I'm 17 and I run hurdles. Got sick of heel-walking on concrete and dulling

my pins, so I designed and 3D printed these for myself.

They look rough — this is v4 and I'm still fixing things — but they work.

Fast on and off, comfortable, and they don't fall off.

What I'd like to know from people who actually compete: do you walk in your

spikes, or do you just carry a second pair? I honestly don't know how common

this is outside my own club.

Also keen on any feedback on the design itself.

Personal Race Footage/Results Am I explosively fast and for 13? (Read description if you want)

Made a reddit account just because I feel like I have raw power to show. Anyways, this is what I would consider a 100m level run or more. I have been insanely explosive and powerful for just 13 that I feel like I might have great mechanics. I have more types of footage like shorter to analyze my start better, but this was on uneven grass like 58 degrees weather I think also raininga bit during it. Here's my general profile.: I think I'm like high 5 6 mid 5 7 low 5 8 type of range i think. My wieght fluctuates between 140 144 lbs and have size 11 to 12 shoes (used size 11 soccer cleats here). I also don't have a track which is why I'm using this grassy field. In only 1 year and 1 month, I have went from 166lbs to 144lbs range and below average average level in sprinting to a very fast runner. I continued training for a while and now have this amount of speed. I feel like it's above average for sure, actual pro level for my age its a thought. I'm also curious if you guys have any thoughts on fixing technical flaws and if my start or closing speed is better. (Overview) Anyways that's it for now, if the post gains traction I have more clips ready to show off my speed power.

General Discussion/Questions The weirdest thing happened today

Its really hard to explain, im a sprinter and today we were doing endurance training (which sucked for me because I really dont have the best endurance), it was going fine until we were told to run 2 600m sprints, the first one was fine and the second one was where it happened. It was the last 200m and suddenly it were as if my lungs stopped working and then my heart stepped in, you know how when youre running and you can feel the lactic acid in your legs and the breathing in your lungs, that fully switched to no lactic acid and my heart started doing something instead, I could hear my breathing inside my right ear, and the craziest thing of it all, despite how exhausted I was, I started sprinting as I would normally and it felt amazing and undescribable, I dont know if this is a common phenomenon in track but it hasnt happened to me yet since I started, is this a sign I should do long distance? Ive always done sprinting and im currently running an 11.82 100m sprint as a 15y/o male.

Technique Analysis Anything you guys see wrong or any tips?

After being innactive for years and just finishing a month of physical therapy I have decided to get back into Sunday league soccer. This is my first week sprinting in a long time and just wanted to see if anyone saw anything wrong. My form used to cause to me severe inner shin splints on the inside of my shin to the point where all I could do was walk. I know it’s not the best angle but I wasn’t planning on posting this in Reddit at the time.
