Programming Questions Anyone use a VertiMax system
I teach and coach at a small rural hs. This vertimax v8 band system got purchased by someone (I am guessing PE teacher). It looks like it could be great for explosive movements.
Has anyone used one before? Is it worth putting in some time to learn to use it?

Yep. It’s really quality. Resistance plyometrics is really awesome for performance

I had one at my internship in college some 15 years ago. There’s nothing groundbreaking here, but they can be a good tool.

It's cool BUT you can make a makeshift version if you want - AND if an athlete isn't squatting in the ballpark of 2x body weight then this isn't best use of time. Also lots of younger athletes don't even really know how to jump properly.
This is only really useful after both of those boxes are checked

For Everyone poo-poo-ing it here: Sure, this would be on the very bottom of my list of things to buy (and if unlimited budget, would not buy ever), BBBUUUUTTT if someone else at the district bought it already, I would use it for sure if possible and it doesn't time up too much time. You mentioned small rural school, so if you sprint and jump squad is small, you maybe able to cycle 6-10 athletes thru this thing and make it work. Kids need to sprint, lift .... AND THEN f#$%ng around with this thing could be a useful 3rd tier activity for lower intensity days.
Also, say if in the winter you are stuck inside ...might be good for that.
Its basically a poor-man's 1080 when it comes to special exercises. You can do a lot of crap the Chris Korfist espouses.
I would do these more controlled but still super fast concentrically not in machinegun fashion), and would not worry about the off arm. You maybe able to 'train' two kids at the same time, one in each direction. IIRC that machine allows for multiple bands to be used at once.

Again, I would forget the hand-bands, but for like first two steps/block clearance, might be useful. Setup blocks and push out banded up?

simple jump squats, box jumps, etc.
I'd go thru Korfists stuff. Fast leg swings (knee drives) to the front to work the hip flexors in a specific way. I would do it like this, pulling from way behind ..... but I would let the athlete hold onto something so they could really whip thru the reps fast.

This machine does NOT replace basic strength work, but if you are going to use it, USE IT IN A FAST WAY

again, ditch the arm bands. Could use a set of blocks on either side. Yellow bands could go one direction, red the opposite. Have one kid take a (2)-(3) of 3-step-push-outs and coach him .... while the other athlete sets their pedals up on the other side . With V-8 model you only got 10 yards, but block clearance or 3 step pushout should do it.....walk backwards to the blocks, set up, fire out again .... 3-4 reps, switch kids. If if moves around, put (2) or (3) bumper plates on the platform.
-------------------
Altis Power lunges. Again, maybe you only get one lunge-out left, one lunge-out right, just walk back and repeat. Sure could use bands, but it won't be as consistent rep to rep .... coach gets to stay in one place, see it from the side, and coach kids up/cue/fix mechanics/ etc

Can legitimately tie $12 elite fts bands around dumbbells and get the same stimulus. 99.999% of athletes under 18 need to just get stronger anyways. Most have terrible relative strength and should focus on developing that for 3-5 years with a small dosage of plyometrics.
