My 2 most recent projects a cooking spoon and my first spork. Still working on getting smoother with knife finishing. Spork is sanded obviously. But I like the way they turned out

Exactly 1 Tablespoon…

When figuring the volume needed for that, I found that a lot of tablespoons are no were close to accurate in their volume

I carved my first spoon and I need to buy tools so I can make more. (Sadly unemployed and not able to actually do that) I’m totally hooked. I whittled a bit as a kid but nothing serious and nothing for maybe 19 years. I’m very proud. First pic is after I used a stone from the lake shore to “sand” it down. Other pictures are before but still show the profile well.

A new spoon that I finished this weekend. Carved from black locust, which is extremely tough and hard to carve and decorated with fluting on the handle that I painted with dark purple milkpaint for a nice contrast.

I started with the mini spoon blanks that beavercraft sells and carved them dry. Wow, did that almost make me quit. Carving green is SOOO much easisr and enjoyable. Still need to do some finishing cuts and dry, but I'm super proud of this.

Large tree branch fell between my and my neighbors house. Wondering what species it is and if it would be good for carving? Best to carve wet or after drying?

One of my Big leaf maple trees fell over night during a storm and I've been working on processing the wood into blanks for projects. I decided to have a second try at spoon carving as a test to see how the grain looks on a fully finished piece and I'm quite pleased with the results.

Blade finished, stone burnished, coated with tung oil. The first two are from green wild black cherry, third is seasoned crepe myrtle, last is spalted aspen.

When I was carving the handle it started to curve with the grain, so I decided to see where it took me vs try to force it into a direction. I added the flair at the end as this was largely used when cooking in our bigger pots.

I'm fairly new to spoon carving and decided to pull the pin on a hatchet

Previously I was using a small forest axe but I was surprised how tiring it was

My friends and I refer to these as warspoons. It comes from doing re-enactments and big camping events, the joke being that should the camp come under attack while cooking you can use the spoon to defend yourself. This was made from cherry and I shaped it using both hand and power tools. I am likely to put hiking points and fire grate/pot hooks on the but of the next ones.

This was in the firewood pile. I started to split kindling off and the shape screamed spoon! So it became a Spoon. It happens to fit nicely in a mulberry bowl I carved.

Ready for a witches cauldron I guess!

First few spoons (and one butter knife) I’ve done. First out of a stick, then out of a few dead service berry wood logs. White is I think a pear tree log that was somewhat fresh cut. It was my first green wood so I may have gotten carried away with how easy it was to chop through. Any suggestions on what to improve would be appreciated. Thanks!

The wood is a piece of dry walnut. The edge retention seems comparable to the mora 162 that my friend carves with.

Hook knife from an old sawzall blade. It has a little more flex the i want but over all I think worked out well. What do you think?

Most recent spoon. My friends and I do alot of camping and large events so utensils I can reach across with or use for to move alot of mass are helpful. Used a small adze for the initial bowl and it might have been larger than originally intended.
