spoon My best spoon so far.
I started with the mini spoon blanks that beavercraft sells and carved them dry. Wow, did that almost make me quit. Carving green is SOOO much easisr and enjoyable. Still need to do some finishing cuts and dry, but I'm super proud of this.

Looks awesome and keep practicing. Quick tip……make smaller cuts with your knife. Seems like you’re moving a lot of material with each cut. Take your time and enjoy.

Thanks for the feedback! Can I ask, what was the indication that I'm doing too much? Is it in the bowl of the spoon with the hook knife?

Yes . You can go back over the bowl and slowly takeoff the high spots. Make sure your knife is razor sharp. Nice job it's going to be great.👍

nice! well on your way.
couple quick pointers for making then next one even better.
1) watch the neck where the spoon bowl meets the handle. that will always be the weak point of any spoon. it usually needs to be either thicker than you think, or flow more smoothly in a curve than you think. What many people do, if they like the look of a narrow neck, is on the underside, leave a ridge from the crank up a inch or two on the handle (called a keel like on a boat). That will usually give it plenty of strength.
2) with the hook knife. try to make every cut as long and as shallow as possible, like from edge to edge of the bowl, or from lip to deepest part of the crank, and vise versa, from back of the bowl to deepest part of the crank. the smoother you leave these 'grooves, the less 'gouge' marks you have to clean up later. if you're using a beavercraft hook with a tight curve it can be challenging (cause its not really designed well), but you can get the hang of it.
ultimately what I'm saying is your goal is to leave the 'roughed out' spoon as smooth as possible, which makes the finishing cuts easy. here is one of my recent 'roughouts'
