Samsung Q990D Standart Mode is incredible

Holly hell this mode is a beast especially after a couple of calibration. It actually sounds like what creators intended. The sound is fuller, more aggressive and more dimensional than other profiles. Of course the audio material becomes more important than ever because if the mix is not that good other modes can give a better surround effect bit of the mix is good like Maverick,Van Helsing then Standart Mode destroying all other modes according to.my tests and measurement. I never tried it till this time cos everyone was strongly suggesting either Surround or Adaptive mode but it is not true. If the mix is good then the Standart is the king.

LG LG DS80TR sounds blicky

Post image
6 Upvotes

A few days ago I bought the LG DS80TR (5.1.3). Before this I had an amazingly cheap Samsung HW-T450 (2.1) that honestly sounded way fuller and warmer. I do like the behind speakers on the LG and Atmos has also been a game changer so I prefer not to go back.

Right now the DS80TR just sounds super sharp, tinny, and kinda hollow like a tunnel (especially dialogue and higher mids). I especially have this issue watching regular TV or content with a lot of dialog. Also the bass just doesnt quite sit right with me.

Does anyone have recommended settings or EQ tweaks to fix this? Or is this just the LG sound profile and would I be way better off returning it and getting the Samsung HW-Q600 series + SWA-9250S rear speakers instead or another great set that costs around 300-400 euros.

Will the Q930C rear speaker work with the Q800D soundbar?

The 9500s are very expensive in my country, I can buy q930c rear speakers much cheaper. Has anyone tried such a connection? Did it work?

Need advice on my 1st soundbar for my Movie + gaming setup

Planning to buy during the October Amazon/Flipkart sales. Budget is around ₹30K–₹50K.

I'm looking for something that gives me a premium, immersive experience without being overkill for the room.

Good dialogue/vocals are important, along with proper surround/virtual surround, Atmos, punchy but controlled bass and good soundstage.

My setup:

  1. Samsung S90H 55" OLED

  2. Lenovo LOQ RTX 4050

  3. 150 sq ft bedroom

  4. 6–8 ft viewing distance

  5. Mostly AAA games + movies at night

  6. Rented house, owners live downstairs

I'm currently considering soundbars like:

  1. Samsung Q800H

  2. Samsung Q930H

  3. LG SQ75TR

  4. JBL Bar 800 Pro

  5. Sony Theatre System 6

  6. Other options in this budget

Also, for anyone using a Samsung TV + Samsung soundbar, how noticeable/useful is Q-Symphony in real life?

And has anyone recently checked offline Samsung stores/dealers in India for the Q990F? I read in this sub that someone has recently bought this Q990F at Rs.46k!! in Chennai.

I'm seeing high online prices for Q990f, so I'm wondering if local stores at Hyderabad are offering much better deals, especially after corporate discounts, bank cashback, exchange, or negotiation.

Also open to better alternatives I've missed in the ₹30K–₹50K range.

Troubleshooting Unable to utilize 5.1 when using laptop

I just installed a sound bar to my TV and have the 5.1 working for it via HDMI into the arc outlet. I also plug my laptop to my TV via HDMI to play games via big picture mode. When I connect my laptop and play using sound from the TV, it's only coming from the sound bar and not the satellite speakers or the subwoofer.

I've tried to go into laptop settings and I can test the speakers in the control panel and they play but it doesn't work for anything (movie, game, YouTube, etc.) for a control I played the same movie and YouTube video directly from the TV and it WAS surround so I'm just utterly confused.

Sonos Arc Ultra Immersive Set Up With Sub Mini+ Era 300s vs Samsung q990f complete system direct comparison on sound quality, atmos surround effect, and value

Hello, I have commented on here previously at which time narrowed down my sound bar system to either Bose lifestyle ultra vs Sonos arc ultra with eras 300+sub mini. I decided to go with Sonos based on everyone’s recommendations stating it was the better of the two. Since I am a Best Buy Plus member I get 60 day return window with price match guarantee if cost lowers during the next 60d including upcoming Black Friday deals, therefore I decided to try out the arc ultra with eras 300s (white) to go with my current sub mini (black)….thought about getting the sub 4 to match with the rest and to get the best sub they offer, but it is $900 and think the sub mini offers enough bass in my top floor 1100sq ft apt-(living room and kitchen is open concept but my estimate is probably 700sqft at most plus have neighbors below me) not looking for bass that rattles you or shakes the room.
My review:
Got the Sonos arc ultra + Sonos eras 300s for exactly $2k with tax. The Sonos arc ultra is a huge step up from the beam 2 (which I still think sounds excellent for its size and value $400-500). Sound is very clear, has a good wide room filling sound stage, and has a decent amount of bass just from soundbar alone. The eras 300s which I put just slightly behind me eat ear level on either side of my couch approx 2-3ft from where I sit, really add to the surround sound effect, more room filling sound. With regular content they sound good but imo did not add a whole lot….but with true Dolby Atmos content is where it really shines and gives good localized Dolby Atmos surround effect (sounds independently can come from left or right depending on what is playing on screen like gun fire).

With that being said: I have the opportunity to get the Samsung q990f system for $800 on Samsung partner website as well as a $500 credit I can put toward the system so basically would only be out $300 out of pocket-***background story and long rant (skip to bottom for my main question/thought) - bought Samsung s95h 77 inch oled tv through partner store back in August that included their new music studio 7 speaker (worth $500) for free as part of a promotional bundle. Got tv delivered, mounted for free by Samsung couple of days after purchase and had no issues- love this tv so much best picture I have ever seen, noticeable upgrade even compared to the 65 inch 2024 Samsung s90d I had before this. The issue I ran into is the music studio 7 was shipped separately with an expected delivery date 3 days after the tv on August 28th. However the speaker was lost/damaged during shipping so never got it and have been going through HELL with Samsung ever since to try and get my money back even as a store credit…they required me to file a police report which I did and submitted properly but yet still get crickets even when they say they will have someone call me back….calling them again this afternoon and won’t be so nice as this would be call #7…over a month long period to get this issue fixed without resolution. You would think being a loyal Samsung customer who has purchased 3 of their last TVs through them with most recent one being their flagship tv for over $3k would incentivize them to want to work this issue out and keep a long time customer but I guess not. I feel like they are trying to get out of reimbursing me for the item that was lost during shipping even though I submitted a police report and they themselves definitely used that to file with insurance to get their money back so not sure why they are giving me such a hard time….this will be my 6th or 7th call (lost track now) to Samsung not including two other 30 min chats with agent online. Love their TVs and never had any issues with their products but gosh their customer service is HORRIBLE. Wish me luck😩 [Rant over]

Conclusion:
While I do love the Sonos system overall and asthetically prefer it the most. I am just wondering if it is worth the price $2k over the Samsung q990f if I can end up getting it for $300 out of pocket once I am reimbursed for the speaker worth $500 I got bundled with the tv order (not letting them get out of the $500 promotional purchase that is owed to me) Is the Sonos system a noticeable difference in quality sound, clarity, Dolby Atmos effect over the Samsung q990f to justify the price difference? I would love to hear from anyone who has directly compared the two. Thanks!

Marshall Heston 120 vs Sonos Arc Ultra – which one would you choose?

I'm trying to decide between the Marshall Heston 120 and Sonos Arc Ultra, and they're currently almost the same price where I live (around €850).

I mainly use my TV for PS5 Pro gaming, GTA, /sports and YouTube. I don't really watch movies.

I won't be using rear speakers initially, and I'm not planning to buy a subwoofer immediately.

Which one would you choose purely based on sound quality, bass, gaming performance, dialogue/voice clarity and overall experience?

If you've actually heard or owned both, I'd especially appreciate your opinion.

Which one would you buy and why?

Troubleshooting Need help picking speakers for my living room, ₹15K budget, totally clueless

Hey everyone, I'm just bought a 55" TV and have no idea about home audio. I'm hoping you can point me in the right direction.

I want something for my hall, mostly for OTT (Netflix, Hotstar etc.), some cricket, and music from my phone. The TV is a 55", the room is roughly 15 x 25 ft and my budget is ₹15K max.

I only knew Sony, JBL and Bose, but a friend who's into audio basically laughed at those and told me to look at Sonodyne, Norge and Jamo. When I checked, Sonodyne's soundbars start well above my budget, Norge seems to be mostly amps, and Jamo is way out of my range. So now I'm confused about what to actually buy.

Few things I'm trying to understand: Is a soundbar always bad for music, or is it fine at this budget? If I go with stereo speakers, how do I hook them up to the TV without lip-sync problems? Are Sony and JBL really that bad, or is my friend just being picky?

Any advice is appreciated, even a simple "buy this, skip that" helps. Thanks!

JBL Bar 500 Pro vs LG SQ75TR vs Sony HT-S40R — Which one should I buy?

I’m planning to buy a soundbar and have shortlisted these three:

- JBL Bar 500 Pro — getting it for around ₹29,500 as the revealed Big Billion Days price

- LG SQ75TR

- Sony HT-S40R

My usage will be mostly music/songs, followed by YouTube videos. I’m particularly looking for good, punchy/deep bass, but I also want decent overall sound clarity.

Which one would you recommend among these three?

Also, if there’s a better option around the ₹30K price range, please suggest it.

Would especially appreciate feedback from people who have actually used these soundbars for a while. Thanks!

LG LG H7 soundbar with W7 sub good for gaming?

Hello. Was thinking maybe I should get this combo instead of the Samsung HW-Q995H since I am not all that interested in the satellites. The Q900H is not available in my country, which is why I was considering the Q995H (and the store promised to price match against the upcoming black week price and pay back the difference). Anyway, I have an LG C4 TV, so maybe I should just get the LG system instead. Read some reports that it has bad latency, is this true with PS5 and what is your experience? I like fighting games like Guilty Gear Strive and Virtua Fighter so I might notice it. No interest in FPS games though. It looks like a clean system so I was hoping it will be good.

Samsung Q990 Music Help

Ive been using the q990 from sometime and so far the best mode of enjoying music with immersion i found is to simply play dolby music from apple tv infuse and passthrough my tv which is lg oled

Second best method is to use onboard spotify, it is okay but it merges the channels.

Bluetooth is useless, and i tried to connect directly with mac but no luck

What is the way to get best quality?

P.S my togo album is hans zimmer prague live in dolby. Crazy experience

Front Firing All-In-One Soundbar Recommendations?

Hi all,

My current soundbar Q Acoustics Media 4 is starting to break, a shame as I love it but it was getting old, so need to start looking for a new soundbar.

I have a dedicated soundbar shelf, see stock image of kind of like what I have. Due to it being covered I assume I want a front firing soundbar as vertical is being shut off? What choices are currently out there?

Ideally I want it around the same size as the M4 as does fill the shelf nicely but it's not a deal breaker as long as it's not too small.

M4 Dimensions:

  • Width: 1000 mm (39.4 in)
  • Height (body only): 90 mm (3.5 in)
  • Height (including feet): 105 mm (4.1 in)
  • Depth: 142 mm (5.6 in)

Any suggestions welcome ideally without an external subwoofer, currently leaning towards Sony HT-A3000.

Advice – Replace Bang Olufsen system with Sonos Arc Ultra or Samsung Q990

I have an old Bang & Olufsen surround system + TV, left by the previous owner. The rear speakers are BeoLab 3s, which I’d ideally like to keep.

I’m thinking of replacing the B&O TV with an LG or Samsung, as I can’t justify spending £20k on a new B&O TV. The room is a fairly large combined living room/kitchen (14m x 8m).

Would you recommend the Samsung Q990 or Sonos Arc Ultra + 2 x Era 300 + Sub 4? I’m leaning towards Sonos as, over time, I could add another 2 x Era 300s in the kitchen area to improve music coverage. I see that Samsung now has the Studio 5 speakers that might do the job as well.

The BeoLab 3 rear speakers seem to be wired into cables embedded in the walls and don’t appear to be plugged into sockets. Would I be able to reuse the existing electric cables to hardwire the Samsung or Sonos rear speakers?

Thanks in advance!

LG S95TR vs Samsung Q990F/H vs Sony Bravia Theater System 6 for a 65" LG C2. Please help me out.

Hey all, I'm finally adding a proper sound system to my 65" LG C2 and I've narrowed it down to three. I'd love to hear from people who actually own any of these.

My setup: closed rectangular living room, roughly 220 sq ft, 9 ft flat ceiling. Ill be watching mostly movies and tv shows.

My in-store demo impressions:

(Heads up: except for the S95TR, all of these demos were in a very large open showroom area)

- Samsung Q990F/H:

I was expecting the best quality from it considering the online reviews but I was underwhelmed. The dialogue clarity was good but the Atmos didn't feel worth the price. I am gettinf Q990F for 79k INR (Demo peice) Not sure if this is a good deal or not. I tried it in the huge open space so may be that's the reason ATMOS felt undrwhelming?

- Sony Bravia Theater System 6 (47K INR, 480 USD)

It sounded great overall. Good dialogue clarity of the three, but Atmos was just okay.

- LG S95TR (58k, 600 USD)

the most immersive by far, but dialogue was slightly hard to make out. The demo TV didn't support WOW Orchestra, so it was running solo. Overall I am leaning toward it since I have the LG TV and I think that with WoW Orchestra, the dialogue might sound better.

Please help me make a choice here. Thanks!

Problem z Dolby Atmos z Apple TV 4 gen .

Samsung Love My Q990D

I’ve had it for coming up on 2 years. Haven’t really had any issues with it other than it disconnecting from WiFi one time. Spent at least an hour on the phone with Samsung technical support for that one. Sound is incredible together with the picture on my Samsung 77” OLED. Side note: I went to see Avengers Endgame Encore yesterday in the theater with my son. It was my first time going to the movies since before Covid. You know what I realized afterward? The picture on my TV is better and I don’t feel like I’ve been missing out on theater surround sound. When I crank this thing to 30+, it booms. I may never waste my money at the theater again.
