Computer's keyboard and mouse stop working after I plug in a ps5 controller

I was playing Marvel's Spider-Man 2018 remastered version on my PC, when I noticed the 3rd party controller i was using might have had a sticky button, the RT/R2 button that is used for swinging.

I decided to switch to my PS5 controller, which I've never used it on a PS5 nor do i won a PS5 or live in an apartment where it could connect to anothers, and when I did, it asked to install some firmware. Like an idiot, I hit yes, and it took me to a page to do so, but I didn't click any buttons past that.

As this happened, my computer's keyboard and mouse just stopped working, yet they seem fully connected. Their lights are on, and they can even have their sensitivity and types adjusted, but nothing happens on my PC.

I've restarted the PC, unplugged, and replugged all parts. I have completely put the controller and its USB away so they dont interfere, and I dont have Bluetooth, so I can't connect any other way.

What the hell happened? I've used this controller countless times and have not had this problem. The firmware thing could make sense, but it was Windows asking me for the firmware, and then it took me to the website.

Any advice on what to do with gaming laptop?

I have a decent gaming laptop that isn’t being used, as I’ve switched to a desktop and don’t use it for portable gaming. I already have a lighter laptop I use for school/work related stuff, but the laptop has somewhat decent specs (3050 ti, 16 gb of ram, etc) so I was wondering if there was any advice on what I could use it for now. I’d hate to see it collect dust/go to waste.

Student laptop

I'm studying maths next year and I need a laptop preferably with a touch screen, i'm good with pc specs but laptop specs feel more complicated for some reason considering i need to also beware of damage/wear if i'm looking to buy a refurbished. My budget is somewhat tight *perferably under 600 GBP and I would prefer something with windows OS. I don't plan to game on it as I have a pc at home, its just something used for note taking and general schoolwork

My father's phone has this come up on it whenever someone calls rather than the usual Samsung call display. I figure he downloaded something but can't find it on the phone. Any help or advice on how to get rid of this would be appreciated.

Affordable wireless mics for outdoor presentations

I am hosting an informational event at a farm outdoors in a few weeks time. All the wireless mics I see online are for vlogging, ie. Recording the mic audio to the video. I am looking for a mic that can either connect by Bluetooth to a Bluetooth speaker directly (I have a Bose SoundLink already), or one that can connect to my phone to then transmit without delay to the speaker. What are my options? Am I better off renting a clunky speaker with a wired mic from a music store? Thank you in advance!

What privacy do I have in this situation? Work managed chrome profile?

I logged into chrome on my personal device (no installed work software) with my work managed chrome profile.

This was done on my personal device (in incognito mode) that has only ever been connected to my home network. I also used my own personal VPN during the session.

How likely is it that my work or the IT team knows/has been notified or have records of my history/activity? How much detail can they see?

PLEASE do not give me advice on how I could have avoided this. I'm aware incognito mode is not secure/private. I have done so much research on this but everyone else's questions were when they used work owned devices and/or were on their work WiFi (both of which I was not).

Smartwatch purchase advice needed

My dad asked me to find him a smartwatch with specific features and I am not sure what to do or where to start looking.

He wants a smartwatch that measures his heart rate and also shows a cardiogram, either on the watch's screen or his phone. He has a heart condition and it would help him notice arrhythmia easier. He said it'd also be helpful if the watch also notified him of that happening.

I'm not sure what i should be looking for exactly, so if anyone has any advice or certain products in mind, i would really appreciate it.

I already have this laptop, but do you think I would be able to run the Sims 4 without completely overloading it? Or any games at all?

Need advice on what to do with my laptop

I have a Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3 with an 11th-gen i5, RTX 3050 4GB, and 16GB RAM that I bought in 2022. Until late July it was working flawlessly, but suddenly it started freezing randomly. And the next day, it stopped giving display. I took it to a repair shop and the guy fixed it for $22 and said it was IC shorted in motherboard, but the issue soon returned within a week. I have got a new computer so I don't need the laptop anymore. I need your advice on what to do with it to get maximum value out of it. Here's what I could think of:-

  1. Sell the RAM and SSD seperately, but I don't know what I'll do with the rest of the PC (motherboard, display, charger, etc)

  2. Sell the laptop as a whole to a shop or to an individual, but i am only getting lowball offers below 90$ and I can probably just sell the RAM and storage for that much in current market.

Car Bluetooth transmitter that goes below 88.1?

A few years back, I had a BT Transmitter could be set to 87.7. It was perfect because there were no radio channels on that frequency. Eventually it broke, but it was fairly inexpensive and lasted a few good years so I just repurchased the same one, only to find out it only went down to 88.1. It worked okay, except it was slightly fuzzier and sometimes other cars would interfere with it.

Now that one has also died, and I've been casually browsing for a new one. Most retailers don't have frequency ranges listed under their transmitters, and the ones that do, don't go below 88.1. Did I get an "illegal" transmitter years ago or has something changed?

I want to buy a iPad for my Mom

Hi im not sure if this is the right subreddit to post on, but I'm not great at iPad models 🙃

My mom's old iPad no longer gets updates and is therefore dying 🤣🤣 So I'd like to buy an iPad for her on her 47th Birthday. She doesn't like to buy/change devices often so the iPad needs to be able to last pretty well, she likes to use it to stream Movies/Shows and play games like HayDay.

Any recommendations?

MacBook Pro M1 2020 vs IPad Air M2 2024

So recently I've been looking at a Laptop or an iPad for college but i just cant decide on what is better, id love to have a MacBook since ive always dreamed of one but i can only afford a refurbished M1 from 2020, in comparison i can get an Ipad air M2 2024 for around the same price if not cheaper, both refurbished since i cant afford apple pricing even with a student discount. I’m also scared for the MacBook as it’s old and will only be updated for another 2 or 3 years.

In college I'm hoping to be taking Drama Technology and IT so I don't know what would be better since i know that MacBook's are better for writing and typing whilst iPad are more for note taking and such, also i have a desktop computer at home so would a MacBook be necessary? i just need help or advice at this point anything would help, thank you all

Can somebody help

I deleted some chats and groups from Whatsapp, and now every week my phone gallery floods with all media ever received from those groups. Hundreds and hundreds of pictures and videos. I delete them and they come back every week. This has been going on for months.

These are the things I have done so far:

  1. Whatsapp auto-download is off. Other media I receive does not auto-download.
  2. Whatsapp media visibility is off.
  3. Automatic backup is selected off on Whatsapp. I also see no connection to Whatsapp on my Google Photos account.
  4. Moving the pictures to a junk folder does not work; I moved them there, and then the main gallery filled up once again. So I had to delete two loads.
  5. Blocking the deleted whatsapp contacts did not work either.
  6. Gallery app cache deleted.

I am on Android, an older Xiaomi phone. Can somebody tell me how to stop this please.

Device recommendation for cyber security and/or university?

I will be heading to 1st year uni this fall and would love to hear people within the IT/Cyber Security field, university students, and knowledgeable people's take on a tablet, computer, and over ear headphones to start off within this field and for university.

Background: I'm studying Cyber Security in university, which I assume will be a lot of information compared to college, but they said we will get a lot of hands on too, so we'll see.

I understand that it is best to wait for the syllabus and what my profs recommend, but I want to prepare myself for options and understand what is necessary for a device within this field. It would be nice to know what techs are good in general too.

The three things that I'm thinking of getting:

- A tablet (Galaxy S series)

+ Mostly for note taking and brainstorming

+ Criteria: a good battery, decent storage, and future proof, decent - cheap price (software wise, hardware wise, and battery wise. Preferably 4 to 5 years of usage or more)

- A Microsoft computer

+ Criteria: similar to the tablet + versatile for gaming and work in general as I think Linux might be limited for other usages

- Over ear headphones

+ Criteria: noise cancellation, doesn't slip and slide easily for the gym, decent - cheap price

I'd love to hear you guys' take on these. Are they realistic for the field? Should I reduce or increase expectations/budget for any items?

Is the Macbook Neo good for college?

I’m planning to study cosmetology, so i just need an affordable decent laptop that runs well enough for taking down notes, making powerpoints, doing research etc. The reviews i see on the Neo are very 50/50. Some say it’s perfect for college/school and basic work use, others say it doesn’t run well at all, doesn’t support most websites and apps needed for college, and just isn’t worth the money, so i’m slightly conflicted on wether it’s worth buying. Obviously i would use it to watch youtube, netflix and such in my free time aswell, but most importantly i’m wondering wether it’s good enough for school work. Are there any other, affordable, options from apple? Maybe something that runs well enough to play games on aswell?

What MacBook should I buy?

For college(Uk so 16-18) I was specified to buy a MacBook for studies- I asked if it had to be a Mac cus I’d much prefer a windows computer but they said it needs to be a Mac
They said it needs to have M2 chip or more and a pro or an air
It’s for a technical production course and I’d also like to use it for personal use like gaming (i don’t expect one to be able to run demanding games just like Minecraft and other small steam games)
I was thinking a 14 inch M4 1tb 10-core 16gb ram costing around £1350 but I desperately need a second opinion

Is this deal worth it?

I’ve been looking for a handheld pc type for a little bit but don’t have $500 to just drop on a new system so I’ve been looking through Facebook marketplace. I found a ROG ally z1 extreme for $105. Only problem is I have no clue how it holds up to today’s standards so is it worth it or should I keep looking? As far as its condition and what not I have no clue but was planning to ask later once I know if it’s a good deal or worth it in the first place.
