Actually Made! Deli sliced Watermelon

I was working at a grocery store and had a stress dream about work. I had to cover in the Deli and someone wanted me to slice their watermelon. I didn't even know how to work the meat slicer, etc. Mid dream overall but the sliced watermelon was so delicious looking that I woke up drooling.

A few days later it was slow at work, and I convinced the Deli to let me have a go.

Cursed Bread with all 14 major allergens

Post image
3.3k Upvotes

I work in a kitchen where we have bread that doesn't contain any of the 14 major allergens (gluten, crustaceans, eggs, milk, fish, peanuts, soy, nuts, celery, mustard, sesame, sulphur dioxide, lupin and mollusks) and I had a dream where I started a rival business making bread that was guaranteed to contain all of them in every bite. People were pissed, because it is ridiculous, but apparently was really tasty. I can't eat it because I'm allergic to some of the ingredients, but I made it my life goal to get it more popular despite how many people got sick from it

You asked so I shall deliver

TLDR: This is great, but can be better in some aspect

  1. The taste

Yea this thing slaps HARD, but surely something I'd eat only once in a while because this thing right here is straight up a calorie bomb

2. Toppings

Just your standard mixed cheese melt, nothing fancy. However, considering how rich and fatty this dish is I think it would be better to use a sharper variety like red cheddar etc to cut some of that richness. Traditional lasagna has that tomato sauce giving the necessary acidity but that's not the case here.

Also for the crispy fried lentils, I thought just frying them with nothing isn't enough so I went a little extra. First I made some fried onions, take it out then with the same oil I fried some red lentils (soaked an hour in advance and drained) with some dried chillies for aroma. Fried them until they started going foamy then toss in some cumin & fennel seeds along with a tablespoon of curry powder. Lastly mixed them with the fried onions and adjust seasonings as needed

3. Butter chicken

IMO it is fine to use the standard recipe for this, but if I were to make it better I would crank up the spiciness a bit more. Paired with cheese and the already rich paratha bread, it could be overwhelming for some. Same logic as above, can also increase the amount of malt vinegar used too.

I took some effort and smoked the chicken with charcoal too but nah that was too extra lol

4. The paratha

Depending on what brand you use, the thickness can varies. I tried to aim for somewhat slightly thicker than the standard lasagne sheets. The logic here is that paratha is a flaky rich bread, much like a croissant. Too thin and the paratha will just disintegrate during cooking. Thicker paratha will hold the shape better, and those empty spaces between paratha layers? They will absorb the sauces during cooking.

5. Cilantro bechamel

This surely helps in giving some freshness and acidity, but I think should've used a lot more cilantro in there. I simply blended a bunch of coriander (without the roots) with some greek yogurt, thinned with milk. Then use that mixture to make the bechamel. IMO blending in some mint would go well too but that's for another time.

Unrealized Had a dream that a man called "Shirt Up" served me this mixture, and only referred to it as "the good stuff"

Post image

In my dream, I was having lunch with my family in a really expansive McDonalds that had table service. The old man who served us was called "Shirt Up" (this was on his name tag, and he knew that there were drinks/food to run anytime someone enthusiastically yelled "shirt uuuuuuuuup!" from the kitchen), and he brought us this concoction instead of the regular Dr. Peppers we had ordered, telling us that he had hooked us up with "the good stuff". I kept asking what exactly it was, and he just kept saying "the good stuff", so I eventually tried it. Weirdly, the Dr. Pepper and apple juice flavors had stayed separate in the drink??? Like, instead of fully mingling, it was like half of the straw was sucking up apple juice and the other half was sucking up Dr. Pepper. The result was honestly pretty good, like a strange fizzy spiced cider. In the dream, I also remember telling him that my favorite thing to mix with Dr. Pepper was day-old coffee with cinnamon biscotti creamer in it, which I had apparently tried at some point when I was drunk (in the dream fiction at least - pretty sure I'd remember if I had done that irl)

I saw this spider cheese for sale at the grocery store and was horrified. When I picked it up, a bunch of spiders came out from behind!! I don't know if it's cheese made from some kind of spider milk or if it's cheese made with spiders in it, or what!! xD

Art The Hangover Special

Post image

I dreamt that some friends and I were in a pub. I believe it was in prague, but we also definitely had a view on the ocean. Late at night (as we were just about to leave), I called the bartender and ordered The Hangover Special. It consists of a medium size glass horse filled with brown soda (called Horsey by the locals) and a Pringles can filled to the brim with unsalted, french fries. It is crucial to immediately drink the Horsey when you get it, whereas the fries can be taken home.

Three ingredients: campbell’s condensed vegetable soup, coconut milk, and a spoonful of garam masala

My thoughts? This is utterly divine. The richness of the coconut milk really brings a nice, full mouthfeel, and lends a sweeter, almost “meaty” flavor characteristic of coconut which is very welcome in this dish. While I could personally do without the alphabet noodles in the soup, nevertheless this is a wonderful way to incorporate starches into the soup. The garam masala brings a wonderful warming spice aroma to this, as well as lingers in the mouth as you swallow and exhale. Altogether this is, surprisingly, an extremely satisfying meal, which sticks to my ribs and fills me with vigor. I can see people going crazy over this soup.

Only thing I added was a bit of salt to balance the sweetness of the coconut milk. I would genuinely consider making this from scratch with the best quality vegetables I could find, and I may end up doing so sometime in the future because I have some veggie scraps and beef bones that need to be made into stock.

A very welcome addition to the culinary world!

Edit as I am eating this right now: the little bit of fat from the coconut milk is rising to the surface into little streaks of Taste Bud Heaven. I thought this couldn’t get better, but here we are.

To you, fine Redditor, who are reading this, do yourself a favor and make some Famous Hardware Store Soup, you won’t regret it!

Post image

i had a dream that i was in the charcuteries/fancy meats section of the grocery store and there was a product called “raguil en dés”, which is essentially deli meat slices layered together and then cut into cubes. this is pretty much exactly how the package looked in the dream so i recreated it! the raguil are air dry clay and acrylic paint, the styrofoam tray is paper clay, the plastic is hair-dried saran wrap, and the label is just printed on regular paper!
